  • Avian Summer features a variety of migratory birds that fly thousands of kilometers from their southern wintering grounds to Southern Alberta every spring. In the short weeks that follow they need to find a mate and successfully raise the next generation, before migrating south to their wintering grounds again in the fall. This annual journey provides a unique spectacle as millions of birds such as cavity nesters (Mountain Bluebirds and Swallows), Shorebirds (Killdeer, American Avocets, Black-necked Stilts, White-faced Ibis), Raptors (Swainson's and Ferruginous Hawks, Peregrine Falcons, Golden Eagles), Snow Geese, Trumpeter Swans and Sandhill Cranes complete this exhausting annual journey. Southern Albertans are fortunate to be in a position where they can witness this migration. But through this video, viewers can share this experience regardless of where in the world they live. Please enjoy.
