Dornier Do24

Historical footage of Dornier Do24 flying boats. The D-ADLP is a Do24K wich was build for the dutch navy this aircraft was to become the X-1 one of the Do24's which escaped to Australia when Japanese forces invaded the dutch indies. When arrived at Roebuck Bay , Broome , Australia the where sudenly attacked by japanese aircraft ( broome raid 03-03-1942) The X-1 was destroyed. Very stable plane. One of the most beautiful flying boats! Designed according to specifications of the Royal Netherlands Navy for use in the Dutch East Indies. It is a pity that not a single flying example is left.

Hello Frank , it is a very beautifull flyingboat indeed. I designed a radio controlled scale model in 1/10th scale. The prototype is currently being build in the U.S. Later this year i will start building my own model. The sea-trials will most likely be done on the Oostvoornse-meer.
One small correction on your reply : there is in fact still one flying example left. The Do24 Att owned by Iren Dornier. It is concept plane build by Dornier in the early 80s. It has a new wing and three turboprop engines. It aslo has a landing gear so it can operate from both land and water. The hull of this plane is from an original Do24 that was used by the Spanish SAR. The plane from wich this hull was used from was build during WWII by Aviolanda in Papendrecht during the German occupation. A number of Do24T flyingboats were givin to spain during the war so that Germany could benifit from spains neutral status.

Franky46Boy Natuurlijk kan dat. Ik vlieg er ook regelmatig met mijn Short S23 empire vliegboot. Ik ga dan naar slag bergeend. Stuur even een email naar [e-mail] zodat ik je kan benaderen mocht ik gaan vliegen. Erg gaaf dat je broer op cats en mariners heeft gevlogen , zijn hier nog foto's van?
