  • Sony has announced the ‪@PlayStation‬ 5 shortage is finally over after a little over 2 years since launch. The questions now is should you get a playstation 5 if you've been on the fence or if you're like me and mainly play on PC? Let me know what you think about the current state of the playstation 5 and if the exclusives are enough to sway you into getting one right now.
*Amazon still has you request to get one so I'm not sure how much longer that will be the case.

As mainly a PC gamer, I don’t see enough people mention the big differentiator for PS5 or any console being the convenience. The one-button and go ability of consoles, especially the current gen, is utterly unmatched when looking at a PC. If you want raw unlocked performance, PC. If you want a no frills couch convenient experience, console. It’s that simple.

Cost is a big factor too. For an extra $100 my CPU and heatsink upgrade into my AM4 could have been the PS5 disc drive version. I am strongly considering a PS5 if these new releases stay as poorly optimized on PC as they have been. My 5700 XT is at best on par with a PS5 and I'd have to spend PS5 AND XSX pricing to get a 4070 ti.

@Konk89 As both a PC and PS5 player it's extremely difficult dropping all the way down to a measly 60FPS. A PS5 is nice to have, but don't ever think your missing out on much. PC will alway's reign supreme. I'm soooo used to high FPS on my PC now that 60FPS feels sooooo sluggish.

Price is a big factor between consoles and a PC. I may have to spend > 3x of PS5 to get a decent PC which can run all games at 60 FPS, 1440p. I have a gaming laptop which I bought 3 years ago and it cost me $1100 and now it barely runs 60 FPS of previous year's games with medium - high settings. Also, sometimes games on PC are choppy for whatever reasons. However, price of games and mods makes PC gaming a compelling contender.

No disrespect meant, honestly sir but the stand is required for PS5. You're blocking the air vents at the bottom from dispersing the heat from the console. You may be having issues but you will. Sony states right in the instructions that the stand is required or malfunction can occur.

Honestly, with how popular consoles are, most developers will probably optimize their ray tracing around these consoles. Since the PS5 is basically a PC using no unique architecture I imagine console optimization will translate to PC. These machines will stay relevant probably for the next 5 or 6 years.

Dude the PS5 has a unique power management and has custom hardware for SSD I/O. It has built in hardware for decompression which leads to pretty much instant decompression and transfer of game data to RAM. Also, PCs do not have unified memory unlike consoles. The consoles are similar but not exactly like PCs. Sony and MS has done a lot of customisations to remove common bottlenecks that happen during gaming.

  • @LookItIsHope

The PS5 for me was really under consideration at one point in time, but it was so hard to obtain for so long, I just built a gaming pc instead. I had already done a little pc gaming before that point (had a gaming laptop) & I was interested in pc gaming before the PS5 showed up, but those stock issues is when I sealed the deal for good.
Now my pc library is massive in comparison to my console libraries & I have a gaming laptop (that I got for cheap) & a Steam Deck that all sync with each other, it's hard to consider anything but pc gaming at this point.
Still, I'll admit I get the urges of wanting a PS5. I grew up with the Sony consoles after all (& Nintendo too). I was a console player for a majority of the time I called gaming my hobby, so the thought comes to mind from time to time. I still consider pc gaming the best for me, but man, sometimes the urge is strong for the PS5. Won't give in on that thought tho. I'll be patient for PS5 ports making their way to PC, even if they tend to take years.

In my country you have to spend all east 900us for a ps5 while an rx6800xt which is atleast twice as fast (probably even more than that due to clock speeds) cost from 500 to 600. If you already have a pc with a pretty wide library of games I think you are better of upgrading cpu and gpu for a little bit more than the ps5. Sony marketing gave you the first game as a sampler, then said if you want the improved sequel, you have to join the club and buy a PS5. That is Playstation. Finely crafted exclusive games for members of the club. The model works because game quality and innovation are preserved for consumers willing to pay for quality.
Xbox is going the opposite direction. Consumers don't want to pay for the games and the quality is dropping. MS will eventually drop the consoles and stream budget games via a Game Pass app on every device to 2 million noob casuals on TV, PC and mobile phone.

The problem with PC gaming (for me) is that it's almost all entirely digital now, usually on Steam. You don't really have control over a digital piece of media, you don't have something you can preserve and/or sell on etc. On the other hand where PC shines is in oddball, quirky hit indie titles (like Phasmophobia, Grounded, The System Shock remake etc) or the amazing modding community that can do wild things not possible on console e.g making Alien Isolation run in VR etc. It's great for things like that or very cheap deals but for my bigger AAA purchases I usually go for the PS5 now. My Steam library literally cost thousands and yet I don't really own any part of it...

Most things have gone digital and I don’t think that’s a bad thing. The big sales you get on PC are great but you can’t trade them in. In my country I was able to get my PS5, plus charging dock and extra controller for cheaper than upgrading to a decent GPU and RAM. That means I could play AAA games without needing to sell my soul and get a current gen GPU. Also the way those PC ports are, at launch, you have to wait even longer for them to be in a decently playable state. TLoU is an excellent recent example of thise.

Wireless Dualsense (need a wire for PC for full functions), it just works, and games (especially Sony 1st party) can rival the looks of games on my high-end PC. Plus-, there is something nice about still owning physical games. You don't need to worry about lost licenses or a storefront deciding what you need to still be active on your PC etc.

Sure, I wish exclusives weren't a thing, but these businesses have to compete somehow, and Sony has grown custom to the fact they develop outstanding original story based games like God Of War, Horizon, Ghost of Tsushima, Spiderman, TLoU, Uncharted etc. Sure, I get that some are releasing on PC and you could just wait, but I think that is very much down to preference, and if you have the money to spare and you're an avid gamer, then it's a no brainer.

Going the PS3 route and just releasing cheaper redesigns seems like that best thing to do.

While not exclusive anymore, Ghostwire Tokyo also has pretty good use of the PS5 controller. Demon's Souls is not too bad either. Gran Turismo 7 is supposed to be pretty good, but I am not a car person. I would say that right now, Sony's exclusive portfolio is bigger than what Xbox has. Microsoft might have 25 studios due to the acquisitions, but how many of these studios have games out that ACTUALLY show off what the Xbox can do? Not too many. Maybe in 2025 or 2026, when some of these studios bare fruit, then things will change. As of right now in the console space, PS5 leads the way.

    Now I have 2 options:
    1. use the high-end PC on both the bedroom TV and the desk monitor
    2. Use the PS5 for couch gaming (bed gaming) and the PC only for desk gaming?
To use the PC even on the big TV I would always connect a 5 meter (16.40 ft) long HDMI whenever I want to play. The PC is on the desk but since the TV is in the same room with a long HDMI I can connect the PC to it.
On the one hand I like the plug and play idea of PS5 on the TV and not having to connect the HDMI to the TV every time. On the other hand, I would hate to have an RTX 3090 and not use it, to play with the lower performance of a PS5. Exclusives don't matter much because sooner or later almost all of them come out on PC and I don't mind waiting, I always have something to play. Great and unbiased video but I'm sticking with the new GPU I think. The only exclusive games that really excite me are FF7 episode 2 and Bloodborne. I use to have a ps4 for the latter but it broke. Heard the ps5 has better load times for it but man nothing else interests me so the only other appeal for console is the shoddy state of pc ports lately.
Its just something I cope with, considering fixes usually come, but waiting sucks. I just can't imagine playing strategy games or old classics like Baldurs Gate on a console. The variety and options of pc plus emulation is what draws me and then there's modding.
Still sucks that I gotta wait two years for FF7:Rebirtth and FF16, the closest I'll ever get to Bloodborne on pc is Lies of P until ps5 emulation comes along but that front isn't looking too good right now but its a matter of time...probably 7-10 years.
tl; dr I begrudgingly prefer pc

I'm decently rich now compared to years ago when I was poor asf so I care for aesthetics. Digital symmetry makes me feel better. There's a ton of factors for why I went discless. It's the best option, for me. I've spent £116 for 8 games which is really good. Some games were cheaper than on disc for Valentines. I love it.

i've tested loading times against a pc with the latest parts and my ps5 beats the pc loading time by at least 10 seconds and the processing speed of the ps5 is actually insane for a console that's worth 500, is it worth it? most definitely i own one and i can tell you i played the newest re4 remake and the game plays really fucking well and ive never had issues with loading or booting up console, mind you it also has the resume where you left feature where it can be turned off and when you turn it back on it allows you to continue the game where you left off, and even changing between games is faster than pc literally by the press of 2 buttons instead of having to close the game manually inside the main menu like on pc unless you force close, but performing wise the ps5 matches up there to a pc in my opinion because it gvives you the fraction of a what a pc cost but it also gives you the most out of your money, you'll never have issues unless it's with game bug issues and at that point it's up to the developer of the game to fix the bugs, other than that if you're looking into buying the ps5 do it because we also have a bunch of games in the ps catalog you can play games like jak and daxter, all the resident evil games, all god of war games, it's endless fun and nostalgia and ps has better discounts than pc i saw that call of duty was slightly cheaper on ps5 than pc when it was on sale

It's absolutely worth it I just got one last week and had no issue in store as well and yes the disc edition. Idk see how ppl are still complaining that they can't find one I have found one in stock in every major store in my area. Yeah I get they were impossible last year but that's not the case anymore and I'm a pc no more I love my ps5 it's amazing better than xbox's console by far and nontendo isn't even in the discussion. My 6 year old that I have full time I got him a new oled switch and he hasn't played it for more than literally 15 min. Once he saw the ps5 he won't play his nintendo which kinds pisses me off I just spent over $500+ on his oled and wireless controller, and a few more games he had the switch lite already so he had some games and he played it all the time and he looks at the oled then my ps5 and literally everyday "dad can I play spiderman, or spiderman miles plus I did the year of ps premium so his oled is just a fucking dust collector on the tv stand. Also I don't have a ton of issues with games at all but I also bought a tv specifically for the ps5 and it looks amazing on any game I play

Really considering buying PS5. I have a 5-year-old gaming notebook with a gtx1060 that has served me well but has recently started showing signs of slowing down. Many of the newer higher end games I have played recently have had a ton of stuttering issues. It makes the games unplayable for me. I spent $1500 on this laptop, so I think it's kind of ridiculous that its already out of performance requirements for spending so much money. Whereas a console will have the same lifespan or even longer until a new gen console releases, and it's only $500(for me in my area). Plus, GOW is a must for me. And I don't want to wait 2 years for a port. I think I'm sold on buying this console. Also, I love using a keyboard and mouse with certain games, as I'm sure so many of you do as well. My friend told me that PS5 has keyboard and mouse support for certain games. Hopefully, this catches on more and becomes more popular with future releases.

Now that PlayStation games are making their way to PC, I have little to no reason to actually pick up a PS5 except for my use with my TV. I have a desk on the opposite wall of my bed and it has my PC setup on top. With my TV, it's on a table/shelf at the end of my bed. If I want to lay in my bed at the end of the day and play some games before I got to sleep I have 4 options. I can either plug my laptop into my tv and use Steam big picture mode, Get a long HDMI cable that I can plug into my desktop and into my TV, Buy a PS5 or Xbox and use that as a secondary system to my PC for use on my TV, or just use my Nintendo Switch when I want to lay in bed. The problem with getting a PS5 or Xbox is that most games don't have cross-save from PC to console. I might just stick with using my Nintendo Switch in bed with my TV because it has a lot of casual cozy games that are perfect to play while laying in my bed. Also getting a long HDMI cable that I can stretch from my PC to my TV might not be a bad idea.
