I saw this same painting on another channel today and tried to do it the same way. Yours was easier to follow and I painted my own version. My trees look great, but my moon and reflection look like a squirrel ran amok with a paintbrush.
A squirrel run amok is not a bad way to start! :D It's great if your trees look good! With practice you'll get the hang of it!
I’m in the process of painting this. First time trying to paint. Struggled with the moon, too dark/too light, going over and over it in layers. Ended up accidentally going outside the circle, so had to make the moon larger, kinda looks like the moon in that Jim Carey film when he makes the moon huge lol. I’m really enjoying it though. Thank you. You have a new subscriber in me!
Thank you so much! :) I remember that movie, I love it! :D Mixing out the different tones of the moon may not be the easiest at first, but you can get the hang of it quickly. Keep it up!
Yay! I’ve finished the painting. I’ve impressed myself. Obviously not as good as yours, but I’m really happy with it. I’ve got the bug, now on to the next one. 😊
@Rhubarbandcustard when I
paint the moon I use a coffee lid, vitamin cap or bottled water cap, depending on how big my moon is. I take a white chalk pencil or white paint pen and trace around the cap or lid. Then I'm ready to paint the moon 🖌 🎨 🖼 🙂

You mean there's too much brown in the moon?
You can vary, there's nothing wrong with it if it's too brown for someone. You can do it with just black and white, it's easier, because then you don't have to deal with the colours, just the different shades of grey.

As a artist too I find going back and forth too much is not helping
You have to blend but finish with even left to right strokes

You see, sometimes that's enough. And when I need to, I use up and down movements to paint a more beautiful transition on the background.
These videos are mainly for beginners, so it's not worth overcomplicating the process. The ones I paint on commission and for my own pleasure you won't find here, only on Instagram, Facebook and now some of them as videos on Patreon.

You free handed the circle! Cool. How’d you get good at it?
I just reinforced the lines with my free hand, but otherwise I drew it with a compass, that's why it's so precise.
I could have done it freehand, but it's faster.
Anyway, I also draw regularly, so maybe that's why I could do it freehand.

Yes, you can paint this with oil paint, but be aware that oil dries much slower and will probably take more days to paint with drying times.
