  • Hello gardeners! In this video our lead Grower Kevin Stephens gives tips on how to keep your potted Agave healthy and how to fix common overgrowth issues. Some Agave are very fast growers and can become root bound within a year, while others produce a lot of offsets, and some grow so slow they may sit in the same pot for years, but all of them benefit from a regular repotting and root maintenance. Agave produce new roots continuously from the stem tissue. Old roots die and eventually produce dense matts that cause the soil to compact and degrade in quality. Some root bounding is normal and does not affect the health of the plant, but if no new white roots are present through the soil column, then it is time to repot. We strongly recommend growing Agave and other succulents in unglazed clay pots to prevent root rot and other issues.
