No, one symbol can have more than one meaning. Kareshi doesn't only mean boyfriend, it can also have another meaning. I think that is what he/she is trying to say.

I see where you're getting it from, it does sound like they are saying kareshi, very much like it, but they still say palesu. They laugh because of how much it does sound like kareshi. I never said it didn't sound like that is what they are saying.
I don't think PAleSU starts with a KA and ends with a SHI. Actually, it's so easy to tell that it's KARESHI. It completely says Kareshi in the musical. Of course if you look up the song ITSELF that's a different story cause not all people think it's kareshi, but it is. It's funny cause they misread it for boyfriend. Maybe because the characters are similar. But they never said palesu at all.
