It's not a second drummer, It's a percussionist. I've met lot of bands that include this instrument to complement the drum.

He doesnt need a second drummer because his ability to play has gone down. They use the second drummer to get more depth in the sound for a live show.
That's just a percussionist ;v nothing new to any live band.
You'll notice the second drummer isn't playing at ALL what roger is playing. He's just a percussionist, Fleetwood Mac as one too, many bands do now.
