His channel is called Linus "Tech" Tips for a reason, idk why people assume he must be smart about absolutely everything else.
Linus actually has some pretty sus takes on tech aside from just reporting, too.
@@Eval999 which ones u mean? :x
@@Eval999 for example? Anything of substance aside from loose predictions?
@@ejsafara456 I'm not sure exactly what they're referring to either.
@@Eval999 like what
Why did he say there’s nothing they could do to challenge his workers unionizing in Canada? Every big company here just fires people when they talk about it lmao.
That’s technically illegal and can get you into a lot of trouble if proven.
@@MERCENARYTAO1 yeah those last two words are the key part. Prove it. If a company wants to paper you out the door they can easily do it.
They still have to have a cause though dont they? I feel like they need a large paper trail or proof of your wrongdoings to warrant firing you.
@@MichealWalls I’m not arguing about the idea that you can fire people. But you do need a reason and probably have to justify it. That’s all I’m saying.
I’m not Canadian and where I’m from you can get fired just for not smiling one day or something stupid, there are absolutely no protections.
Also wth does your age compared to destiny have any relevance? Like what am I supposed to do with this info? Congrats I guess…
@@MichealWalls cool
Reminds me of the Joshua 4 Congress "all landlords are bad. Except for mine she's just trying to make a living" take
that is the most cucked thing ever lol
As someone who watches a lot of the Linus podcasts and stuff, he's still a pretty staunch capitalist. I think you'd both actually agree on 90% of things.
Edit: I don't use Twitter so I don't know what dumb shit he says there.
Exactly. He’s just a shitposter that happens to be knowledgeable on tech
Linus is an early example the next evolution of corporate nuspeak: your comrade corporate socialist boss who you'll never get a raise from, wants to be able to fire you more easily and thinks you forming a union would be a terrible mistake.
Linus pays his employees extremely well, provides them with as much time off as they need etc
@@WookieWarriorz Fair enough, and I can accept that L on that if it is the case. However, if all you're saying is true then forming a union shouldn't be an issue. If you have unabashedly socialist politics, you should have nothing to fear from your workers having a collective bargaining organization under you.
@@Condeycon he inherently loses some creative control over a company he put his everything into, if they unionize.
@@brendan981 Of course he does. Every capitalist looses power of their company in their workers unionize. However, if Linus is a Socialist then the protection, representation, and equitable sharing of capital with labour should be more important, right?
@@brendan981 He's a Socialist, so he shouldn't believe he put his everything into that business because that's a right wing belief. It's okay to admit he's just a grifter.
I hate when financially illiterate people talk about finance. Its hilarious to me that Destiny admittedly only reads wiki articles and still knows more that 99% of the brainlets on youtube/twitter.
Linus actually sounds more like a libertarian than a socialist. These are stances Ron Paul, John McAfee, and Peter Schiff would all agree with.
You can call it populism, but don't call it socialism.
"If my employees feel like they need to unionize then ive failed them" is there something wrong with that?
I think what is wrong is that you put the worker in an uncomfortable situation. There is an uneven relationship between the worker and the employer and you don’t know if you are going to get fired or something bad is going to happen if you complain to your boss. Much better if you have a third party who can speak on your behalf and make sure all the employees get treated right.
The point he missed in his statement was that most managers don’t seem to care about whether it’s a better place to work. Most manager’s invoke change because it improves the bottom line and therefore their profits.
My workplace doesn’t care about it being a better place to work for the staff, it’s about how they can get people to take more responsibility for the same pay by restructuring small things over time to be more financially efficient.
Famous last words.
wait, some social media influencer has terrible opinions? color me surprised
BAZED 1:31
Can we please just seperate someone being wrong on a nuanced topic, from being dumb/evil/careless etc.? Linus is a good guy, a very decent human being, can we please treat each other with respect even when someone says something wrong and doesn't back down? This online discurse has turned so toxic...
He's a dumb decent guy
I'm sure he's a nice guy. But it is pretty stupid to comment on a public forum about things he clearly knows nothing about. He's free to do it, but you can't blame people for calling him dumb.
@mind games Nah you don't say someone is on the spectrum just because of things like that. I would say mild sociopathic tendencies. It's not really relevant though, we are not his psychiatrists, are we? Destiny's job is internet debate and discussions, the less charitable and more toxic he is, the more clickable are his videos. With Hasan it's the same, inflated ego, inflammatory commentary. These are influencers first and foremost, after all.
We can I am just wondering why people are wanting to debate tax policy without understanding tax policy honestly. Stop focusing on random schizo posters who think Linus is evil or Destiny is evil or whatever lol. But I assume Linus is just memeing since he runs a successful business I'll give him the charity of knowing the actual policy for himself due to that.
@@MrMokey24 you are way too emotional affected by certain words
The very first thing he said about HR is that they have a 3rd party HR firm that they use. If it's something that can't be brought up to Linus or Yvonne (his business partner, 51/49 split), then they have that 3rd party firm. It's a really crucial thing to have missed. I can't speak for everyone, but the positions I am aware of, are all full time, employee positions. None of this "independent contractor" bullshit. They all have full health benefits, and severance pay is mandatory in Canada. Linus is correct, in that it can be quite difficult to fire people, regardless of a union.
His take from a US perspective would be stupid as fuck, BUT from a Canadian, it's fine.
Also, his employees are buying houses in Vancouver. So, take that for what it's worth.
I think it’s a fair thing to point out the level of exploration that goes on with workers and consumers from the business owners. If everyone agreed on it then of course it’d be the same as saying you’re against poverty.
However a portion of liberals and practically all conservatives/libertarians outright deny it or say it’s their right and then blame the consumer for paying.
Because it's a useless take that means nothing. You need to point out specific instances, and then justify why they're exploitation for it to mean anything. It's like saying rape or murder is bad. Of course it is, but you can't do anything with that take.
@@attackmaster519 that’s my point we don’t all agree that businesses are or even can exploit their workers as well as consumers. If we had a reasonable consensus then that’d be true.
@@TomBomba We don't all agree, because leftists tend to be really bad about pointing out actual issues in society. It feels like you're putting the cart before the horse here.
@@attackmaster519 if we don’t all agree then my point stands it’s not equivalent to saying murders bad because a significant portion disagrees. What random leftists say or do has no relevance to my point.
@@TomBomba We do all agree. I'd like you to find any significant portion of the population that believes worker exploitation isn't real. What right wingers take issue with is the fact that leftists only say stupid shit like that, but then never anything else. It's usueless to spout obvious information. You need to provide proof, and narrow your points down.
0:16 Linus either thinks workers lay eggs or hens get paid

I don’t know how this is a gotcha, Canada does protect their workers way better than the US
When did Linus become a quasi leftist? Wasn't he dissing on Hasan when he built his computer?
no reason not to, it doesnt cost anything and you dont have to change any of your behaviour
He's always been pretty far left but now he's a media giant and leftism is a money maker. Why wouldn't he? It's a win-win.
His stance on the government inflating currency and bailing out big corporations sounds more like libertarian than socialist to me. Isn't this something Ron Paul, John Mcafee, and Peter Schiff would all agree with?
@@eugkra33 most political ideologies overlap somewhere. There's also a dichotomy between libertarian and authoritarian socialists.
When he realized that being a leftist is an easy way to grift and make money

I commented on Twitter about Linus Tech Tips voice a while back and how its funny to me that a lot of Lefty’s talk like him. some people called me transphobic because, apparently they thought Linus was trans…I wasn’t that familiar with who he was at the time so I thought damn, maybe I fucked up. Turns out, he’s not trans lol. I hope that person was memeing.

@@MichealWalls nah that would be shitty
This was the dumbest reaction ever. Linus is dumb on twitter but he didn’t say anything to bad in this video. Don’t hate for no reason
Destiny didn't react or say anything that warrants a comment like this?? Was this intended for his viewers?
You completely missed the point.
@@Korubiiii he was laughing at the video and calling linus a capitalist
@@cowyeti21 pretty sure the entire point of Destiny laughing at him was specifically because he poses as a lefty socialist on social media, but the moment it starts to affect his business and income he starts sounding like a staunch capitalist.
I'm capable of both admiring Linus and making fun of his shit politics on twitter.
Inflation is a tool that corporations use for theft is a socialist take. No, that is the most standard libertarian take. Did Destiny forget about all the views he had as a libertarian?
Linus needs to stop with the political and stick to tech stuff. Get your socialism out my tech please.
I think its fine. Its properly segregated from his tech tips channel. even if his takes are shallow
It would be good for linus to be correct, but I would never make an ought to statement. If linus isn’t a business owner, another capitalist would replace him. So it doesn’t matter if he does anything socialist… I think
Nice Vaush meme
Sounds like the same excuse the U.S. south used in the 1700 - 1800s while purchasing slaves. "If I don't buy this negro, then someone else will, and they'll be more efficient in their market output". If you think uneven capital ownership is wrong, then it shouldn't matter that the guy tweets out some takes you agree with while he does something vile.
.
Follow that to its logical conclusion.
You might as well kill someone, cuz if you didn’t, someone else might.
This video is pretty cringe. Maybe I'm missing some context, but the cited tweets from Linus aren't that "socialist" or even that incorrect. You can talk to any economics 101 professor and they'll tell you that the benefit of inflation in a macro-economy is that it drives consumption since your dollar is worth more today than it will be tomorrow. That creates incentive to loan capital (rather than sitting on it while it depreciates) which benefits borrowers who get better pricing in interest. Too much inflation creates a horde of different problems, but that's a different story and too much is different than *some*. Linus isn't even really incorrect, your savings account is effectively being eroded in buying power in order to benefit borrowers.
Unsubscribed from anything Linus-related when he made the PC for Hasan
lmao
How am I, a non socialist, more socialist than an actual socialist?
Cause you're on Twitter memeing away 140 characters not at a voting booth my dude.

Linus almost definitely has everyone working as a contractor and not employees. It'd be a pretty inefficient way to organize a content farm.
Um, the information on that is public. They are employees. About 70 full time as of late last year.
