Thank you for this video! I have a Roland Sound Canvas SC55 module from the early '90s that had some very inconsistent buttons. I tried using a tiny bit of Deoxit D5 contact cleaner and pressing the button with my finger repeatedly and it seemed to help but not much. After watching this video I saw that probably a lot more contact cleaner was needed to really flush it out and a harder object to press the button would likely help to give it enough pressure to clean the contact inside. There isn't enough room on the PCB to do the pen trick, so I just used a paper towel to absorb the overflow and doused each tact switch with Deoxit and then pressed it several dozen times with the plastic handle of a tiny screwdriver. This made a HUGE difference! The buttons are now working like new! When I got this unit the outside button caps were damaged and I fixed them, but when they weren't reliable I thought for sure I would have to replace these tact switches too. I'm so relieved that a good cleaning is all that was needed. Thank you again!
Hello & thanks so much for making this video! I just fixed all the buttons on my Roland Rhodes MK-80 - cleaning went very fast and all the buttons are working like new again. This is the best method for cleaning tactile switches I've found on the web. cheers!
It's even cheaper if you buy new switches from sites that sell electronic components. These switches are regular tactile switches they cost like 2 cent a piece. I've used them in my Juno 106 and they work like a charm. Desolder the old ones and install the new ones. The entire fix should cost like 1 euro. Don't get these components from people who label them as "Yamaha switches" bla bla. You'll get scammed by them by paying like 5 euro for a component that costs 2 euro. Fucking sick dude if you ask me.
Thanks! I used this method to fix the tactile switch on my 5 year old electric toothbrush. Works great now! I didn't have contact cleaner but just used methylated spirits aka denatured alcohol.
どうもありがとうございました! Thank you!! Using this method and "inox mx3" as the contact spray, I have repaired not only my DX7ii FD , but also my Korg EX-800 and my Korg DDD-1.
Has the repair held up, or did the switches start giving you trouble again? I’m about to try this on my DX7II, and I’ll use the inox if it worked for you.
I tried this with my DX7IIFD, and it kind of worked. There were 13 intermittent and one dead switch. The cleaning restored 7 of them and brought the dead one up to intermittent. Time-wise, it would take about the same time to replace them. Rather than try again (soaking them longer, I suppose), and hoping it works, I’m just going to replace them.
Thank's!!! I don't have this contact cleaner but I tried using isopropyl alcohol instead, just like you did. And it works great! Domo arigatou gazaimashita!

@@MIDERA It's a pain in the ass to open the DX7II FD. I wish it was more easier like a Juno 106. But this fix isn't the best, these tactile switches are dirt cheap they cost like 2 cent a piece. This costs too much money and time. It's just a simple tactile switch which costs like 2 cents. Just buy it, desolder the old one and solder in the new one. I've replaced all the tactile switches on my Juno 106, quick and easy.
@@Rotaks Soldering trough hole is easy especially on these old boards. The chance ruining this button with the method displayed in the video is pretty huge. These buttons cost nothing. I've placed them all on my Juno 106 and my DX7II. Saying soldering is hard is a stupid statement. Even a 8 year old kid can solder.
I used denatured alcohol aka methylated spirits. I think penetrating oil is a lubricant, whereas you want something that's a solvent that cleans and evaporates away after.
Holy moly I just did this to my D-10, works perfect! I didn't use the tube, just spray enough and work the switches 20 times. So happy :D

that push switch is a always noise click click click..
not good...
