Friday on Netflix check out action movie "Kate" starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Woody Harrelson and Band-Maid will make an appearance and 2 songs will be in the film. one of them is Blooming :)

A lot of people say some of their songs would be great for an anime (and of course they would) but part of their identity is positive and uplifting music. I'm over 60 and really into prog, hard core jazz, and anything weird (Sonic Youth, PIL, Besnard Lakes) - and never thought I'd love (and I do mean LOVE) a band with so many uplifting songs with catchy choruses. There's something about these ladies though where you put all of your musical prejudices aside at some point and just bask in the "Glory" that is Band-Maid. Totally addicted, totally don't care who knows that my favorite active band is comprised of 5 Japanese ladies in maid outfits. And you're right, they don't "need" the outfits, but they're underappreciated as it is, and let's face it, it adds even more personality to a band that is already teeming with likeable qualities. The more you get to know them and their music, the more they'll impact your life by just making you smile every day.
You shouldn't care. I don't believe in Guilty Pleasures, if you like it, you like it. No Guilt, Just Pleasure. I think it's because the band do have the quirky, slightly weird sound. They also mix genres in the way different from many bands. In some songs each instrument brings in different element(s) which shouldn't work together yet it just adds extra layers of colors to their songs rather than just randomly mushing up. That's how it feels to me.
@@lurkmerchant That is so cool. I love a band that can be really flexible, and versatile. Not afraid to step out of the genre they are in. That is what makes Tool such a good band. They are their own subgenre. I feel like every BAND-MAID song I have heard so far could have been from a completely different band. Besides the fact that you would recognize the singers voice, but even so, I find she has enough versatility in her voice, that I would mistake her for a different singer. Especially not being able to understand Japanese, to pick up on ways she might say a word that is very specific to her.

Oh, about the "gimmick," Heather: Miku, and later the whole band, wanted to show that cute "Kawaii" girls (dressed as maids in high heels while having fun and smiling without even breaking a sweat) could rock as hard as any guy band (sweating all over their so called, hip street / grunge clothes and making it look like what they're doing -- their "art" -- is so painful and hard)... and by showing that contrast (they call it the "Gap"), it would generate interest, which it so successfully has done! The Gap is all about women empowerment. Now they show up as Maids for all band business and interviews, etc. and have created a long-lasting, unmistakable, visual band brand. Very cleaver, Miku. Your diabolical plan for world domination is working all too well. Of course, none of this would work if their music and stage performance wasn't at such a remarkably high level. They are considered by many as the best hard rock band in the world - maid outfits and all!

There isn't one of you who do not represent a deep love for this band. I really hope BAND-MAID has seen some of the comments that the Maidiacs have left on videos. If I was in that band, I would be so moved by the dedication.
Not the other 2 Band-Maid songs. Didn't find they made me think of anime. This one did, a lot. I am a big Gackt fan, I don't find most of his stuff sounds like it should be in anime. Except for Redemption and Another World. Honestly, I know Maximum The Hormone's song Zetsubou Billy is in an anime, and I don't think any of their music sounds like it should be in anime. We watch a lot of anime on this ship, and we used to be Fan Subbers back in the day, you get used to that format. It's for TV so it has to be quick to start, energetic, with little interlude between the chorus and verse, and fit a certain length. This song just checked all the boxes for us.
I watch it on Crunchyroll. Funimation might have it. Both are owned by Sony. The story’s beginning premise is a classroom of high schoolers are all destroyed in one kablooie. The main character is reincarnated as a spider in a game world environment. There’s lots of pop culture references and breaks the fourth wall often.

My mind was also heavily programmed to think anime songs are stereotype J-Rock or J-Pop... but actually it's partly because the songs are edited into short version. I don't want it to happen to Blooming! It's the ultimate mix of disco, rap, funk, pop, rock, punk... hook-overload song that makes me feel so good! But yeah, it's very, very catchy for sure. 😄
Definitely check out Different for their anime opening song. It's one of my favorites from them. I think they had another song that was an outro for one of the Fate series.

Just to say- the maid thing is NOT a gimmick- not in that sense- and never was. It was to contrast against their hard rock sound, and prove cute girls could do rock not just masculine guys in leather and chains. And also to give them a strong image. So its not a gimmick any more than alice cooper or any other rock or metal guy/band is for having a specific 'look' on stage that sells the bands message and what they are about. They are not gonna say we dont need to dress like maids and drop it- they could always play great and know it. The look is a challange- to anyone who has a preconcieved notion of what a hard rock group has to look like- it says we look like THIS- and we ROCK- can you pretend we dont just because of our dressess?
I felt that from the start, right from watching the first video, once I realized how kick ass they were. I knew it was a confidence trick. Look like the J-POP cute band they expect, and then make heads explode. I can see why they would do it for the shock factor as well. Look at them, pretty yes, but SUPER CUTE!! The entire band. That does not make it any easier to get respect from in a genre that is male driven. So why not dial that up to 11 as well. Make them all expect one thing, and get something completely different.
I have thought about coloring my beard before. I asked people what they thought on Facebook. Everyone was in agreement "Don't you DARE!!" So I stuck with it. I can't remember what Wolfman Jack's beard looked like, a bit, there is a fuzzy memory there. So I am going to take a look. You are awesome. May the force be with you Lord Vader.
Now I see what you mean. It kind does that already, but it's more subtle. I am going for an appointment to have it trimmed/shaped on Sept 28th. The first time it will ever get properly shaped. The person doing it is amazing at shaping beards as well, so it should look quite good.

Thanks for mentioning to not over look the old stuff. I don't have a lot of frame of reference as to how old a song is. Having a few suggestions like this is great. Nemophila, we have done a reaction for, the other bands you mentioned I haven't yet. Someone has given me a list of a lot of Japanese bands, and pretty sure all of those were on them. Hopefully we can get to some of them. Still trying to figure out how to plan the J-Rock/Metal reactions so we are not doing too many videos for Thursdays, and getting overwhelmed.

@@CaptainFaceBeard well not all the old songs have video clips but freezer and shake that are great. You have to remember that this band puts out an album every year so there are a lot of new songs. Don't worry you could do nothing but BAND-MAID and you would be busy for a while with well over 100 songs plus instrumentals acoustic versions ( like the acoustic version of PUZZLE played straight after the regular version) the acoustic puzzle is done with another acoustic song Anemone and it's only Saiki and Kaname. Kaname has a beautiful voice. There's a list on Spotify that shows the most played BAND-MAID songs for Each month and the old songs more than hold there own with the new songs. The fan club that are the masters and mistresses can get you a link to anything so don't worry iff it's not on the BAND-MAID website. There's the BAND-MAID almost greatest hits part 1 and 2 and you can match the songs with the album they are from and ofcourse the album has it's own release date then just look at witch of those songs is easily available. They also have an alter ego called Band Maiko where they sing their songs in a different language and one of the songs is only available in Band Maiko. Then there are the interviews and Miku's magic spell time. They do a cover of an old Japanese song called Honey and I just love it but it's not easy to get. Yes, this song would be a good opening song for an anime, but it is not😞 They have two anime theme songs so far: Glory and Different. Another new song was just made for a new anime which will start in October!

I agree about the rant commissioned to write an anime song one thing but for all reactors saying this song would be great for an anime that's stereotyping and it's sad ever here shojo s this song started my journey listening to all female rock bands from Japan but to listen to it on the cd or the music video it's anything but it's rock and roll just like all of band maid I know they feel honored to have a song ( now 2) in a anime but their goal is to be recognized as one of the greatest band ever and they are
She is good for that kind of stuff. You are AWESOME Dave. We come from an Anime FanSubbing background, so she is very observant for those things.
My mind was also heavily programmed to think anime songs are stereotype J-Rock or J-Pop... but actually it's partly because the songs are edited into short version.
I don't want it to happen to Blooming! It's the ultimate mix of disco, rap, funk, pop, rock, punk... hook-overload song that makes me feel so good! But yeah, it's very, very catchy for sure. 😄
Definitely check out Different for their anime opening song. It's one of my favorites from them. I think they had another song that was an outro for one of the Fate series.

Just to say- the maid thing is NOT a gimmick- not in that sense- and never was. It was to contrast against their hard rock sound, and prove cute girls could do rock not just masculine guys in leather and chains. And also to give them a strong image.
So its not a gimmick any more than alice cooper or any other rock or metal guy/band is for having a specific 'look' on stage that sells the bands message and what they are about.
They are not gonna say we dont need to dress like maids and drop it- they could always play great and know it.
The look is a challange- to anyone who has a preconcieved notion of what a hard rock group has to look like- it says we look like THIS- and we ROCK- can you pretend we dont just because of our dressess?
I felt that from the start, right from watching the first video, once I realized how kick ass they were. I knew it was a confidence trick. Look like the J-POP cute band they expect, and then make heads explode. I can see why they would do it for the shock factor as well. Look at them, pretty yes, but SUPER CUTE!! The entire band. That does not make it any easier to get respect from in a genre that is male driven. So why not dial that up to 11 as well. Make them all expect one thing, and get something completely different.

I have thought about coloring my beard before. I asked people what they thought on Facebook. Everyone was in agreement "Don't you DARE!!" So I stuck with it. I can't remember what Wolfman Jack's beard looked like, a bit, there is a fuzzy memory there. So I am going to take a look. You are awesome. May the force be with you Lord Vader.
Now I see what you mean. It kind does that already, but it's more subtle. I am going for an appointment to have it trimmed/shaped on Sept 28th. The first time it will ever get properly shaped. The person doing it is amazing at shaping beards as well, so it should look quite good.

Don't be afraid to do the old stuff because it's all good. FREEZER, SHAKE THAT and the slightly more modern I Can't Live Without You. I assume that you have done Dice. It's most people's favourite. Since you are doing regular BAND-MAID I've subscribed. But don't overlook Brats (ms. Downer) MUTANT MONSTER ( No Way from the hong Kong rocks concert) and NEMOPHILA ( anything including covers) I see land a hoi .
Thanks for mentioning to not over look the old stuff. I don't have a lot of frame of reference as to how old a song is. Having a few suggestions like this is great. Nemophila, we have done a reaction for, the other bands you mentioned I haven't yet. Someone has given me a list of a lot of Japanese bands, and pretty sure all of those were on them. Hopefully we can get to some of them. Still trying to figure out how to plan the J-Rock/Metal reactions so we are not doing too many videos for Thursdays, and getting overwhelmed.

@@CaptainFaceBeard well not all the old songs have video clips but freezer and shake that are great. You have to remember that this band puts out an album every year so there are a lot of new songs. Don't worry you could do nothing but BAND-MAID and you would be busy for a while with well over 100 songs plus instrumentals acoustic versions ( like the acoustic version of PUZZLE played straight after the regular version) the acoustic puzzle is done with another acoustic song Anemone and it's only Saiki and Kaname. Kaname has a beautiful voice. There's a list on Spotify that shows the most played BAND-MAID songs for Each month and the old songs more than hold there own with the new songs. The fan club that are the masters and mistresses can get you a link to anything so don't worry iff it's not on the BAND-MAID website. There's the BAND-MAID almost greatest hits part 1 and 2 and you can match the songs with the album they are from and ofcourse the album has it's own release date then just look at witch of those songs is easily available. They also have an alter ego called Band Maiko where they sing their songs in a different language and one of the songs is only available in Band Maiko. Then there are the interviews and Miku's magic spell time. They do a cover of an old Japanese song called Honey and I just love it but it's not easy to get. For homework I want you to do every BAND-MAID song . Goodbye me Harty

@@starocean6013 It's all good. I knew some people wouldn't like the way I do stuff, cuz I am a bit odd. BUT that is me, and I have spent too much of my life changing it to suit other people. I actually started making these reactions to combat a terrible case of stage fright. If I made my reactions the same way as the better reactors, I would lose what makes me unique. Even if that thing that makes me unique is what some people don't like. Thanks for telling me, it's important to know these things. Good luck to you as well.
