I grafted Goldrush to a wild apple tree growing on a ditch bank here. It now bears annually. I don't pick it but leave it for the deer. Unfortunately for the deer the apples hang all year long over their heads. Hahaha.
My Goldrush a sad little tree. Maybe not enough sunlight due to being close to the forest. Good deer apple if it were on a large tree (MM111). Ripens in late late October or November in Mid-Michigan. I never tried storing it. It goes into the cider in October.
You didn't mention what rootstock this was grown on. That has much to do with how the tree sets. Do you irrigate with drip or sprinkler? I am thinking of growing Goldrush and your video is helping me to understand the apple more.
Great! I have a variety of stocks and the vid showed several. MM111, G41, M9. Similar growth on each. I use soaker hose on the tall spindle, but only when it’s dry.
i have been wanting to grow gold rush but the cedar apple rust susceptibility turns me away. i was able to keep my other trees free of it this year. i wanted to get some late October early November apples. i cant find this variety local to try a taste.
I understand that you are a small home orchard. What is your ground floor management program? I see a lot of green grass around the trees. Are you trying organic herbicides or tillage? I enjoy your vids and have subscribed to help. Thanks
Thanks! I herbicide around the tree bases a couple times each year. I use winter rye over the winter and terminate in late spring. It does a great job. Believe I have a vid on it.

So what are your favorite varieties for production, desease resistance, pest resistance, storage and taste?
Goldrush is without a doubt my favorite apple. I just need some scions!
It definitely was top choice for my customers this past season. And I agree. Just needs that loooong growing season.
Do you use Surround / kaolin clay spray for bug repellent?
They look wonderful.
I have had the problem with fire blight as well.
Not so much fireblight on Goldrush. Actually none in years now. Be diligent and cut it out
How old is that tree ?

Try this apple and it’s worth a couple well timed CAR sprays. Maybe try enterprise

What spray do you use for Cedar Apple Rust?
Rallly 40. Myclobutyanil works good. You can actually find that at Home Depot in Immunox.
