    Good morning , Jennifer!
I cannot thank you enough for your fashion feature today.
I worked in the fashion industry for over 25 years. We always placed “fashion first”.
    I am 72 years old.
At one time, the inaugural fashion traveled to the carriage trade department stores in the largest cities of America for all to view.
I can remember dying to open up my copy of WWD on the day after Inauguration Day. Kudos to you for your interpretation!
I was able to participate and buy fashion for the promotions. We supported both high end and moderate looks to celebrate.
One of my most cherished memories was when one of the six replica’s of Princess Diana’s Wedding Dress was sent to our store. Every department in the store featured items from Great Britain.
If one truly studies and is passionate about fashion, we focus on the look and grasp the direction. All aspects of our lives . . . literature, screen, social justice, sports, politics are influencers.
Also! My 12 year old granddaughter makes handbag charms! Last year, for my birthday, she made me a little beaded gecko.
With my bespoke gecko and my charming AirPod case ( also a gift ), I always receive compliments and feel kind of cool for a 72 year old. 😉 ( My “youngins” making me feel young!)
Bravo for great analysis and interpretation of handbags from Hermes to Walmart!
I appreciate your efforts to feature fashion trends and looks from all aspects of life.
    Love,
    Lynne

Usha Vance was absolutely stunning. She really does look so good in pink and their kids were all so cute! Melania always impeccable and gorgeous, her confidence and poise unparalleled. I can’t help but to wish you would have given a moment to Ivanka, I LOVED that Audrey Hepburn Sabrina inspired dress she wore to the ball! So gorgeous. As for the handbags, I’m a fan of a good tassel or silk scarf, but I definitely think too much is too much. Stuffy toys just strike me as tacky… super fun for kids or maybe specific fun events, but I’ll stick to the more understated and simple things.

Jennifer, we are so in sync in our thinking. I’m so glad you mentioned the First Lady’s inauguration outfits. I loved her hat. Had she been outside (it was moved last minute) the hat would have been perfect for winter sun or cold, but either way, she looked stunning and appropriate. Agree 100% re the two inappropriately dressed and about the Walmart knockoff…just get a tasteful leather bag if the original designer bag is financially not an option! (I’m not sure about the bag charms…I think it depends on how many and if they’re commensurate with the bag quality.) Such a fun video! More of these, please.😍

My dad always said no matter what you wear, what really matters is a beautiful, warm and sincere smile. And I think that wearing a hat that completely hides your eyes at a formal ceremony is quite rude,! Especially at a political/national occasion where everyone's eyes are on you, and where you are supposed to symbolise honesty, trust and transparency. Just look at previous and foreign first ladies, none of them, from what I've seen, hid their faces and eyes like this, even when wearing a hat. As for the white gown with the black zigzag, I found it rather "agressive" with all the dark pointed angles, and not really attractive, although definitely striking. All the money in the world cannot buy class.

Back in 2006 I bought a Birkin style purse for maybe $40. I just liked the clean style of it. I would never pay thousands for a bag, and I think that it's just good marketing that makes us feel like we want and desperately need something, especially when they make it so exclusive or tell us to hurry because it's selling out. It's also fantasy where we think that if we're carrying the same bag or wearing the same clothes as a celebrity or model, our lives will feel the same... like seeing a model in a flowing dress and thinking if I wear that dress, I'll feel and look carefree too. It's really the feeling that it evokes that we're after. I assure you that if I wear the exact same dress as Princess Catherine, it would not transform my lifestyle into hers. And, if I bought a Birkin, I'd actually feel worse because I'd be paying on it for a long time.... going into debt to look rich. It's crazy. I don't like the purse charms at all. Too cluttery for me. Maybe only one charm, but not metal for me, because when my bags have come with a metal dangling thing, I've knocked it into my car and probably chipped the paint. I'm all about travelling lighter, not adding more weight.

I live in the Washington DC area and have for many decades. The DC dress code is always very conservative and this 2025 inauguration featured slightly more conservative attire than usual. I think it is a little difficult to talk the inauguration without mentioning politics. The inauguration is after all a political event. The First Lady’s choices of attire at this event sends a conservative message however that’s nothing new in Washington so I don’t know if she really made a statement for those inside the beltway. Having said that , Melania wears her clothes so well and she always looks beautiful. I think she would look more beautiful if she softened her outfits. To me she often looks a little bit severe. The hat she wore was beautiful but it was a boater style. I thought to myself -Why? Nobody in Washington was going boating that day. The Potomac River was frozen so it seemed out of place .

    • @thekingsdaughter4233
      @thekingsdaughter4233 2 дня назад +2

It seems to me that outfit was a mirror image of something she wore to a state visit to Great Britain. That outfit was white with navy accents and a very similar hat (white with navy). But "boater hat"? I somehow picture those with a much narrower brim. 🤔

The bag trend is tacky. If you want to personalize something, have your clothing embroidered with your initials. Dua looked like the proverbial bag lady with her way-overpriced Birkin. Evidence, yet again, that money doesn’t buy stateliness. Sorry to disagree with you here, Jennifer! We rarely don’t see eye to eye. 😉

My thoughts on the Birkin and any other brand where it's obvious what brand it is a person is wearing, is that people pay a great deal of money to be a walking advertisement for a brand. I prefer for it not to be obvious where my clothes come from. It's more about how it looks on me and how it looks put together than where it's from. I do think Walmart was hilarious with their Walmart Birkin though. I've never liked knockoffs of brands. Even if it's cheap, my feeling about being a walking advertisement remains the same.

  • @AnnPorterfield

Whether you are actually buying something that is designer, or a knock off that looks designer, it is likely for the approval of others. To spend thousands and thousands of dollars on a purse is absurd. It is equally as absurd to buy a handbag so that others THINK you spent that kind of money. Most people cannot and should not be spending the kind of money on purses that these companies are charging. Even the Teddy Blake, for most women, is unaffordable. Buy what you love, but make sure you can afford it or that you wouldn't be better off donating your money to a good cause.

I have spent so much on items I thought were high quality, but they turned out to be just as flimsy as the “cheap stuff.” Are there certain types of leather, or certain ways of stitching/ tailoring that have been know to hold up better? How do you distinguish between better quality and mere price gauging?

    TheDailyConnoisseur - Jennifer,
I needed something to calm😔 my very unsettled nerves. Your videos always help me in someway. And today (...thankfully...) was no different.
"Keep Calm and Stay Classy," Jasmine. That's what I imagine you're saying to me. Therefore, I will absolutely do my very best to do that.
I really enjoy the contents of your videos. NOT just today, though your temperament re: positivity / lighthearted behavior was exactly what I happen to appreciate even more than usual.
Thank you for sharing some of your time with us, Jennifer.

I would never buy a "dupe" or a counterfeit bag. More often than not, the profits made by selling counterfeit goods fund terrorism. I completely agree that if you cannot or do not want to buy an authentic bag, then purchase a well made bag from a lesser known brand.

That’s one of the most conservative outfits I have personally ever seen on Lauren Sanchez 😂 When she went to the White House before for some event in the past year, she was wearing a partially transparent corset topped ball gown that had everything hanging out of it, to dine with the Bidens and probably hundreds of other celebrities and such people. She does not seem to care about being appropriate.

I really like the bag charm trend. I aim to purchase some custom bag charms to decorate my handbag. I loved Melania’s, Ivanka’s and Usha’s inaugural fashions. So classy and chic! As for the Walmart ‘birkin’, I don’t get the hype! I don’t care for replica handbags.

I agree with you on all but the bag tags, Jennifer. Those look trashy to me, esp the stuffed animals--really??! That Wirkin looks cheap in the photos, so must really look it in real life; quality is quality, for sure. Disappointed about the senator wearing his sloppy clothes; regardless of who it is, respect is in order due to the ceremony/symbolism about the office of US president.

Thank you for the post ~ no I wouldn't want a knockoff, if I have a budget I find something simple and beautiful. Speaking strictly of design, all designs contain emotional response for the creator or the observer. I felt that the hat is perhaps technically attractive or alluring in its clean lines strictly from a design perspective. Yet it brought and radiated feelings of loneliness, sadness, strangeness, eeriness, or even anger to the outfit which did not inspire my feelings of hope, connection or warmth. I like hope, connection and warmth a lot, so enjoy designs with those forms of beauty much more.

So...I just went to the Walmart web site, the Hermes web site and Amazon website. To compare Hermes and Walmarts versions is like comparing the sweetness of a bing cherry to a lemon. The Walmart versions are not made leather and the highest cost bag is under $40.00. Hermes does not sell the versions Walmart sells. Amazon sells other brands of knock-offs of the bags made with leather.
My mother taught me not to buy retail unless I can replace it.
When I worked retail I was taught being imitated was the highest form of flattery.

Don't think I'd have a problem with one or two charms (not too big and no stuffed animals) but most of the ones you showed would not go well with the more tailored, uncluttered look I prefer for myself. Sorry, I thought Lipa looked more disheveled than classy in that picture and most of the rest of the adorned bags would probably give me the same negative vibes as does too much clutter in my home.

I like to get designer anything thrifted. Not a dupe but also nowhere near the original price. Ivanka's inauguration attire was my favorite. And that pink on Usha was perfect for her. Loved Melania's hat look but would have liked it off when inside buildings so we could see her eyes. But like you said, she's stunning in anything. A simple scarf on your handbag would be fine, but the examples shown look like how my daughters would accessorize in elementary school. Not for me.

Regarding the Walmart Birkin, I totally agree with you, Jennifer. There are smaller handbag companies that make beautiful bags of excellent quality without the luxury price tag. Justine Leconte released a gorgeous bag collection a few years ago. These bags are still an investment, but I feel like I'm carrying around an Hermes or Chanel without the flashy logo. I live in Peru, so having such a blatantly luxurious bag could even be dangerous, depending on where you go.
Secondly, the first lady looked so stunning for the inauguration. I gasped when I saw her walk in! The only criticism on my part is just that it is a very mysterious look. While I love the look, I'm not sure that hiding her face under that beautiful hat was the best choice for an occasion like an inauguration. 🤷🏼‍♀️

LOL, reminds me of my teen daughter how she added cute key chains, stuffed animals, etc.. to her backpack!! Certainly NOT classy or elegant to me. Very teenagey 😅. To each her own. I cannot see Lady Melania, or Princess Kate with bags full of animals or whatever they put on their bags. HERE WE GO AGAIN, follow the young famous person when she starts acting like she's 13! People need to become more independent thinkers!

60 Minutes did a story on the Birkin and how its hand made. I don’t know about $40k but it made since why it’s expensive. Outright copying isn’t ok, but making fashion accessible gets my thumbs up. I don’t want to support Walmart but I understand that why it’s a hit.
