"Constant currency" removes fluctuations in earnings caused by changes in exchange rates. You can't compare different time periods using different exchange rates. Microsoft does business in a lot of currencies, so it is important to normalize exchange rates when doing comparisons. 👍
I'm glad to see that Microsoft has some actual incentive to keep Xbox around for a while longer. Must be a confidence booster for the teams working on some awesome games for sure!
You mean forever. PlayStation is the one that’s in trouble. They better get with the program or get left. One or two exclusive games a year isn’t going to cut it and hardware sales ain’t going to cut it either.
@baharv4575 why are they in trouble? Care to explain? when they're selling so much more. So you want Sony to acquire more studio's right? That's how they fix the game problem, but for some reason you guys don't tell Sony to do that.
Mate, they invested what was it $68B in gaming recently. I believe that MS as a corporation see they need to diversify their portfolio with gaming being a huge market they will try hard (and are willing to spend) to keep themselves relevant. This is not even about customers but investors. MS can say to them we have our share that we plan to increase in the most profitable entertainment branch (gaming). So even with hardware sales which might be below expectations MS will not abandon around what is it 30M customers who were willing to get their hardware. Well they still might but this imo would be a bad decision. Look how many companies want get this piece of this pie. Some might succeed some will fail. With that said I’m a bit worried about market consolidation. We all know how many studios EA bought and how many ended up on their graveyard, we also saw news about some issues within Embracer Group holding. Back to MS what I think is good is within gaming they also trying to diversify their portfolio we got HiFi Rush (priced at 30$), Pentiment (I believe also 30$), As Dusk Falls - smaller titles out of which 2 had at least good reception. With ABK they will have their foot in the most profitable (does not matter if we like it or not) branch of gaming industry which is mobile (more than 50% of total gaming market revenue). The thing is with big companies they have plans they follow but the good leadership is able to see/foresee changes and adopt to them. Sometimes mistakes are made (reveal of Xbox one), sometimes it pays of. What we for sure need is a good competition where corporations fight for customer attention and money. As this (at least in theory) should benefit the customer. Have a nice time gaming!
The funny thing is the Sony guys are not even talking SP. Why because they played it and moved on . They still have to discuss everything XB while avoiding the positive
Your channel is my sole source of gaming news. And I admittedly game an obscene amount over all 3 current Gen consoles. Thanks for keeping me informed!❤😊
I subscribe by 1 month... Why does it matter? Sony getting you to sign up for a year and have it not be used is a scam.. Month to monthers are the biggest metric to any subscription service
I feel Starfield and Xbox gp subscription was boosted everything on pc rather than console sales. Microsoft could be in a great place with consoles like the Rog Ally and Go coming out. If Microsoft support these devices Xbox sales don't matter to much just like holding the pc market. Gamepass is definitely going to be a game changer from Microsoft going forward
Are those 11 million gamers still playing the game though. I just reached level 50 and when the achievement popped it states only 5.6% (5 . something anyway) had achieved level 50.
Constant Currency is when accounting for currency fluctuations and exchange rate fluctuations. I'm assuming that given the volatility of currencies related to the dollar, it may just mean that they are making less profit per console sold (or taking a bigger loss) but that is an assumption.
No wonder we keep getting broken buggy AAA titles, with these figure's what Publisher is going to listen to the gaming community when they don't have to. I'm really struggling to enjoy Forza Motorsport in it's current state, it's more frustrating than fun.

Something strange is going on at IGN with Starfield. Usually when Xbox releases a first party game they do a spoilercast on the Unlocked podcast. For some reason they barely even talked about Starfield at all. One episode when it first released they had the dude that reviewed it on and they talk about it. That was it. It’s been crickets ever since.
I hope that Sony realizes that MS's latest acquisition really keeps other massive companies such as Amazon away. If MS did not purchase Activision, would Google, Amazon, etc? Maybe.
Everyone want to get a piece of pie from gaming industry. Google tried with Stadia but their approach fail fast is not well suited for gaming market, you invest but the return might be in few years time. Not to mention their messed up business model and pricing for Stadia, fact the release of the service felt like beta and other issues. Amazon has money but for some reason they seem not to know how to get it, I believe the know how is missing. For them buying a publisher letting them do their job and learning from it would be a solution. But they would need to give the publisher a freedom and accept this is a long term commitment. Apple seems to wake up and want to get in, Netflix added some mobile games to their subscription. Watching this market changing is for sure interesting.
@@mravg79 Very true, but since gaming is a business that gets bigger and not smaller, I think other juggernaut companies will still climb onboard. Heck, Google's heavily advertising 120hz capable, game streaming Chromebooks.

The majority of people using game pass rental to play Starfield are not true die hard Bethesda fans and will not even play the game properly or come anywhere close to finishing it. They are more the sort of people who have never played a Bethesda RPG in their life and have only pretended to be interested in Starfield just to use as Twitter console war ammo. A Bethesda RPG requires serious time investment. I been playing since September 1st. Racked up 376 hours and currently at level 75. I was out of work throughout September. This would have been much harder had I been working. And taken even longer. Took me well over 3 years to finish Fallout 4....and that was all I was playing in most of that time. Starfield is just not the sort of game that a GENUINE fan would want to depend on a subscription model to access. It would be way more costly long term also. I calculate that if I was depending on rental for my access .....I would have had to already paid 2 monthly subscription fees (rapidly approaching the third) along with the £35 I would need for the upcoming Shattered Space DLC .....the cost of this alone already is over the halfway mark of what I paid for the £100 one time payment for the Premium Edition. And it's even weirder to actually buy and own DLC to a game you are relying on rental for access !!!!! Anyone serious about the game and knows the time investment required would be far better off just outright buying the Premium Edition. I had £150 put onto my Xbox account in preparation for pre-ordering this game back in the summer of 2021. Starfield was the biggest selling game of September. And I guarantee the majority of those were the REAL Bethesda RPG fans who fully intend to go all in on the game. The game pass subscribers would have given up on the game very sharpish when they saw the game requires way more time investment than they were ever going to put in.
It’s like XBOX’s target consumers is not worldwide because of some of the decisions they make. Now they came up with an all digital series refresh and SONY catered for both options on the slim. Moving on to the next generation coming in perhaps 2028, if Microsoft goes all digital and Sony caters for all variations like they have done on the ps5 refresh then they will pull all the other ones that don’t have access to fast affordable internet their way.
So they officially announced the refreshed sx or are we still assuming without the official announcement? I get there was the leak but everyone is running with something that isn’t announced yet.
Although this is amazing for xbox, they really need a new first party presentation soon from xbox. We know xbox has great stuff coming out in 2024, but we need release dates. Also media molecule getting layoffs really sucks considering they're genuinely one of the most creative studios in the industry
2024 is gonna be wild for xbox. Hellblade 2 and avowed are 2 big releases. Then treyarch cod which are usually beloved. Xbox will always have a steady stream of content...only question is what will these studios make. Blizzard has already been seperated from activision, very promising because they wont be forced to only make diablo wow and overwatch content.
I'm expecting something will be held in January. Xbox held a developer direct in January of this year. Also, I remember Matt Booty stating they held back certain announcements for things like "gamescom and the VGAs," which the VGAs are coming up soon, so expect something there.
about starfield being a flop ... I'm really starting to side eye a bunch of youtubers name Skillup for just running with the narritive. pretending the low steam scores aren't just weirdos review bombing the game. Its so weird how many of them have it out for bethesda.
Oh yeah you can tell SkillUp is so out of touch with certain things. My guess is he just hates Bethesda. Dude literally keeps giving updates on Starfield's recent Steam reviews score in literally every single video he makes since launch. I've been watching SkillUp for a while and he has never done this for any other game before, it's insane. Unsubbed from SkillUp.
People love Nintendo and PS because they do the SAMETHING.. People even say “They stick with “traditional” gaming.. People hate Xbox cause Xbox is innovation.. The don’t know if they are bad or not what they know is they don’t follow the “old” rules of “Be a king in ONE AREA ONLY” not make EVERY type of game.. Xbox does that and it something we KNOW the others can’t.. Xbox will be back on top soon and people just don’t want to admit the “Oldguard” is dead… Sony lost OVER 60 people this WEEK… Times are REALLY not what ALOT want to accept… And the times are changing..
Keep in mind right now Microsoft is trying get that investment back so everything they make is not profits.. $70 billion for Activision and $7 billion for Bethesda. Microsoft has a long way to go to break even...Later
Just yesterday a Forbes article came out stating that Xbox stated that Gamepass Subscribers went from 25M to 30M then back to 25M in the same month as Starfield launched, September. Nothing official came out but a RUclips account of 5k subscribers knows more? I would like someone from Xbox to confirm the actual date of this biggest Gamepass jump. Remember that Xbox Live went to Gamepass that same month. I'm skeptical of these numbers.
IGN US & Metacritic thought that their "Influence" could stop a Todd Howard directed Rpg? 🤔 .....Pfft...ROFL! 😂 What Ponies and the Sony Pony Media don't understand is that Gamers grew up with Todd's Rpg Vision, and just the rumor of a New Bethesda Rpg is going to put people in a "I'm not letting anyone stop me from buying & playing this game! 😆" mode. And when you make titles that even your HATERS put 1000's of hours into, all you have to do is say "But you're still playing my Sh*t Game, tho. 😊"
Their consoles will never sell as well as Nintendo or Sony as long as they release games day 1 on PC. If they didn't it would sell at least as much as PS5. There's millions of people who play Forza Horizon, Halo, Gears, and Starfield on PC. Consoles sold is a meaningless metric in this instance due to this. It's the last straw ps fans are grasping. I'm not sure how releasing MS, Zenimax, and ABK games day 1 on gamepass will do long term but for now holy shit is it a crazy good deal. Not to mention play anywhere (buy Xbox get PC for free). They will be the dominant gaming ecosystem in 10 years for better or worse.

Lol people still trashing starfield I myself have put over 130 hours in and have not even come close to the ending.
With all the side quests and exploration I might be in this game for awhile idc what others say their opinions don't matter to me I know what I like and right now starfield is it and this is my first bethesda game.
"Constant currency" removes fluctuations in earnings caused by changes in exchange rates. You can't compare different time periods using different exchange rates. Microsoft does business in a lot of currencies, so it is important to normalize exchange rates when doing comparisons. 👍
That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the info
Smooth Segway to subscribing today. Well done. Also, great vid!
I’m glad for Xbox they always took most of the jab now that their doing amazing they must have a big confidence boost good for them they deserve it😊👍👌
I'm glad to see that Microsoft has some actual incentive to keep Xbox around for a while longer.
I felt a great disturbance in the Force... as if millions of Sony Ponies suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced.
3:09 Constant currencies is a term that refers to a fixed exchange rate that eliminates fluctuations when calculating financial performance figures.

Thank YOU so much for all the info and analysis
Your channel is my sole source of gaming news. And I admittedly game an obscene amount over all 3 current Gen consoles. Thanks for keeping me informed!❤😊

I like xbox, but I'm curious how many of those new GP subscribers, only subscribed for 1 month to play Starfield.
They have discontinued the $1 promotion if I'm not mistaken. It was back for a few months only I think.
Yea they shitcanned that 1 dollar deal right before STARFIELD launched.
@@angcil88He wasn’t referring to the $1 deal…he just said that lots of people might have subbed for 1 month for just starfield.
I subscribe by 1 month... Why does it matter? Sony getting you to sign up for a year and have it not be used is a scam.. Month to monthers are the biggest metric to any subscription service
We have no way of knowing. However, is it really practical to buy ever other game, then subscribe to GP for Starfield?
I’m curious why hardware sales are down even with some big game releases. Seems odd.
It includes the hardware sales of surface as well in the report.
This is amazing. Great video as always son.
But, but... Starfield is mid!!!😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Think of how well it would do if it played like a current gen game.
I have that problem with Spiderman 2. It's a buggy mess and I ask myself how did it ever get pass quality control. Spiderman 2 is trash 🗑️.
@@1969Makaveli Sad thing is a lot of people accept it, with comments like" it's a new game of coarse it's going to have some bugs" and " don't worry it'll get patched". Gaming is the only industry were selling a broken product is accepted.
@1969Makaveli you don't even own sm2 let alone a ps5 😂😂
Constant currency: It implies that the values are corrected for inflation.
The console wars are over when you take out the box and focus on the software. Simple.
Does not these numbers include abk now? If so thats cheap to tout
Xbox can be king if they keep pumping these games out game pass with old call of duty’s and activism on titles will drive it up to the moon
They had 23 studios before activision blizzard and couldnt make games so what makes you think its gonna be any different?
Okay hold on. If half the hours played were on PC, how is that good for Xbox?
Something strange is going on at IGN with Starfield. Usually when Xbox releases a first party game they do a spoilercast on the Unlocked podcast. For some reason they barely even talked about Starfield at all. One episode when it first released they had the dude that reviewed it on and they talk about it. That was it. It’s been crickets ever since.
IGN is trash .... Ignorant Gaming News.
Okay call of duty modern warfare 3 I can't wait to hear something else
@@ridiculous_gaming I agree more companies will try to get a piece of the pie. We just do not know who and when. Time will tell.
Have a nice time gaming!
the sinle day subscription record will be left in dust the day activision games show up on Gamepass.
Constant currency means the figure is adjusted for inflation
This brings a smile to my face
great content keep it up, always factually
I’m more excited about fable because I don’t really like Bethesda games. But I have a Xbox serie s with gamepass and I’m happy about the future
Just raise your desk! LOL
Of course Xbox is doing very well. That's what happens when you are the leader in the video game industry.
LOL dumbest comment ever!!! How are they the leader last time i checked xbox is still in third place
Dudes really excited about another game with boys in tights 😂😂😂
Your sponsor spot is 20% of the video. Wow.
Happy Microsoft getting wins! Lets go 😁😁😁😁
Starfield is a massive letdown 6/10 Boring, Repetitive, Uninspiring and Generic
Lol no way. 8.5
How is lay offs rapant when games is over charged and bullshit monitization
Might as well just drop the hardware at this point
Hey destin does your fishtank have any fish in it?
Xbox may be in 3rd but they are killing it so we all win
These are fantastic news - so they don't need me to buy an Xbox as well, right?😃
Team XboX and Destin 4life !!
The long and the short of it
I hope some smart venture capitalists can help Media Molecule stay upright. Dreams is genius
about starfield being a flop ...
Xbox will be back on top soon and people just don’t want to admit the “Oldguard” is dead…
Sony lost OVER 60 people this WEEK…
Times are REALLY not what ALOT want to accept… And the times are changing..
Gaslighting 👏 Microsoft has an 18 month rule for their contracted employees and they can't come back for 6 months
Keep in mind right now Microsoft is trying get that investment back so everything they make is not profits.. $70 billion for Activision and $7 billion for Bethesda. Microsoft has a long way to go to break even...Later
AW2 imagine if on GP 😮 surprised drop
Just yesterday a Forbes article came out stating that Xbox stated that Gamepass Subscribers went from 25M to 30M then back to 25M in the same month as Starfield launched, September.
Nothing official came out but a RUclips account of 5k subscribers knows more? I would like someone from Xbox to confirm the actual date of this biggest Gamepass jump. Remember that Xbox Live went to Gamepass that same month.
I'm skeptical of these numbers.
Star Field is a solid 7... Everyone else trying to hype it up higher is smoking some stuff I want access to
Anyone who thinks Starfield is a 7 or below is the ones that are truly smoking something
Not impressed. Buying the biggest Gaming company is not impressive to me at all, sorry Destin.
ever since starfield coming out i have to wait ages i i want to try a game on the cloud i get fed up of waiting and end up playing something else
I know I got mg friend to subscribe to gamepass a few weeks ago… all we wanted to play was Starfield and GTA lol
The two hugest AAA open world industry pillars all for free on gamepass. 😂
IGN US & Metacritic thought that their "Influence" could stop a Todd Howard directed Rpg? 🤔
.....Pfft...ROFL! 😂
What Ponies and the Sony Pony Media don't understand is that Gamers grew up with Todd's Rpg Vision, and just the rumor of a New Bethesda Rpg is going to put people in a "I'm not letting anyone stop me from buying & playing this game! 😆" mode.
And when you make titles that even your HATERS put 1000's of hours into, all you have to do is say "But you're still playing my Sh*t Game, tho. 😊"
Microsoft and Bethesda are all laughing all the way too the bank
@@WhateverWhenever888 you should take you’re own advice buddy, you’re clearly triggered.
Meanwhile Sony stocks are trash. RIP NoStarfieldStation 😂
Spider-Man coming to Xbox
Is it?
Transformers always does well too and those movies are terrible
LoL after a month after starfield came out how many gamepass subs shut off? I bet the retention rate wasnt 100 percent. And nobody is even playing it anymore that i know have played it. Last time i checked there was less than 650 people watching starfield on twitch
You content till 2027 at least thats something..
And how much of thos revenue equals profits gamepass subscriptions growth has stagnatied and all the money spent getting games to gamepass and still laat in console sales again
Actually Gamepass has been growing every year by 27% on console and 159% on PC. You must be thinking of last place Sony with 30 million less subs than Gamepass and 70 million less than Xbox Live. 👍
Xbox already lost this gen and it just got started lmao. Phil already said they lost. This sales records is them comparing themselves to they own pass which pass couple years was a failure.
