Renewed vs Refurbished: How are the two different?

If you are looking to buy phones and gadgets, you will often find the terms "renewed" and "refurbished" used to describe them. There is a difference between Renewed and Refurbished. Renewed vs Refurbished: which one is better?

A renewed gadget has been returned by the customer and then put back on sale by the company. The gadget is checked to see if it is working properly and then put back on sale. Usually, the packaging of the product will be undone. Even though the product is not brand new, it should work just like a new product.
A refurbished gadget has been used before and then repaired. The gadget will usually have cosmetic damage, such as scratches or dents. However, the internals of the gadget will be checked to ensure that they are working properly. The gadget will then be sold at a discounted price.

Everyone talks about things that are in their comfort zone only. Can you stop using cell phone because it kills thousands of birds and disrupting the ecosystem ? If not then buying refurbished product that are discarded and low grades and will most probably fail with in a year anyway won't change anything.
