I just got my very first truck, a 2020 F150 with the 5.0L Coyote, traded in my 2018 Focus for it. I am no gear head and have never had much interest in cars or trucks because I never thought I'd be able to afford a cool one. It is something else driving a big powerful truck around, especially compared to all the cheap cars I've owned in the past. I had to get used to the throttle! after driving 3/4 ton Ram Cummins diesels for 19 years I traded for an 2015 F150 5.0. I bought the truck for this specific engine. Simple, not stressed, no complex turbos, no cylinder de-activation, no direct injection, an engine with 400,000 miles potential life in it. After 3 years of driving, I'm happy with my choice. And of course nothing sounds like a V8. :)

The 5.0 doesn’t have as much potential as the 3.5 unless you tear it open and do cams and pistons etc. you can get 100 more out of the 3.5 with a simple software tune. You’re right about having it power on top of the power band but that’s for cars going down the track. But for trucks you need power down low. The 3.5 is so good Ford put it in the GT
Dead on the money. The 5.0 has more potential than any other engine Ford offers in the F150. EcoBoosts are already turbocharged, so all that's left is a tune, maybe bigger turbos, and more fuel. @jimsteinway695 If the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 is so good then why did Ford made the 6.8L and 7.3L Godzilla V8s as base gas engines in the Super Duty and not the 3.5L EcoBoost V6?
Just bought my first truck a few days ago. 2016 F150 Xlt 5liter V8. I bought it because I heard they are super reliable. Hopefully they keep making them.
Yesterday I purchased a 2022 F150 XLT in Iconic Silver with a 5.0 Coyote. I've been waiting for months for my dealer to get some of them in. Finally they did.
Nobody has a crystal ball on any truck. But, the main thing is, if you take care of your truck, the odds are in your favor that it will take care of you regardless of 3.5 or 5.0. This fact is WAY more important than the engine itself imo. My Eco now has 92,000 miles on it, running strong. The main difference to me is the low RPM range on the Eco vs the higher RPM range on the 5.0. I have a 33 foot trailer I tow, my mind likes the fact that the engine doesn't have to revolve as much in the ECO vs the 5.0 when towing up (and down) hills. The Eco just glubs along at 2.5k, nice and easy, that crankshaft never gets too excited. It does sound like my high school honda though.
Awesome ! I just got into a 2014 5.0 ! But some 22s on 33s with that 12.50 wide stance !! No spacers needed the slightest littlest wheel well rub 💪🏼🔥 Looks amazing
I have a 2015 FX4 SCAB with the 5.0. I love the truck. Runs like a scald ape. The super cabs do not have the crash bars. My truck has a bit over 55k miles and 26k while towing either our travel trailer or my utility trailer with a load. Pulls both effortlessly.
5.0 all the way. Don't know who said it. BUT there is no replacement for displacement! Also, if desired, I'm sure you could boost or turbo the 5.0 and possibly mop the floor with the eco boosted thing.....just a thought.

2015 f150 kr 5.0 2015 explorer sport 3.5 tt? Happy with both the way they are and have had zero issues with either. Keep up with your maintenance requirements and your machines will last.
Hell yeah its worth it. I have a 2016 f150 with a 5.0L and it handles all of my needs to include a 30' travel trailer, a 6'x12' dump trailer (12k capacity) and a 25' Bayliner. It handles all of them with ease. And I installed a throttle commander that unlocks all of the "restricted" (governed) abilities of the truck. I love my truck and I will run it until the wheels fall off.
Love my 2012 f150 xlt 5.0 coyote never skipped a beat and ive put it to the test. Thought about selling it a few times but nothing comes close to being better
5 liter V8 and very happy with it. My 2019 supercrew with a 6.5 foot bed and 300 lb campershell gets 22.5 on the freeway. My first V8 - the truck is so quiet I can't hear any exhaust sound unless I'm passing someone. I add one quart of oil 2500 miles after an oil change and it's good until the next change at 5000 miles. Tows, launches and goes up the ramp with a 3200 lb boat/trailer effortlessly.
So I have a 2013 f150 non-rapter with the 6.2 liter and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I get 16.5mpg empty and still have enough power to pull anything I want. Not to mention it's pretty quick off the line.
I agree, I have a 11 Platinum 6.2L with that engine and I get offers from people here and there.. I love that machine. I remember reading the Ford Brochure about that motor, they wrote the 6.2L choice isn't for everyone ...but it said something like....it is for the ones who know what they want.
5.0 as our 1st ever truck last year - The wife chose by colour and as a bonus picked a 2017 5.0 ☺️ Fast forward 11months and the family truck has towed, hauled and transported us all over and NOW since 2 weeks ago has a Magnaflow Sports Muffler, need I say more 😉
2016 XLT Super Crew with the 5.0L Coyote and I couldn't ask for anything better!!! They perfected the V8 with this motor and I hope they keep it around forever. I will ALWAYS buy an F150 with a V8 if I had the choice!!! Very happy!
Bought a new 2023, the reason is I loved my gen 2 coyote Mustang. It’s nice but I’ll always love sports car more than trucks. Nothing like banging gears when driving
5.0 G! My first 5.0 was a 1979 mustang pace car with a whopping 145 hp. Now we are coyote powered. Love the sound and simplicity of the motor. Thanks for your awesome post. Keep up the good work and we will be watching faithfully!
I have the 5.0 coyote in my 2015 F-150. It has cold air intake, and Magnaflow cat back exhaust. Bully dog tune & it screams. Absolutely love it and wouldn’t have any other engine!
2021 F150. 5.0 COYOTE V8 is the only way to go. I like mine being nice and quiet. It's funny when you pull up to a guy is a loud nice new chevy pickup and blow his doors off without making a sound. The look on his face was priceless.
Awesome video brother, I have a 2011 Ford F150 with a 5.0L Coyote V8 in it with 160,000 miles on it and still going strong and its a beast and it sounds like a beast with the Borla ATAK exhaust on it as well.
Ordered my new truck yesterday. 5.0 all the way even though I have to wait for the configuration I want. Naturally aspirated and dual GDI/Port Injection. That’s huge to me. Why add two turbos and all the complicated tech required to make a mid-size car engine pull a full size truck? Though initial performance is comparable on the 3.5 and the 5.0, reliability, longevity and repairability go to the Coyote, hands down. Of course, if you are the kind of person who likes to get a new truck every few years, this doesn’t matter. But if you like to keep your trucks for the long run and pay attention to use, care and maintenance discipline, Coyote is the only way to go.
Just hopped in a 2024 F-150 Lariat with the Coyote. Excited to have this truck for a nice long time. I missed being in an old-fashioned V8 pickup. Used to have an '03 Dodge Ram that I absolutely loved. But this thing is pretty sick, definitely a way nicer truck. This is the generation however that has cylinder deactivation so it's pointless as it is and as infrequently as it tends to actually kick in, all I can think is that is a new system on the engine that can have some kind of failure state. The last thing I would want is for something to trip that system up so that I'm stuck on 4 cylinders. But I'm not necessarily too worried about it. Consensus seems to be that with routine maintenance this engine lasts a long time
He says 2009 but I believe it was 2011 model where 3.5 EcoBoost and the 5.0L v8 were introduced. In 2009, the 6 speed automatic transmission replaced the 4 speed auto. Great video nonetheless 👍
I have a 2017 F150 5.0 … bought because it has the naturally aspirated V8 and 6 Speed trans. No cylinder deactivation, no auto stop/start, direct injection and all the other crap trucks come with these days. I like them simple and easy to work on.
Just bought a 5.0 2015 with 85k miles…I’m curious to know what type of oil are ull using? I know ford recommends 5w20 synthetic but I’ve seen some comments that say 5w30 is better…Any feedback about this would be aprreciated….Thanks
2020 f-150 5.0 here, It tows my 8k pound boat just fine. Sounds great, and has plenty of ass to get me moving. I think the dcoboost is a great motor as well but something about my coyote just feels right. Kinda like PB&J.
Ha ha pulls your boat fine, my 5.0 was screaming and had no torque unless it was redlining and my boat was only 5000lbs constantly hunting for the right gear and burned oil excessively, the money you are paying for oil consumption you could afford a ram lol
i have driven the 3.7L which is the non turbo 2016 v6, its pretty much the same motor as the 3.6L with turbos but i think slightly bigger cylinders.... the water pump was $2100 and that wasnt with oem parts. So I would have to say the 5.0L is highly appealing in its simplicity as a V8 and i would choose the 5.0L
I put a water pump n my 13 mustang 5.0 bck n 2017 fr $250 installed. I hve a 2020 f150 I hope if it ever needs a water pump I hope it's as cheap and easy to install as my mustang
@@clearcut6818 well depends on the differences, a top of the line racing 5.0 in a mustang is going to have different components and build quality then a standard 5.0 but they are probably going to share alot of the same design as they are both called the 5.0 coyote engine. Mustang probably has performance parts maybe a race block in it but platform they should be fairly similar overall
I drive a 2018 ecoboost powered truck. I won't go back to an N/A V8 powered truck. Today's V8's leave to much efficiency on the table. At 70 mph I can get 26 mpg with my ecoboost powered truck.
The 5.0 coyote doesn't have a flat plane crank like you said 50 seconds into this video nor did the Camaro ever come with a LS2. You showed the 5th gen which came with the LS3, L99 and LS7 in the z28. The GTO had the LS2 in 05/06.
Ecoboost in my ST and Coyote in my F150. The larger displacement ecoboosts seem to have issues. Meanwhile my 2.0 is pushing the same crank HP as the Coyote and hasn't had a hiccup in 6 years.

I bought a year & a half old 2018 F150 XLT with 5.0 but I do not know if it is a Coyote engine. It had 30 miles when I bought it and now it sits at 99k miles. I used it to move my entire household from WI to NM and piled on the miles. It commonly gets 20+ mpg & has tons of power. Are there any common engine issues when mileage gets high ? The way things are these days, I will rebuild the engine & trans if needed before buying anything new.
I have a 2018 as well. 2018 is the worst year for the 5.0 due to oil consumption. Does is replacing my engine but it’s been on back order for 9 months with no eta in sight.
I have a 2012 F150 5.0L XL, 240k miles and haven’t had really any issues. I put heavy duty tow brakes on it, heavy duty steel rear bumper, heavy duty iron cross full guard (bumper+brush guard combo) with 10 gauge American steel and quarter inch piping 2400$, morimoto LED headlights 1400$, iron cross LED fog lights etc on mine turning it into a even badder sexy beast. I’m about to put new 265/70/17s on it (31.7 inch i believe so basically 32 in tires) on stock height (I’m wanting BDS 6 inch lift kit with fox shocks when I can afford it. A 5.0 with a supercharger is a working man's dream. Hell put some turbo on it... What a work truck looks like 4x4 5.0L Crew Cab. This is all a working man needs
My 2013 STX 5.0 now has 170,000 miles on it, I replaced a radiator hose because the o ring was leaking and the Purge Solenoid in the last 9 years, thats it! no leaks, no problems, no engine lights or codes, just runs brilliantly everyday!
@@dylankorpi137 just hit 200,000 still running strong no issues, albeit my running boards are rotting out from the 12 years of harsh New England winters! Seems the truck and engine will outlast the body...
Owning a 14 f150 coyote im sure a lot of the towing difference is because ford wanted to push the ecoboost as the top of the line engine and thus equiped all 5.0l with softer suspension (which is the softest suspension ive ever had on a truck even vs my old 4cyl s10)
I have a 2012 fx4. Have always owned ford vehicles. I see nothing wrong with chevy dodge or whatever others may choose! But when i test drove my fx4 i was hooked. This thing plane halls ass. Owned it now for 7 years. Been a good dependable truck.
5.0 baby Don’t get me wrong with 3.5 eco-boost is a beast of a motor and also this new 2.7 eco-boost is also a really good strong motor but I’m just an old school dude that enjoys a V-8, I don’t have to worry about turbos. I don’t have to worry crab gathering on my valves and the leaking oil pan that people are complaining about. I know the 3.5 also had issues with the screen at the end of the tube that feeds the turbo sometimes clogged up and that’s what’s causing turbo to burn out due to the crap in the oil from the turbos. I just wanna be able to change the oil change oil filters and keep going I don’t wanna worry about any of that stuff and a good v8 does that for me
So loved the video it was very informative. But my question is this is a 2015 2gen cyote a good investment ? Found one that pushes all my buttons sense I am a ram guy my dad was a ford guy so should I pull the plug and get a cyote
I own a 2020 f150 5.0 and love it. Great power and sound. Bought a 7 person travel trailer and it tows it easily. 4500 lbs dry weight. I’ll be buying a 2.5 BDS LEVEL and some wheels/ tires from you guys soon! Eventually I plan to buy the roush supercharger!
I have my ‘09 F-150. I chose the 4.6 multi valve V8 because I did want to try the new Coyote 5.0. No regrets. 22.47mpg! I can’t sit in it long enough to use the full tank of gas! 6 speed, 333 rear end. Not 4WD

Is it just me or does 40 million seem like a small number for f series trucks sold in 75 years. I mean we're talking about the number one selling vehicle in the whole world, the f150. Plus if you're saying f series, that also includes f250, 350, and 450.
I could be wrong I think the 5.0 was in the Jaguars before putting it in the GT or F150. I have a 2011 f150 with the coyote with 279000 miles. Only problem the damn radio went out.
The current 5.0 are having issues aren’t they? If you’re wanting a reliable engine right now the two that come to mind from ford is the 5.0 or the 2.7 ecoboost. They’re the most bulletproof at the moment.
Bought a 2011 F150 5.0 supercrew with 101k. It's a solid truck, BUT I sold it and purchased a 2018 F150 3.5 ecoboost, and the difference is day and night when you get to high elevation and the 5.0 guzzles gas like I guzzle beer. Mpg is way better, and it sounds like a mini rig.
Looking into getting a new truck with the Coyote engine in it. Coming from a twin turbo BMW... I really think I'd rather stick with a naturally aspirated, high revving, reliable engine. Maybe one day I'll even throw a super charger on it, but 380 is way better than the 280 my old tahoe got.
Will always stand behind a 5.0

PS it's cross plane, the GT350's 5.2 Voodoo is the only flat plane crank modular Ford V8
I just bought a 2023 single cab 5.0 long bed F150. And i love it!
I haul flooring like carpet and laminate capacity around 1300-2000 lbs is v6 good or you still choose v8?

My 2021 coyote is a beast. By far my favorite truck I ever owned
Love my 2012 f150 xlt 5.0 coyote never skipped a beat and ive put it to the test. Thought about selling it a few times but nothing comes close to being better
I own a 2016 f150 with the 5.0 coyote motor, absolutely love it
5 liter V8 and very happy with it.
I own a 2021 supercrew 4x4 with the 5.0 and love it
Love my 2017 coyote 5.0. Very strong running, pulls my RV great!
Single cab, short box Coyote F150 with a 2-3 drop and big single turbo. That would be my build of choice to tear up the street/strip.
I’ve had 2 eco boost and just bought my first 5.0 and it’s working out better tbh
5.0 as our 1st ever truck last year - The wife chose by colour and as a bonus picked a 2017 5.0 ☺️
Fast forward 11months and the family truck has towed, hauled and transported us all over and NOW since 2 weeks ago has a Magnaflow Sports Muffler, need I say more 😉
I have a 2013 F-150 supercab 5.0 with 250000 miles and it's still running VERY good. I love my truck. Thanks for the shout-out to the 5.0.
Just got a 2019 5.0 f150 ordered a set of 20x9 wheels from y’all can’t wait to make this truck my own and finish it up!
Right on!
The 5.0 f150 and the 3.5 ecoboost weren't released until 2011. 09 and 10 had the 5.4 or the 4.6 triton engines.
I love my 2018 f150 5.0! Can’t wait to get wheels and tires for it!
I just traded in my 2020 Ranger because the sound wasn’t enough, so I went with a 2017 F250 power stroke an now I’m satisfied 😅
I have the 5.0 coyote in my 2015 F-150. It has cold air intake, and Magnaflow cat back exhaust. Bully dog tune & it screams. Absolutely love it and wouldn’t have any other engine!
Got a 2011 5.0 and picking up my 2018 5.0 tomorrow. ☺️
How are you enjoying adding oil every day lol
2021 F150. 5.0 COYOTE V8 is the only way to go.
Amen brother you said it best!
@@undrasr001 I put a new water pump on my lx 5.0 mustang about 25 years ago and It cost 25$ at autozone 😆
There's nothing similar between a base engine and a top-of-the-line non-electric engine.
If you paid $2100 for a water pump you got ripped off big time
Got a 01 f150 with the 2V 5.4 225k+ miles still running but lacks power thinking of swapping or turbo it
The Coyote doesn't have a flat plane crank. Only the Voodoo engine does and it's a bucket of trouble
I just ordered a 2022 with the 3.5 ecoboost but I lease them if I planned on keeping it outside of warranty I would have got the 5.0
I drive a 2018 ecoboost powered truck.
Not to mention the 5.0 didn’t come back to the f150s till 2011. Same body style but the first few years were still 5.4s
Ecoboost in my ST and Coyote in my F150. The larger displacement ecoboosts seem to have issues. Meanwhile my 2.0 is pushing the same crank HP as the Coyote and hasn't had a hiccup in 6 years.
When you hit 35,000 miles and need new turbos
I have always loved the 5.0L coyote. I wasn’t an ecoboost fan until Ford introduced their hybrid power train, the Powerboost!

Have owned 2 3.5L and now a 5.0. I love the sound of the V8!
So I can put 35s on with no rub, it’s got mayhem rims that I’d like to change to fuel. Overall the 5.0 is a bad ass truck

Owning a 14 f150 coyote im sure a lot of the towing difference is because ford wanted to push the ecoboost as the top of the line engine and thus equiped all 5.0l with softer suspension (which is the softest suspension ive ever had on a truck even vs my old 4cyl s10)

I just wanna be able to change the oil change oil filters and keep going I don’t wanna worry about any of that stuff and a good v8 does that for me
After own an ecoboost i want to try the 5.0
