  • DIY : Build a Shark Tooth Sifter | Flip Flop Repair Shop | Kayak7seas
    On this episode of the DIY Flip Flop Repair shop series we build a sand sifter which can be used to hunt for fossils, shells and shark teeth. I built three of these for my upcoming Fathers Day Weekend Wilmington trip. Be sure to check out that video to see how successful these shark tooth sifters were. To build your own fossil collecting sifter you will need the following:
    1 - 10 foot length of 1/2 inch PVC pipe
    4 - 1/2 inch PVC "T" connectors
    4 - 1/2 inch PVC elbow connectors
    1- roll of 1/4 inch garden cloth (this is actually metal wire mesh)
    2 - pool noodles
    1 - package of 8 inch zip ties
    1 - package of 11 inch zip ties
    Basic Instructions: Cut the 10 foot pipe into 6 - 18 inch pieces and 4 - 2 1/2 inch pieces. Use the "T" and elbow connectors as described in this video to assemble the sifter base. Cut and zip tie 1/4 inch garden cloth to PVC sifter frame using 8 inch zip ties. Cut and install pool noodles on outer frame using 11 inch zip ties. The project takes a couple hours to build and is a fun satisfying project.

    Great video…2questions
    Do you think a smaller one would work to be able to put in my suitcase? If so what would be smallest size?
    Do you think handles are necessary or can you get by without them

    • @Kayak7seas
      @Kayak7seas  Год назад

      yes, you could opt for a smaller one to fit in your suitcase. You just might not be able to pour as much sand on it to sift. The handles aren't really necessary, just a nice addition.

      yes, they will stay on without any glue or tape if you put the pipe into the fitting snug enough.

      $63.61 total as of today to make two 18” models like in the video. Got to love inflation in the last two years. The zip ties have tripled in price alone. Was forced to buy the 10’ long of wire so that should go a long way making other sifters down the road.
