I loved the thought-provoking interpretations on the acting/directing side, adding meaning and interest to the text rather than changing it around. A standing ovation for Emma Bell and Paul Carey Jones in particular. Thank you all for this!
Many thanks to Operavision and the Longborough Festival Opera for presenting the opera in razor-sharp 4k resolution. The quality of the 4k transfer is excellent, coping well with the low stage lighting. There is a beautifully natural sense of sharpness to the images, as well as more detail in dark areas than you normally get and we are able to view the entire stage without missing any details. It is definitely a staging that has benefited greatly from filming in 4K.
Superb singing and acting, and playing in the pit. Great cast all really committed to the production, and it shows. Thank you - this has been a real treat and I’ll definitely watch again before it disappears.

И артикуляция отличная, а несовершенства голосовые можно простить. Театральный праздник! Это очень ценно. Акцент на индивидуальности певцов без режиссерской лобуды. Я в восторге. Браво!
Esecuzione di primo ordine, direzione quasi sempre trascinante. Primo Atto strepitoso grazie anche a un Siegmund potentissimo. Nel secondo Atto qualche cedimento di tensione nella parte centrale, ma poderoso il finale, dalla apparizione di Brunilde a Siegmund in poi. Terzo Atto adeguato specie le otto walkirie. Mi è piaciuto molto Wotan , vecchio e smarrito, schiacciato dalla propria impotenza a rimediare ai guai da lui stesso combinati

my birthday is on may 22 ... that's why i sleep under a portrait of richard wagner ... an aunt was a music critic and wagnerian ... i was her favorite due to my birthday ... that's why i inherited the portrait ... the ring i saw all over ... in paris ... in nyc (2 different productions) ... in zurich where i live ... the first performance of a part of walküre was in the baur au lac in zurich ... richard lived in zurich ... etc. etc. a lot of performances in la scala and of course ... bayreuth ... the best walküre of my life was in the met 1975 with ... birgit nilsson ... the same day in the evening gala performance with luciano pavarotti ... i think i was blessed ...
It’s nearly 50 years since I first (and last) watched The Valkyrie [Bayreuth, Gwyneth Jones as Brunhilde]. I had forgotten much of the detail of the story. This performance was stunning. Beautifully staged, magnificent voices and acting. The final scene between Wotan and Brunhilde was so intimate and heart-wrenching. For me the only drawback was Brunhilde’s overblown vibrato. Curious to know why Fricka was absent from the final bows. I know she only has a (relatively) small part, but still. Her voice and stage presence were superb.
This production perfectly demonstrates why Wagner strikes fear into the hearts of every opera company. Inhuman singing, staging that properly requires CGI, and an orchestra snorting cocaine.

The production does not lose touch with the roots of the Ring story: Norse mythology. The singers look like the characters in these stories, they're not dressed up in modern garb, as if that would somehow make us understand the story better if they were.
The Brunnhilde was truly terrible and everyone else is a second rate singer, but in a world were poorly executed post-modern productions predominate and third and fourth rate singers make the roster at the Met this is still sadly one of the best performances today. Even the orchestra made quite a few mistakes but the magic of Wagner elevates everything so I still watched the whole thing through
In my humble opinion, it befits grim, other-worldly beings well; whereas, colourful and gaudy representations may not. That said, who knows what other-worldly beings might look like (if anything at all)? RW must be chuckling up (or down) there somewhere....
The recording is sublime and happily listen to as audio. Sieglinde is perfect. Just not sure about the cut-price staging, and still feel performers should be younger

Caro amico: Dopo l'edizione di Pierre Boulez e Patrice Chereau del 1980 (ma che fu fischiata nel 1976 a Bayreuth) per me la migliore di tutte, io posseggo un'altra decina di RINGs. Straordinaria quella del 1992 di Baremboin - Kupfer a Berlino Staatsoper. Monto valida quella del MET 1988 con una Behrens purtroppo al limite, e anche la versione con le famose 24 travi del MET 2012 dove trovi la migliore coppia dei gemelli con Kaufmann e Westbroeck. Anche bella quella di Valencia 2006 che dirige Mehta. Quella della Scala 2010/13 per me da dimenticare: perche fare quelle ripulsive pustole nelle faccie di Mime e Alberico?? Remigio dall'Argentina

Lee Bisset é stata Siglinde a Opera North nel 2013 se non sbaglio. A Berlino Staasoper recentemente hanno anche cambiato la storia...(Volle e Hampe comunque bravissimi). Scusa il mio italiano. Remigio dall'Argentina; dove nel 2013 abbiamo fatto il "Colon Ring" ossia un Ring accorciato ma tutto in due parti con una durata complessiva di sei ore...La Watson fu una grande Brunhilde, senza vibrato...
Went to Longborough a few years ago to see their Tristan which was wonderful. The audience was awful, full of Tories in penguins suits looking down at an ordinary opera lover like me who wasn’t there for the social life of the intervals !
Frankly disappointing. We're still waiting for the visual version that will take us out of the hell of the Regietheater, but it's not that one yet: no elegance, no vision of nature, just prosaic. Very cheap. And the singers are a disaster: screaming, enormous vibrato, and no charisma at all. It's all horrible.
Брунгильда ужасна в плане пения. Внешность, игра - ок, но голос жуть. Такая болтанка! А нашу Нетребко треплют и смешивают с грязью за гораздо меньшую вибрацию. В сравнении с этой Брунгильдой Нетребко просто звезда.
