it's all personal opinions...this is good, but THE best version ever is the one by Johnny Kidd & his Pirates with Mick Green on guitar from '63..as good as the Beatles , as good as anyone else's .Always has been
@@oceantree5000 No doubt about that, but have you heard the Freddy and the Dreamers version? Holy poop batman, that little guy could sing. He should have sung that instead of "Do the Freddy" on Sullivans show. Might have made a big difference in career choices.
The big Threes was a first run through that Decca decided to release just listen to the manky bass playing on it in fact Johnny Gustafson stops playing halfway through listen to it.And the Big Three we’re a fantastic group I actually see them at the Cavern and Shorditch Town Hall.
You can really hear John's hofner in the mix I think it was a club 60 against what might be Mike's burns vibra artist. The Searchers had a distinctive sound. On the back of the sugar and Spice lp Tony explained the bands sound. He said that their sound was due to them using their original battered old guitars stuck together with tape! John's rhythm had that wonderful double strum if that makes sense!
The Searchers were more accurate to Richie Barrett's original lyrics than the other British bands, but they still misquoted a few: In the first verse, "Has taken away my sweet desire"/"Just threw water on my fire" In the second verse, "Is tippin' up behind me like a yellow dog" In the third verse, "Is breakin' the padlock off my pad"/"Went and took the first gal I ever had"
This just sounds like mayonnaise on white bread compared to the Beatle version (there's a good full live Beatle version on the Live at the BBC disc set). The drumming especially, is really plain, "two beat" and tired compared to Ringo's drumming.
Without a doubt this is the best of the best on this tune. Searchers had such a great sound. That's not to slight anyone else.

I’d give Richie Barrett’s original the nod over this (excellent) version, big-time.

Recorded orginally by Ritchie Barratt the Anthem of every British beat group in the 60s
Epitome of the Mersey sound for my 💰
Listen to The Big Three doing this song. I think that's the best one!!
I agree - The Big Three’s version is much better - ruclips.net/video/o7gWDMWC7Zc/видео.html. I saw all these groups live in Liverpool in the 1960’s.

I like.
Thank you for uploading. Their singing seems to be softer than Beatles does.

SUPER BEAT
the best version ever

I believe it's "steppin' up behind me like a yellow dog".
Freddie & The Dreamers do a cracking version.

Beatles do it way better by a long shot!
Really and just where did you hear a full recording of the Beatles doing this song?
Negative, this was their signature song
Russell, Live at BBC Vol I, Disc 1 Track 11. In my estimation far weaker than Searcher's version.
Never cared for the Beatles or their music, they should have stayed where they came from, no offense to you Beatles fans>>>!!!!
Mohair Ellis then you don’t know shit about music
