Wow you almost have a full guide of settling in Saskatoon, thanks a lot for these videos they will help me when I get there someday. You totally deserve the subscribes! I wish you're having a good day :)
You are absolutely right, car looses its value as soon as you drive out of the dealers lot. And the payment never ends, bigger portion goes on interest. It’s advisable to spend time and read whatever documents they give you well and strategize your payments if the main purpose of buying was to build credit. In that case don’t don’t go for too expensive.
I was telling my sisters the other day that in Canada, not everyone you see driving a car owns that car. A lot of people rented those cars or took loans to get the car which is different from Nigeria that most people you see driving own the car. Owing a car comes with a whole lot of costs and sometimes even if you can afford it it might be wise to hold on and stick to the transit system except you really need it. It’s okay to hold on for some time because that money you’ll spend would never be gotten back. The transit system isn’t the worst and could be cheaper in some cases. You might buy a car but by the time you think of the costs of maintenance, insurance parking etc the cost goes up. When it comes to parking, in some cases you’ll have to think about that costs for your home/apartment and even work. Not all organizations provide free parking to their employees. Parking could be so expensive in some places and when you think about all of that you might be able to save up some money you can put towards somethings else that’ll generate money for you while you save up to purchase that car later.
You are so right. There are parking stalls in Downtown Saskatoon that cost up to $250 a month. Even more than some people's insurance and the cost of gas. That is a significant expense that a lot of people don't think about. Thanks for sharing
Great video idea coz I believe us as Africans we pay less attention to contracts we sign. Once we have been approved we think that’s it not paying attention to the high interest rate. Thanks for sharing
Great post! Your position as regards taking time to buy or starting cheap skate makes sense....whenever I'm deployed to a new location, I use public transport to enable me understand routes
I know right? I am so glad i got the chance to use the bus; that is how i found my way around and now, I know more places than my hubby who started driving almost immediately. Thanks a lot
This messsge is personally to me. U're always telling me what i need to know at the right time. How wish i can like your video a million times. May God give u more wisdom.
Very helpful tips. Took my mind back to undergrads days when all new students coming from Nigeria felt there was a need for them to own cars and rent fancy apartments. Some people do have misplaced priorities.
It is very common here too. Newcomers buying cars and renting apartments they cant afford long term. I hope we leanr to reorder our priorities. Thanks for watching
Yes you are so very right . Buy what you can afford. What gives you good value . Is in the better end on fuel costs. Most people don't need a truck to drive in the city where a Honda Civic would get double the km traveled for the same cost. Of gas . Very good pionts you bring up .
I stayed for 2yrs before getting a car. I asked so many questions and searched online for what I wanted so when I went to the dealers shop I went straight for that and didn't let them do their tricks on me. I also knew the rules concerning military and tabled when I got there so they knew I was bad market.
Affordability is number one and like you said also factor in other cost that comes with having a car....I dont have issues starting with small 2nd hand cars🤣🤣
Just came across your channel and i love it. i totally agree with you, i live in Saskatoon and do not have a car yet. i am single and it is still easy for me to move around. But if you have kids, yes you might need to get one.
Hi marina I live in Canada for 5 years now. I used to think I don't need a car until a few months ago. You can use a car to get extra money especially with the lockdowns that happened over the last 2 years. Also people have become "entitled" over the last two years with all the division that is happening with the ever changing covid rules. I have been harassed on public transit like 4 times in 2022. Just this evening I was with my child and a man was above me I had to get up quickly because he was about to spit on us. About a week ago a man poured a substance on a young lady while she was boarding the bus in Toronto and light her on fire. They do not know each other. Right now a car for me is about my safety and that of my children. I'm learning to drive now and would be buying a used car once I pass by test.
Hey Marina, thanks for your content! What would you recommend as the best option to get a car for a short term period of like 3-6 months? For a tourist without any credit history in Canada. Are there any car subscription services?
That wasn't really the idea of the video. It is to give general tips on what to look out for. My opinion on brand new cars for newcomers was stated in the beginning so I didnt see a need to compare prices. Thanks for watching.
@@MARINAESIRI thanks for the explanation. But what I mean exactly is like telling us the range of prices for both used and new cars so that one can have an idea of the prices
For the U of S, the references will be contacted directly by the school and they respond directly to the school so you don't play a role other than provide their details. Other schools may do it differently. You need to confirm what works in the school you apply to.
louder oo for the people at the back!!! A car in Canada is not luxury ,its a necessity and should purchased when it is really needed. All that financing is not something to rush into
Chai me that I'm planning to go and buy Lamborghini 2021 model. Well like I always say alot of folks will still make mistakes because they are thinking with their kidneys. Weldone babe.
@@MARINAESIRI Oh yes, I intend to drive for Uber while doing my masters after landing as PR. I want to know how feasible it is and whether or not the bills wouldn't take away all the monies made - based on this video you put out today. I have other business ideas in the same automobile industry but I'm afraid the studies might not give me ample time to explore them in my early days in Canada. Thanks for responding!!!
I typically will not advise anyone to go straight to a masters degree upon arrival in Canada as a PR. There is a lot more emphasis on experience than on paper qualification. If you will like to talk more about this, please send an email to marina.esiri@gmail.com
Hello .. New on this Channel and Saskatchewan has always been the place I wanted to live in Canada 😁.. Informative Video. MERCI .. Kisses from Abidjan , Cote d'Ivoire.. Could you tell me about the French Community overthere?? Blessings
You are very correct. I was talking about that in the context of the conversation i was having. It is not typical that new comers are thinking about buying a car for uber upon arrival. Most times, the priority is to settle down with the family and finding your way around. I get your point though. Many thanks.
That depends on the individuals. Price range will depend on you and what you can afford. there are cars you can get for as low as $2000 and cars can go as high as $30,000 or more.
Goodafternoon Madam, I must appreciate you for all your effort in helping people like me who have been dreaming of living in canada some day. Please I have some enquiry to make. Presently, I just graduated from the university of Abuja with a second class upper in B.SC Economics. I intend to apply to the university of Manitoba to study Masters in Economics or Agribusiness. This morning came across something on the net that's so confusing. Someone wrote that if the course you want to study in canada is readily available in your country, that you can be denied a study visa. Please am confused. Most universities in Nigeria offers masters in Economics and even the Agribusiness, right now I dont know what to do. Please advice me on this. Thank you so much
In this is the first time I will hear that. Where did you hear this, if I may ask? I doubt that will be a valid reason to reject a study permit. There are other reasons why a study permit will be rejected. If you want to talk more about this, please send an email to Marina.esiri@gmail.com
🚘🚗🚙Canada has a big manufacturing industry for vehicles, so used cars come cheap and in very good condition. Just spend $30 for a VIN search FULL report for due diligence, and CAD $3,000 buys you a good car or minivan in Saskatchewan/Manitoba or $2,000 in Ontario/Quebec. Nice video, thanks MARINA for emphasis on VIN check for car history before buying....BUYER BEWARE❗
