Respect to those students who solved this question correctly during examination.... When most of the faculties are solving this question wrong......
Main point is when considering functions, f(x) ^g(x). g(x) can be anything. But f(x) has to be non negative. Integer exponents or powers of negative numbers are defined, but the definition does not work when the exponents are functions taking non integer values. This is why when a =2, the expression is not defined near x = 1. Or the neighbourhood of 0 is not in the domain of the function. So a cannot be 2. The only cases when the limit can 1/4 is a =0,2. But if a= 2, the expression is not defined near 1, so no limit exists at 1. When a = 0, the function is defined, and limit calculation gives 1/4. V good question.
This is the right explanation . And there is nothing rocketing ( which sir is talking about in this video)
Ye to bohot aasani se samjha diya sir! 😀👍👍💖💖

it's good to have an explanation like this but these questions don't imply general mathematics, they are conditional, in one condition you are expecting the value of a=0 and (1/2)^2 to be 1/4, and in another condition it been accepted that if a=2 then its (-1/2)^2 is not 1/4 although the limit is same for both and x tends to 1. hence, they are tricky questions need not to be generalized in any case. the real objective of this problem was only to highlight " the even root of a negative number is undefined for real numbers". because the faculty who makes the question work on real life problems and sometimes they go under this kind of situation therefore these kind of questions are asked. my suggestion for the JEE aspirants would be to only focus on the conventional course and just make one-liners for these problems, otherwise if you would apply these exclusive events in every problem then it would create confusion.
It is not 1/4 it's tending to 1/4 due to its limits and in calculate (1/2)^1.999999999999999999 it's tending to 1/4
In limits we always put nearer values and tabulate the results, if the results are unidirectional and do not fluctuate then we establish the approximate value of the results as the answer, a=2 is not the correct result as when we move towards a=2 , the value alternates between 1/4 and undefined...

Exactly and this is where I take offence on these types of questions. It feels as if the faculty is trying to make the question difficult just for the heck of it cause such conditions could be applied to every single x in the equation and in that case, this becomes a topic of research and not a question which could be asked in a competitive exam especially one as difficult and important as JEE.

Though I am not good at maths, actually I am a weak student In mathematics. I have done graduation in English, but when I saw the thumbnail it attracted me to see the story. And it was really amazing. That concept of limit was good. I had not the idea that even odd power of a negative nos is not defined. Today I learned a new concept. Thank you very much. I understood a little but about the concept why 0 is the right answer.
I am Gate Aspirant and watching this video... What a Concept ❤❤❤❤
simple technique was that we could take log then if we place a=2 inside log value is negative and when a=0 log quantity is positive so 0 compleatly satisfies so answer is 0
I understand this video in one shot.
Thank you sir for this explaination 🙏
Yes
It mean you are great
But the answer can be 2 as well as by defination of limits we can insert the limit of x after removing the singularity in Limits.
Jab 2 ke neighbourhood me not defined hai to overall value bhi 1/4 nahi aaegi.
Jab limit ki value 1/4 bata rakhi hai to wo defined value hai. Means power 2 ke liye di honi chahiye. Na ki uske neighbourhood ke liye jaha pe value 1/4 bhi nahi hogi. 🥴 2 hona chahiye answer to 🥱🥲🥲
It's given in the question that the value is =1/4
Sir, This is urgent, I think this is completely wrong.(please correct me if i am wrong), yes the answer should actually be 0, but this is bcaz limit of composition of functions exists only if the outer function is continuous on the limit of the inner function. limx->a f(x)^g(x) is SOLVED IN THIS FORMAL WAY 👇 ,i.e by taking the natural log ln (limx->a f(x)^g(x)) = limx->a ln (f(x)^g(x)) = limx->a g(x)lnf(x) = limx->a g(x) × limx->a lnf(x)=limx->a g(x) × ln(limx->a f(x))= ln((limx->a f(x)^(limx->a g(x))). Now since natural log function is injective , this becomes equivalent to the simple case law lim x->a f(x)^g(x)= (limx->a f(x))^(limx->a g(x)) ----(i) . BUT OBVIOUSLY FROM THE WORK ABOVE WE CAN SEE THAT THIS IDENTITY WILL ONLY WORK FOR POSITIVE VALUES OF (limx->a f(x)) BECAUSE ONLY THEN THE NATURAL LOG FUNCTION IS DEFINED AND AlSO CONTINUOUS IN R. In the problem we see that for a=2 (limx->1 f(x)) is negative hence identity (i) doesnt work now and we cannot solve the limit in R. Obviously for a=0 it works as it gives +ve value for (limx->1 f(x)) AND Therefore THAT IS WHY a=2 is wrong and a=0 is the correct answer. Also , this aside a much much more important point to note is that the explanation itself is completely wrong, lim x->a f(x)=L , means that as x is getting closer closer to 'a', f(x) is getting closer and closer to which EXACT value. Yes x never reaches a, and thats why nor is f(x) alone equal to L, BUT, the expression "lim x->a f(x)" is exactly equal to L that's why there is an equal sign in the first case. This is very imp to understand.

if a=2
Then the numerator a(1-x)+sin(x-1) will be greater than the denominator x-1+sin(x-1) and squaring it will result a number greater than 1 and not a fraction hence we can rule it out
how?
Thinking through logarithm will give a much more satisfying understanding of rejection of the answer 2.

I like your explanation, but there is a much easier way of explaining it, as follows:
The function k^x
-- is continuous throughout the range of values of x when k>0.
-- is discretely defined for only positive integers when k < 0.
Since lim(x->1) √x+1 is not an integer, only positive k solution is acceptable.
Great explanation. Maths really is amazing. And why am I watching this video as a final year MBBS student is a bigger mystery.

Sir I have a doubt regarding that why can't we treat differentials as algebraic expressions ; and when can we treat them like that. It would be huge if explain it in a video. No-one is explaining it 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
As far as I understand your question you are asking that why can't y' or y'' be treated as algebraic expressions. This is because d/dx or d^2/dx^2 are operators. They operate on a variable depending on x. They transform the function from one space to another. dy/dx doesn't mean multiplying y by d/dx. There are also integral operators like (Laplace, fourier, mellin) transformation where you have to integrate a function multiplied by a weight factor (usually exponential) within a certain interval. Also the operators which we're dealing with are all linear.

(-1/2)^1.9999.....inf. or (1/2)^1.9999......inf. Doesn't mean √-1/2 or √1/2 . Concept of imaginary no is not applying here only the negative nature of the no is causing the result to be 0. Because for all the values of X tending to 1, the term -1/2^1.9999999.....inf9 or 2.000000....inf1 wolud be a negetive term and therefore the answer should be A= 0
Thanku so much sir
but when a=0, then also power is tending to 2. Then cannot be equal to 1/4.
There's nothing dangerous it's just going towards COMPLEX. Terminology should be right to understand concepts
Right lol. And according to me, one more thing is that applying the concept of complex analysis would take this problem to a different kind of solution.
Why are we confining our limit discussion only to the real domain when it is not explicitly said in the problem? a=2 is also a perfectly valid solution because whenever the answer becomes complex, it is quite easy to see upon careful application of De Moivre's theorem that the imaginary part of that complex number tends to 0 in the neighborhood of 2 and the real part tends to 1/2?

इसमे क्या बडी बात थी. Limits मे तो ये important होता है. जिन्होने नोट्स मे नहीं दिया उन्हे लगा होगा ये आसन है
The concept is very simple.
Limit not defined at that point.
Limit is not needed to be defined everywhere, just simply revise your concept from Limit chapter.
( Revise concept left and right hand limit to understand that limit can't be defined always, means you can't put limit value exactly all the time)

Sol :-
If we put Lim x-> 1
So considering x=1 to get largest number
So in every terms we put x=1
lim x->1 [a(1-1) + sin (1-1) ]²
---------------
[ (1-1) + sin(1-1)]²
a(1-1) =0
Both sin term got sin(0) which also equals to =0
And rest 1-1=0
So the answer is 0
0/0 is approaching to 0 on the collapsed number line
Either you haven't studied limits or you didn't understood limits , the conclusion you wrote in the last line is wrong

sir vaise power ko evolve kar ke 2 likhna hi galat hai because limit x-> a f(x)^g(x) ≠ limit x->a f(x) ^ (x->a g(x) ) so pahle log le ke product me lana padega .. usse a=2 solution me aayega hi nahi sirf a=0 aayega ..
wish i could send my solution pic .
Tried hard writing here :
x->1 ( (-ax+sin(x-1)+a) / (x+sin(x-1)-1))^1+✓x = 1/4
taking log on both sides
log( lim x->1 (-ax + a + sin(x-1) / (x-1 + sin(x-1) ) =(1/2) log(1/4) = log(1/2)
apply LHL rule.
=> log ( (-a +1) / 2) = log(1/2)
=>( -a +1)/2 = 1/2 => a=0
Thank you sir for easy explanation.....!!!🤓
Sir as you explained that (-ive) to power tending to 2 is nearly not equal to 1/4
Then how (+1/2) power tending to 2 is eqal to 1/4..
Negative number to odd Power is undefined
Brilliant expression 👍👍
Sir bilkul samajh Gaya 👍
At the same time, the limit of a continuous function at a point is just the actual value of the function, right?
A=2 put krne par function define nhi hoga kyo ki 0 rakhne par a= 1 aayega 2 rakhne par (-1)*2 aayega jo ki function k concept se define nhi ho Raha hai isliye iska ans 0 hai
As x tends to 1, x1.
For any value of a between 0 & 1,
But (-1)^y is undefined for non integer value of y ( y is just less than 2) .
For a=0,
LHS = {-(0-1)}^y = 1^y = 1= RHS
So only value of "a" for x limits 1 will be "0".
As x tends to 1, x
Explained nicely, but sir we can understand this with log easily like if you have f(x)^g(x) and you take log than f(x) should be greater than 0 and hence a=0 satisfies that condition. Correct me if I am wrong.
Sir pura majabut dil hai and sir bahot jyada achha explain kiya hai pata chal gaya and sir me aapke pahle batch accelerate se hu isliye fan to hu hi
Here after the controversial physics question of JEE 2023😂
Sir this explanation is right.. But my point is that if we take LHL and RHL of the limit then, we will put h tends to 0 at the end. This type of limit we use many times during calculation. Both LHL = RHL is also coming. So, this is very much debatable. In many questions of limit, we come across such type of questions and we put the limit simply. But here, just to take the 0 under consideration, the justification is correct.
Maza ageya sir.
Dil garden garden hogaya.
Sir you can take a log on both sides and after that split limit on both sides because both limits exist and you will observe that domain of a is [0,1) so you can conclude that a=0
Me to bio vala hu fir bhi samaj aa gaya

Science students ko easily samajh aa gaya...main aisa bilkul nahi keh raha ki arts ya com ke students ko samajh mein nahi ayega
itna karne se accha purre f(x) ko (e) power (log (K)) ke form me convert kar lo , a=2 par K ki value negative aayega so a=0 pe hi K= positive
Hc Verma sir se kisi ne puchha ki ek din me kitne questions karna chahiye jee ke liye to unhone bola ki ek question enough hai agar aap ek question le kar baithe jo ki aapse nahi ho raha hai and uspe aap 5 ghanta laga diye and without kisi ke help se solve kar liya to aapka brain ka thinking cell active hoga and aap is tarah ka question exam me solve kar loge and aap apne life ke tough problem bhi solve kar loge
So i think this is the logic about the questions:-As the limit is not approaching towards so it is apporating to the smallest individual points (1.2 1.3) so 2 .we left with 0 which is an integer.. hence forth this 0 is the corr answer
