I found that wasn't the problem with mine, although one is stiffer than the other. Take the cover off the roller and remove the roller. Check for hair build-up on the very end of the roller. Mine is a month old and had a mass of hair stuck there. No problems after removing it.

Brilliant! After taking apart the bottom roller completely and cleaning out all the hair and debris, I still had error 2. After seeing your video, I removed the two side brushes, added 100% silicone lube and put the brushes back on. Now the machine runs perfectly. No babysitting necessary!

So many comments which is awesome! Stubbled on this video searching for some parts. Most of what I read hits right on the money so I may be repeating a lot. Everyone may be affected by a different part of the over all issue with vacuums. Build up of dirt. I've been repairing, selling and buying many versions for the last couple years. This issues can cause you a couple errors like #2 (shark).
    The Main causes are:
    - Dirty sensors.
    -Stuck/not freely moving bumper.
    - Dirty/old side rotating brushes. The motor and cylinder crevice is dirty/clogged, slowing the brushes causing resistance.
    - Dirty/old rolling brush. The motor and cylinder crevice is dirty/clogged, slowing the rolling brush causing resistance.
-Dirty wheels and wheel wells causing resistance.
-The most obvious is stuck items in these areas.
Clean your sensors often as they cause the most malfunctions. I have self empty robots so usually do it when emptying the base. It really depends on the cleaning environment . I have dogs so more often is better. I have no issues with my scheduled cleanings by doing this. Use soft cloths to avoid scratching. None harsh cleaners or warm water I would recommend. For example I used a soft terry cloth and tv screen cleaner.
The bumper is an easy fix. Moving it manually while the vacuum is off to break up debris . Cleaning the areas where it moves. It does come off with a few screws on most models if you really need a good cleaning or to replace the sensor beneath most bumpers.
For all the brushes and wheels. Pretty much the same... they need cleaned and/or replaced. Resistance beyond its normal threshold causes malfunctions and can lead to shorting the longevity of any vacuum. I find using a shop vacuum, cloth, tooth brush , or air gun/blower does the trick in no time. If you have encountered a very dirty vacuum with possible liquid , mud, or clunks of dirt and hair, a deep clean is best. This takes about 10 minutes depending on your skill or knowledge how to take the proper things apart. Super easy to find online and hard to mess up. Taking off panels is a great way to get this clean done and it back to new and less errors . Most only have a few for the main area panels and less the 10 screws total. If it had a lot of liquid make sure you dry it out the best you can before putting it together and using it again. They can take a lot of abuse but liquids cause rust, degradation of of some of the plastic/rubber parts and of course electrical problems. (mop and combo versions have a seals that prevent most of this) Also vacuums , especially older or high use ones sometimes need a little lubrication in the motors and crevices. Usually this also helps clean the gunk out too! Just make sure you are not voiding your warranties . There are many out there that work. I usually use blaster dry lube, helps clean easy to get into gear holes and tight crevices and does not make a mess. I find this the easiest solution to most issues. Judging by the sound of the shark in the video (which seems normal) I think cleaning or lubrication is the solution .
    :)

I just fixed this issue on a friend's iRobot. You have to take it ALL apart to get to the drive units for the side brushes. They are underneath the main board. 3 screws in each unit, pop the gearbox cover off carefully with a small flat screwdriver, and then you push the drive sprocket down on the motor shaft. It walks up the shaft and causes binding against the next gear in the transmission. Reassemble, and it should work again for a while.

I figured it out thanks to your video! so the one crush that runs tighter, unscrew it, then take the little silver clasp out and bend it open a little more! the reason why it rotates harder is because of this little piece that is too tight on the white plastic part! yay! my vacuum runs again !! thank you so much!

@@felice_picks_sticks lmao I got mine because I got it on Black Friday and it was so cheap vs the regular price. We actually had ours for close to 2 1/2 years before we started having this problem. I think my family's issue is they're half being cheap half being lazy. I have a live in ihss worker that's a family friend, of whom I've asked to do the cleaning out of the self empty bin once a week because we have 3 dogs, a cat, and 3 girls with long hair. She never does. I've asked her to do the maintenance cleaning on the sensors, rollers, etc, but she refuses and says that my dad can do all that. Note: this is a vacuum I bought, and she is supposed to help me with doing the things around the house that I would normally be doing if I were not physically disabled.
My dad, on the other hand: he has done a really good job in taking it apart and using an air duster to blow out the areas you can't really reach, using a shopvac and a small knife to cut hair off rollers etc. He hasn't cleaned the sensors, though. And I explained to him the timeline of the lifespan of the different brushes and rollers, and I'm the one that purchased with my own money a multi-pack of replacement parts that, on that timeline, would last literal years. Despite him not being the one that purchased the replacement parts he will not replace the parts (this again being something I would do if I were able) because he wants to "get the money's worth out of the rollers and the brushes" (it's not even your money!) AND by trying to do that I think he's inadvertently doing more harm than good as the brushes accumulate sticky caked on gunk that can't be easily wiped off, and not even easily visibly seen once you try wiping it off because the cleaning solutions just dilute it and spread it along the bristles so theyll catch on and hold more large debris when spinning that then gets clogged/wrapped up above where they screw in. So by trying to save MY money on the cheap thing he may be causing damage to my very expensive thing, and the other one is no help at all I'll literally ask her "did you empty Steve [our vacuum]'s base today?" Or "did Steve's base get emptied this week" and her response will be "I don't know" or "How am I supposed to know?" Like girl, because I straight up asked you to do this individual thing as a regular task every week, so if you didn't do it, then that's how you know!!!! 😰😣
I've tried telling them both to just FIX it already, it's been months! I stopped my schedule, I've run him multiple times by request- "I didn't see you run him how do I know" 'Let me try cleaning him again" "hey can you run Steve tonight" - and he still gets stuck. 🙄

I have had my IQ Wifi self cleaning robot for two weeks. I tried everything: replaced side brushes, took out the big brush roller and found lots of cat fur tucked in the very end, cleaned it out. Still no luck, so I tried taking out the filter and cleaned it and emptied some cat fur stuck in the filter box too. So much for self cleaning! I empty the dust bin daily. Nothing I tried seems to work which saddens me because I actually really think the suction on this device is awesome and does a great job on hardwood, ceramic and carpet alike! It cleans up pet fur great! We have a husky and two long hair cats and no problems with the cleaning... we just can’t get past this Error 2 Obstruction issue. I called for support but was on hold for 15 mins so I hung up! I guess it’s going back to Costco!

Then I replaced both side brushes after cleaning the housing so that they would be balanced. Both of them spin in the toe-in direction, so it would be more difficult to go one way than the other. Thanks for clueing me in with the side brush issue.

I had this same problem. Called support and this is how they solved.
Remove the long roller brush in the middle by pulling back the 2 grey tabs above it.
Don't just clean out the brush of all the hair rolled around it. The real "issue #2" lies in the endcaps of the long brush. Clean both ends of the roller brush out and replace.
My unit works fine now. Hope this helps someone else out there.

The long roller brush in the middle can throw error code 2 as well. Take it apart and pull all the wound up hair out of the ends. This was my problem. The side rotating brushes are directional motors, so if you manually rotate them the wrong way, you'll feel resistance. It doesn't mean they're blocked, they're just rotating in the opposite direction of their design. They come apart with an allen wrench as well so if you think it's clogged up with hair, mine came off with the smallest wrench I could find.

I had the same error but my brushes seemed to be working fine. I checked all the dumb stuff first. Brushes, filters, dirt, whatnot. The side brushes have more resistance in one direction then another, i noticed you do that in the video. They naturally spin opposite of each other, and one way should have less resistance than spinning the other way. One of my brushes makes a slightly different sound when i spin it, probably gonna crap out eventually but for now its fine. I even charged it fully after it spent all day away from the dock. Still gave the error.
Then i wiped all the sensors with a qtip and now it works fine. We'll see if it acts up in the future.

I have had the same problem with my vacuum. What I found that solved the issue was to take off the side brushes, put WD40 around the plastic the side brushes attach to, than I use a pair of plyers to work the wd 40 down into the machine. Put the side brushes back on and it works.

I’ll try the silicone spray next time, but what I did notice is after a time the side brush seems to get permanently bent and the rubber part of the brush arm seems to rub the floor enough to cause the error. Putting on a nice new straight brush solved the problem for several months (until that brush got bent). I don’t know how to prevent that but a package of brushes will allow me to fix it for some time.

I encountered the same error message and flashing lights. For me the solution was totally different. I found that the self cleaning brush actually had a spool of hair caught in it (underneath the part that comes out with it when you clean it - so it's not noticeable at first). Once I removed the hair the message went away and the vacuum was back to normal. I didn't do anything to the side brushes. Hope this helps.

mine is still not working. It starts with both brushes moving and then after 2-3 minutes it stops. i can't just watch my vacuum like a hawk to see it it needs a little lift, following it everywhere. So annoying because I cannot return/replace it anymore. It was 2019 Christmas present and it was sitting in a box for almost a year. We used it maybe 2 months until this error started happening. Ugh. What is weird, that my Shark is a different model, but it's the same side brush that is experiencing the trouble

I had the same problem, but when I removed the center roller the one side had a huge amount of hair built up. It was on the side where the two screws are. When you remove the bottom guard around the roller you just pull up on the one side and the roller comes out. I would check it out.

Mine is only 2 months old snd had a huge wad of hair on the end of the roller. Now it works fine. It will give the error message if the wheels are not turning or the roller has trouble turning.

My error #2 had nothing to do with the brushes. Hair wrapped tightly around the brush . Had to use small knife to pull it loose and free the brush. Of note - the brush still turned, but not as freely and that set off the error.

I took the actual motor out and found it spun very hard they seem to have compressed the motor casing too tightly on the armature. I did press on the gear side shaft and loosen the prongs that crimp the motor casing and loosen it up. It seems to be working. Not very good on sharks part they did send me a new replacement one I haven't tried it yet. Hopefully the original will keep working.

I was having the same problem this morning. I tried moving the side brushes but didn't work. I got out the owner's guide and looked under troubleshooting. Each error code number will describe the error code light. In my case it was Clean (Blue) + 1 (Red) flashing. The solution said Blockage in the brush roll. Remove any debris from around the brush roll so that it can spin freely. When I checked the brush roll I found an ornament hook! Pulled it out and she is working fine now. Hope this helps!
