Yes, very good video. I have a cammed (Cam Motion Little Chopper) PPV and I'm running a ZL1 converter (2000-2400). My car bucks a little because of this.
Beautiful truck! Just ordered a triple disc 3800 stall for my slammed obs 4x4 blazer with ls turbo 4l80 and wanted to see some real results of comparable vehicles with high stall converters.. thanks for the vid!
The lope is due to in efficiency down low. Cams are just moving the effective power curve in the rpm, or defeating smog reduction attempts by manufacturers(or horsepower restrictions) .... A-la the low horsepower 400ci small blocks.
I just switched from a stock to a jegs 2700. I have a sloppy stage 2 and it was trying to push through at a stop. Now the thing won't even go unless I push it hard
I have the same cam in an LQ4 in my truck with a 4L80E. I put what was supposed to be a 2800 stall converter in it. It only flashes to 2200 via HPT, on drag radials it leaves the line like a flock of turtles. Even in an LQ4, this cam made peak TQ at 4700 RPM. I'll be swapping to a 3400-3800 converter before the end of the year. Awesome truck BTW! I don't think I have seen many others as well-executed as yours.
@@GreaseMonkeyTV I ended up with a great deal on an FTI 3200 - it's much better. Unfortunately too hot for any more track testing. But, initially it 60 foots almost two tenths better than the previous converter. In about 4-5 months I'll revisit things and see if I can squeeze a little more out of it. I did manage to go 13.000 @ 105.84 MPH on that tight converter. The -787 DA weather helped, but it still didn't 60 foot very well. If I didn't daily my truck, I think I would have went with a 4000 stall to be honest.
Great explanation on everything!! I went back to see where you were taking measurements from and to and all I could make out was the fly wheel. Where were you measuring to?
Back of the flexplate surface to the front of the converter mount tabs. Measure while the converter is pushed all the way against the transmission. This tells you how much shimming is needed to space the converter from the trans.
Lol, I love the legs and Jack! I have been doing that for years and years. I'm guessing many others do too. Just never seen someone else do it. 😄 good advice on converters. FTI builds a good converter. ATI, A1 also. BTW I drive regularly with a 5000+ ATI 8 inch converter in a 71 Nova that runs low 10s at the track, the way I drive on the street(closed coarse in Mexico) 😎
I drive with a 3200 stall from circle D on my Sierra, well used to getting my transmission rebuilt at Grinn racing, but you get used to it on the street. The hesitation is like getting in first with a manual car it’s not too bad. If you would have dropped diameters you probably would have liked the drive ability better. That looks like a 278mm right?

That idle surge can be tuned out. My TSP cam in my G8 is bigger than the Chopacabra cam and mine doesn't surge like that. I reduced the chop significantly with the tune (I tuned it myself).
