I love it too! I feel like they're the muses? Hoyeon is cupid and Tony is Athena? Because they keep dancing when hoyeon comes back to watch them at the end of side B... like they're telling a story, in the end. "What ending are you headed to" they wanted to see where the story will go, so they watched her without interaction? Or maybe they granted her the ability to become human as well to see what would happen. It's such a great MV

It's a gender reversal of the story between Cupid and Psyche with Hoyeon as Cupid. I think the members might be the tellers of the story since the actual tale of Cupid and Psyche is told by a 3rd figure in the story who heard it from someone else who heard it from someone else, etc.

Cool With You 뮤비를 해석해보았다. 신우석 감독님께서 맡은 뮤직비디오들 모두 작금의 사태에 관련한 함축적인 의미가 많길래, Cool With You도 그렇지 않을까? 하는 생각에 여러 번 돌려봤다. 돌이켜보면 뮤직비디오 공개 당시 디토, 오엠지, 쿨윗유 이 세 개가 가장 이해가 안 되고 난해하다고 생각했었지. 그냥 이렇게 저렇게 추리해보는 것 좋아하는 한 명의 덕후가 심심풀이로 해보는 궁예질이라고 생각해주시길. 우선 신우석 감독은 멜론 인터뷰에서 해당 뮤직비디오가 프시케와 에로스에 대한 이야기라고 언급한 적이 있다. 정호연은 에로스, 흑인은 프시케, 그리고 side B에서 등장하는 양조위는 아프로디테이다. 정호연(에로스)은 사랑을 이어주는 역할을 한다. 그녀는 흑인 배우(프시케)에게 반하게 되고 신의 지위를 버려가며 사랑을 택한다. 하지만 양조위(아프로디테)의 등장으로 그녀의 사랑은 무너지고 만다. 일단 나는 다음과 같이 해석했다. 정호연 = 에로스 = 민희진 흑인 배우 = 프시케 = ’뉴진스‘라는 그룹 양조위 = 아프로디테 = 방시혁 (하이브) 일반적인 옷을 입은 뉴진스 멤버들 = 연습생 시절 멤버들 천사 옷을 입은 뉴진스 멤버들 = 아이돌로서의 멤버들 side A 뮤비에서 검정색 옷을 입은 정호연은 타인의 사랑을 이어주고 다닌다. 검정색 옷은 회사의 통솔 안에서 행동하는 상태를 의미한다. 또, 타인의 사랑을 이어주는 것은 이제껏 민희진이 해왔던 디렉팅 업무로 생각했다. 아이돌(정호연이 따라 다니는 대상들)을 끊임없이 관찰하고 분석해서 회사(그 대상과 이어지는 상대)가 원하는 이미지에 맞게 프로듀싱하고 이어주는 것이다. 정호연은 흑인 배우와 사랑에 빠지고 계속해서 그를 관찰한다. 하지만 흑인의 눈에는 정호연은 보이지 않는다. 나는 이를 민희진이 처음 하이브에 들어와 뉴진스를 기획하기 시작할 당시와 연결지었다. 사랑하지만 직접적으로 닿을 수 없는 상태가 아니었을까? 어도어 독립 이전에는 하이브 측의 방해로 자신이 뽑은 연습생들을 볼 수조차 없었다고 하니까. 뮤비 중간중간 나오는 일반 옷을 입은 멤버들은 각자 정호연을 쳐다보며 한 마디씩 가사를 건넨다. 이는 연습생 시절 민희진을 바라보며 하나 둘 모이게 된 멤버들이 그 당시 그녀에게 가졌을 생각들이라고 보였다. 자신을 알아봐주어서 고맙고(혜인), 같이 좋은 미래를 만들어나가고 싶고(다니엘). 그런데 어떤 결말에 도달할지 모르는 상태(민지)인 것이다. 이전까지는 멤버들을 인지하지 못했던 정호연은 2:42 하니를 인식한다. 하니는 “Everywhere baby say you’re mine”이라고 하며 정호연의 사랑을 모두에게 알리길 바란다. 즉 뉴진스 그룹에 있어 민희진의 주체적인 프로듀싱을 원하는 것이다. 정호연은 흑인 배우와 사랑을 나누려고 하지만, 거울에는 그녀의 모습이 비치지 않는다. 하이브 안에서 발목이 묶인 상태로는 민희진이 주체적인 프로듀싱을 하지 못한다는 것을 암시하는 것일까? 그리고 side A의 마지막, 정호연은 비를 맞으며 검정색 옷을 벗는다. 이는 민희진이 하이브에서 어도어로 레이블을 분리해 나오는 것으로 생각했다. 뮤비의 초반에 정호연은 우산을 쓰며 비를 피한다. (디토 절망편에서도 반희수가 우산을 쓰는 장면이 있다.) 그런데 여기서는 비를 맞으면서, 시련인 줄 알면서도 그 속으로 직접 뛰어드는 것으로 보인다. side B에서 주체적인 사랑을 시작한 정호연, 그리고 CBO로서 프로듀싱을 맡게 된 민희진. side A에서는 곁에서 걱정스럽게 지켜보기만 하던 천사 옷의 뉴진스 멤버들은 side B에서 아이돌로서 퍼포먼스를 보여준다. 즉, 본격적인 아이돌 활동이 시작된 것이다. 하지만 양조위의 등장으로 이는 물거품이 되고 만다. 흑인 배우는 다시 눈이 가려지고, 정호연은 고난에 마주한다. 여기서 양조위는 방시혁처럼 보였다. 양조위 배우님께는 죄송하지만 코가 둥글둥글 크다는 생각에 그만… 흠흠. 하여튼 연습생 시절처럼 하이브에서 민희진과 뉴진스를 떨어뜨려 놓으려는 시도가 계속해서 있었다는 것이겠지. 정호연은 절망한 듯 보이지만, 뮤직비디오의 끝자락. Get Up의 노래와 퍼포먼스가 나오며 상황이 반전된다. 뉴진스는 “내가 너에게 중요하다면 나를 만나러 와줘.“라는 가사를 속삭이며, 민희진이 프로듀싱해온 퍼포먼스들을 다시 한 번 그녀에게 되뇌이는 듯 한데… 정호연, 즉 민희진은 이를 지켜보며 꺾이지 않고 다시 “Get up”한다. 그리고 다시 한 번 그녀의 사랑을 쟁취하려고 나간다. 한 가지 의문인 점은 다른 멤버들은 다 일반 옷을 입고 노래를 불렀는데, 해린이는 왜 안 나왔을까? 그건 아직 잘 모르겠다.

In the Greek myth, Eros (Cupid) only came to Psyche at night when she couldn't see him. In the mv, the man is Psyche, asleep, and Hoyeon's Cupid. I think the earlier scene with the two people kissing in the elevator also shows her influence as Cupid. Then again these are just my thoughts after watching once. There's probably so much more to decipher...

my jaw dropped when I saw Hoyeon! she is ethereally pretty and impossibly tall, perfect for the focus of this video. I like seeing our girls tucked off to the side a bit and just narrating the story from afar, reminds me a little of Ditto the way they're part of it yet it's not actually about them this time.

It's a gender reversal of the story between Cupid and Psyche with Hoyeon as Cupid. I think the members might be the tellers of the story since the actual tale of Cupid and Psyche is told by a 3rd figure in the story who heard it from someone else who heard it from someone else, etc.

신우석 감독님께서 맡은 뮤직비디오들 모두 작금의 사태에 관련한 함축적인 의미가 많길래, Cool With You도 그렇지 않을까? 하는 생각에 여러 번 돌려봤다. 돌이켜보면 뮤직비디오 공개 당시 디토, 오엠지, 쿨윗유 이 세 개가 가장 이해가 안 되고 난해하다고 생각했었지. 그냥 이렇게 저렇게 추리해보는 것 좋아하는 한 명의 덕후가 심심풀이로 해보는 궁예질이라고 생각해주시길.
우선 신우석 감독은 멜론 인터뷰에서 해당 뮤직비디오가 프시케와 에로스에 대한 이야기라고 언급한 적이 있다. 정호연은 에로스, 흑인은 프시케, 그리고 side B에서 등장하는 양조위는 아프로디테이다. 정호연(에로스)은 사랑을 이어주는 역할을 한다. 그녀는 흑인 배우(프시케)에게 반하게 되고 신의 지위를 버려가며 사랑을 택한다. 하지만 양조위(아프로디테)의 등장으로 그녀의 사랑은 무너지고 만다.
일단 나는 다음과 같이 해석했다.
정호연 = 에로스 = 민희진
흑인 배우 = 프시케 = ’뉴진스‘라는 그룹
양조위 = 아프로디테 = 방시혁 (하이브)
일반적인 옷을 입은 뉴진스 멤버들 = 연습생 시절 멤버들
천사 옷을 입은 뉴진스 멤버들 = 아이돌로서의 멤버들
side A 뮤비에서 검정색 옷을 입은 정호연은 타인의 사랑을 이어주고 다닌다. 검정색 옷은 회사의 통솔 안에서 행동하는 상태를 의미한다. 또, 타인의 사랑을 이어주는 것은 이제껏 민희진이 해왔던 디렉팅 업무로 생각했다. 아이돌(정호연이 따라 다니는 대상들)을 끊임없이 관찰하고 분석해서 회사(그 대상과 이어지는 상대)가 원하는 이미지에 맞게 프로듀싱하고 이어주는 것이다.
정호연은 흑인 배우와 사랑에 빠지고 계속해서 그를 관찰한다. 하지만 흑인의 눈에는 정호연은 보이지 않는다. 나는 이를 민희진이 처음 하이브에 들어와 뉴진스를 기획하기 시작할 당시와 연결지었다. 사랑하지만 직접적으로 닿을 수 없는 상태가 아니었을까? 어도어 독립 이전에는 하이브 측의 방해로 자신이 뽑은 연습생들을 볼 수조차 없었다고 하니까.
뮤비 중간중간 나오는 일반 옷을 입은 멤버들은 각자 정호연을 쳐다보며 한 마디씩 가사를 건넨다. 이는 연습생 시절 민희진을 바라보며 하나 둘 모이게 된 멤버들이 그 당시 그녀에게 가졌을 생각들이라고 보였다. 자신을 알아봐주어서 고맙고(혜인), 같이 좋은 미래를 만들어나가고 싶고(다니엘). 그런데 어떤 결말에 도달할지 모르는 상태(민지)인 것이다. 이전까지는 멤버들을 인지하지 못했던 정호연은 2:42 하니를 인식한다. 하니는 “Everywhere baby say you’re mine”이라고 하며 정호연의 사랑을 모두에게 알리길 바란다. 즉 뉴진스 그룹에 있어 민희진의 주체적인 프로듀싱을 원하는 것이다.
정호연은 흑인 배우와 사랑을 나누려고 하지만, 거울에는 그녀의 모습이 비치지 않는다. 하이브 안에서 발목이 묶인 상태로는 민희진이 주체적인 프로듀싱을 하지 못한다는 것을 암시하는 것일까?
그리고 side A의 마지막, 정호연은 비를 맞으며 검정색 옷을 벗는다. 이는 민희진이 하이브에서 어도어로 레이블을 분리해 나오는 것으로 생각했다. 뮤비의 초반에 정호연은 우산을 쓰며 비를 피한다. (디토 절망편에서도 반희수가 우산을 쓰는 장면이 있다.) 그런데 여기서는 비를 맞으면서, 시련인 줄 알면서도 그 속으로 직접 뛰어드는 것으로 보인다.
side B에서 주체적인 사랑을 시작한 정호연, 그리고 CBO로서 프로듀싱을 맡게 된 민희진. side A에서는 곁에서 걱정스럽게 지켜보기만 하던 천사 옷의 뉴진스 멤버들은 side B에서 아이돌로서 퍼포먼스를 보여준다. 즉, 본격적인 아이돌 활동이 시작된 것이다.
하지만 양조위의 등장으로 이는 물거품이 되고 만다. 흑인 배우는 다시 눈이 가려지고, 정호연은 고난에 마주한다. 여기서 양조위는 방시혁처럼 보였다. 양조위 배우님께는 죄송하지만 코가 둥글둥글 크다는 생각에 그만… 흠흠. 하여튼 연습생 시절처럼 하이브에서 민희진과 뉴진스를 떨어뜨려 놓으려는 시도가 계속해서 있었다는 것이겠지.
정호연은 절망한 듯 보이지만, 뮤직비디오의 끝자락. Get Up의 노래와 퍼포먼스가 나오며 상황이 반전된다. 뉴진스는 “내가 너에게 중요하다면 나를 만나러 와줘.“라는 가사를 속삭이며, 민희진이 프로듀싱해온 퍼포먼스들을 다시 한 번 그녀에게 되뇌이는 듯 한데… 정호연, 즉 민희진은 이를 지켜보며 꺾이지 않고 다시 “Get up”한다. 그리고 다시 한 번 그녀의 사랑을 쟁취하려고 나간다.
한 가지 의문인 점은 다른 멤버들은 다 일반 옷을 입고 노래를 불렀는데, 해린이는 왜 안 나왔을까? 그건 아직 잘 모르겠다.

@@soominssi7353 I think, from the painting, it's Cupid and Pysche's love story, with the actress Hoyeon as Cupid? In the Greek myth, Eros (Cupid) only came to Psyche at night when she couldn't see him. In the mv, the man is Psyche, asleep, and Hoyeon's Cupid. I think the earlier scene with the two people kissing in the elevator also shows her influence as Cupid.
Then again these are just my thoughts after watching once. There's probably so much more to decipher...

정호연이 아마 사람들을 이어주는 그런 큐피드같은 역할을 하고, 엘베씬 보면 눈빛만 쏘면 사람들이 사랑에 빠지는 모습이 보인다. 그리고 한 남자 따라가서 밖으로 나올때 그 남자의 우산을 자기가 챙겨나와 두 사람이 한 우산을 쓸 수 밖에 없게 한다든지 해서 사람들을 잇는 역할을 한다. 그런데 자신이 이어준 사람들의 사랑이 차갑게 식는 과정을 오랜 기간 보다보니 사랑을 이어주는 역할임에도 약간 회의적인 감정을 느끼면 정말 의무적으로 일을 하는 느낌. 너무 잘 표현함.
그렇게 자기 일을 계속해가다 박물관에서 한 그림을 보게되고 그 옆에 있던 남자에게 사랑을 느끼게 되면서 사람들의 눈에 원래 보이지 않던 자신의 허물을 벗고 그 남자 앞에 서기로 결심하는!

난 아이돌을 좋아했기에, 옛날의 반복되는 가볍고 비슷한 아이돌 뮤직비디오의 컨샙과 연출에 지쳐 요즘 다시 변해가는 아이돌도 선입견을 끼고 보았다.
하지만, 뉴진스의 Cool With You, 에스파의 슈펴노바, 세븐틴 마에스트로, 이 세곡이 내 선입견을 산산조각내는 예술성을 보였다.
