Well to be fair you don't have to glance around your bedroom looking for brown people holding their backpack to their chest. That and there's a woman who brings me tea and sandwiches twice a day who answers to 'mum'.
glad they actually care about preserving the older building style/materials in modern times, instead of ripping it all out and replacing it with a 'modern' look. new stations sure, but dont erase history. refurbish old works and bring them back to life, as they are doing. love it. crazy the same factory that made the tile 100 years ago is still around to make that same tile again by hand
I sent this to Transport for London. They thought it was brilliant, and they were going to put it in all their trains, just above the windows. But in the end they decided that it was just Tube ad.
It's time for it. The first season was 2002, 2nd seson was 2004, this (3rd) season was filmed in 2007 (Except for the "Under Attack" episodes), then there was "The Tube (2012)" on BBC and then "The Tube: Going Underground" in 2017. I think it's time for a new one, if they want to keep it as a one season once every 5 or so years.
this episode was released in 2003, sixteen years ago, that was probably state of the art cgi back then (for what a standard laptop can achieve back then)
*Well, this is the end, here’s to another enjoyable binge of this delightfully splendid series!. I hope to enjoy it again in another few years. EDIT 3; it’s 2024 July 18th I genuinely really enjoy this series! This episode is a favourite, especially the parts where Jason Collin’s is in it he’s very interesting:)
I'm sure they still had that 1938 stock going when I was young in the 70s& 80s. I seem to remember they still had a Guard working the doors and they used to place a metal bar across the carriage to stop passengers alighting from the door they were at. I think I used to get on them at King's cross! They were a very rough ride but the seats were v.comfy !
I remember the old stock running on the Central Line when I was a child in the 1950's. The lighting inside the trains was a bit dim with regular light bulbs inside light shades as I remember! They were all red in colour on the outside. Yes, I also remember the guard who opened and closed the doors. When they were replaced I was amazed at the new fluorescent lighting as a child!
17:45 shows why having a good police presence is invaluable. If even a small fight broke out where i live (very few police) it would only end when someone is seriously hurt and someone 'wins' the fight.
I know this is probably quite a big ask, but do you think it would be possible to get licencing to upload the newer Tube series from 2012? I've been wanting to watch that series for ages, but it's no longer broadcast or put on iPlayer because it's old now.
London underground is the world's best train service no question about it. May would have sacrifice their own lives inoder make this engaging master peice to grate success. Also I shall be thankful if old picture of hard work is displayed in tube stations to honor them.
My late father used to work in the, what was, hospital area, during the war. He used to joke about the ghosts. But I got the impression it was all a bit of a laugh, even when they were down there.
The manager works 16 hours a day 6 or 7 days a week, and he’ll be salaried as well so won’t be getting paid for working all those hours. He’s obviously completely job drunk, how very sad when your life is consumed by your job and you can’t even see it!
2:24 Haha no need to walk to his new work place at the other stations, just hop on a tube with those tubs and take them to Waterloo and go back and forth!
LONDON UNDERGROUND ARE RESTORING A 192X'S Q STOCK DISTRICT LINE ELECTRIC UNIT TRAIN TO RUN ON SPECIAL TRIPS ON SURFACE L/U LINES OF THE LAST SUCH TRAINS CEASED SERVICE 1971..
12:50 what is this man saying ? host lighting ? no idea what he's saying. Can anyone understand his description of the lighting that he is saying is being removed. (he has accent) Please?
Church House Lighting I believe. Pendant style, individual lamp units, often in ornate, lantern-esque housings. They look nice, but don't give as good a light as fluorescent tube lighting, which most underground stations (and by extension most commercial buildings) have.
Really interesting. How old is this video? The District Line train interior near the end of the video shows this goes back a bit, as well as the fact that Kings Cross St. Pancras station was being redeveloped at the time.
They are not modernising they are making it look more old by replacing the old tiles with the same colour and design just how the were. How is that modernising. They also did the same to my local station as well.
I understand what youre saying but as a tiler that 'old' style of tiling using white, green and black 'metro' tiles is very much coming back into fashion domestically and commercially. Not for everyone but it does look nice.
Probably because the lical drug barons have vandalised it. When I used to have to go to that area, we called it satans shit house. And it doesn't look any better now.
A very interesting and informative film, however, once again I am not surprised that it takes so long to refurbish a station, and not even a major job, more of a facelift, but starting at 1am and finishing again at 5am, not just finishing but cleared up and of site with every bit of equipment, so basically, as long as they get onto site on time, they get a maximum of 2 hours work done, because it must take at least an hour to set up and another to clear up and vacate. Why don’t they stagger the work, when possible, e.g close part of the platform and re-tile it, then move on to the next section, and so on, for the things that need the line to be closed could be done earlier at night, close the station early by making the last train earlier, and replacing it with buses so the workers can get far more done in one go, and probably cost less as well, I am damn sure I wouldn’t work for a company if I could only get paid for 4 hours per shift, so I expect the workers get paid for a full 8 hours, at TFLs cost, and ultimately the passengers who face large ticket price increase to cover the extra labour costs. Also, why take everything back out every night, break the scaffold down into single pieces and store it on the platform, along with anything else that doesn’t cause a safety hazard, or is easily half inched, in a cordoned of area. Seems logical to me, but I am sure some underground operations buff will put me right. To me it’s just atypical of British organisational competence, or lack there off, sorry but it’s true, just look at the gridlock on British roads on bank holidays, road works everywhere, and deliberately done at the time, why?? Answer, no f...ing idea, and winter weather, 1/2 inch of snow and the country grinds to a halt, why??, Answer, incompetent planning and organisation of snow/ice clearing equipment, not to mention the idiots stuck in their vehicles just because they ignore weather warnings, thus ensuring that emergency services are put under more strain than necessary and snow clearing/gritting equipment can’t operate properly, that is of course if and when it’s deployed, and to think that the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 once ruled over a vast empire, and now we can’t even paint an underground station without cocking it up, geese.
