A big Thank you to Amy! She has definitely inspired me to travel to China, experience the cuisine and enjoy the "outside of my comfort zone". I just came back from Da Li a week ago and the mountain range that skirts the city and the lake (er hai) is phenomenal. To all Blondies fans old and new, a must to visit. Ohhh I would so love to visit this fungi market! I absolutely love eating and studying mushrooms. I’ve recently gotten into foraging and identifying them. I’ve also read about a special mushroom from Yunnan called “xiao ren ren” which makes you see little people after eaten😅! And you’re right Amy, some mushrooms are psychoactive when eaten raw/dried. After cooking though, the psychoactive compounds are gone. The teeny tiniest bite of a raw one won’t make you see anything though. It’s much too small of an amount to have any effects, so don’t worry! Not sure if you’ve heard of her, but if you could do a collab with Dianxi Xiaoge, she is incredible at mushroom foraging and is from Yunnan! She’s a wonderful cook as well😊

Fun fact about the timer, I was told that they've started employing such methods because even when told very clearly to wait a set amount of time, people still get mushroom poisoning every year because they can't wait and start eating too early. Some restaurants even let you wait at the table until they boiled the mushrooms enough before they bring it out.
Mushroom hotpot sounds amazing to my, I love all kinds of mushrooms! ❤ This was a super interesting episode. I often see mushrooms from china in Germany, so it was very interesting to see the details behind it.
