Another superb video. I dont think you guys get enough credit. You are one of the greatest things to happen to the hobby. I have 35 years experience, starting with undergravel filters in all their glory to a 10,000 litre Sps tank. I am sought out for my knowledge but you guys never, ever fail to teach me something. The controlled methods you use have given what must be the most ambiguous hobby ever, some foundations we can all work from. Up untill your efforts this hobby was almost purely run on anecdotal evidence. Thank you very much!
Gents, you should always have the cord vertical! Pretty sure this is in the instructions and something that I learned. If it is not vertical, you will eventually disconnect the two and the outside unit will separate and bang against the wall and eventually crack. I have had this happen twice. I was instructed to always keep the cord vertical and above the unit. This often happens in feed mode when the motor slows down.
Hello, I have a 36" x 22" x 22" bare bottom aquarium, I want to put them on the back of the aquarium. Do you think two mp 10's is sufficient with respect to plenty of flow or should I get the next one up? Thank you for your awesome videos.
Yea, I WILL buy a backup battery from Ecotech when they make one that lasts more than a year and doesn’t get so hot it almost starts a fire when it does go out.
I have a 3/4” thick acrylic 90 gallon and want to get a MP40 for it but I’m worried about the thickness since it’s the max thickness for the MP40, is there any issues with the magnets being disconnected when you turn the pump off if it’s at it’s mac thickness? TIA!
My biggest complaint about using Vortec pumps at the max thickness is that you can easily bump them and have them fall off the glass. If you're at the max thickness, I would opt for the larger size. While it is more expensive, I think you'll be happier in the long run.
Thanks for the content! Love all your videos, learnt so much. Did you mean 3m vhb tape? Removal looks like it might be difficult, any tips for removal or alternative tape suggestions? I feel the white tape on the standard attachments is a bit of a design oversight
Thanks For this! Wouldnt it be cool if some of these stream pump manufacturers would make pimp my pump parts which would allow one to disquise the pump as a Sea Urchent, Coral or something... 🤔😆
The flow pattern from each of those pumps is rather unique with the Gyre being more of a thin sheet flow pattern and the VorTech pumps being more cone-like. For that reason, not one is better than the other. It depends on how the pump will be used and your tank's specific flow needs 😀
Can I add a mp 10 with my mp40 and still have it work with my battery backup? I bought a tank used and the guy put a mp40 in a 90 gallon tank I want to have 1 on each side but one mp40 is overkill (and really expensive) on on a 90
I have 4 of the original MP40EW pumps and have spent DAYS trying to get them to connect!!! I really hope the new QD models have this sorted out because the original ones are total garbage in the connectivety to the app department.
@@BRStv Thanks for the reply.. I have a small 40 Gal so i guess the smallest or the middle model is what i need. Looking at some of the reviews it might be a gamble. They say the wetsides are slipping.. I realize that the vinegar problem/rotting might be the cause of the user..

I have a 4 ft x 2 ft long tank. I don't think putting them in the back would work as well as on the sides because of the short width of the tank. It will end up blasting my hammers etc.
Technically, it's rated for up to 9.5mm glass, but we've used it on slightly thicker glass without major problems. Just note that the dry and wet sides are going to be easier to knock off, so be sure to secure the dry side in place if you're going to try this.
I have an old or at least I had one, do they lose their magnetic strength, I could not keep my old MP10 on an IM Lagoon 25, so then I tried it on my 7 gallon cube, it would not set with the wet side, so I throw it away.
@@porreca30 Yeah I do not know why, but I could not get it to couple it just vibrated, it would couple dry but not in the tank. It seems the magnet was just too weak, I used to use it. But alas it is in the trash.
I just had this happen. Try disassembling the wet side completely and clean it thoroughly. It helped enough to keep the dry side from repeatedly falling off.
If your MP 40 makes noise, that’s because it needs a complete redesign. But just buy more heads. And then those will make noise after six or seven months. And what genius engineer decided to make the cage screw off in the same direction that the pump spins? As soon as that seal gets a little bit worn the damn thing screws off on its own. Like it would’ve killed them to make a screw on in the opposite direction.
My dry side mp40qd lasted 5 months in 2022 from new. I have 2, one is surviving on a prayer. Awful quality, forums full of disappointed buyers with same issues, manufacturer never comments. Where are they made? So many excuses to get them to work. Follow them all and still fails. The dry side rattles just holding it. Think they blew the budget on the packaging. Feel ripped off. Eco definitely stands for economy in design of their tech. Never again.
Bummer to hear that you've had a bad experience. If you haven't already, shoot EcoTech customer support an email and they should be able to fix your MP40 up under warranty.
We use two MP60s and four MP40s on our Red Sea 750XXL which is just over 180gal. Granted we have very specific flow goals in that tank for SPS dominated bare bottom, so we might be a bit overboard depending on your own tank goals. Here's the episode from our BRS/WWC Hybrid Series that explains why we came up with that amount of pumps for our own tank. ruclips.net/video/G_4HDtW3xZ8/видео.html
Hate this thing so much I got this thing bran new and there’s a tick tick tick noises turns out the washers in 3 peaces and there not gonna do a thing for me should have gotten it through brs
I tried that too originally with my Reefer 425 but I couldn’t keep sand in the front corners even with pumps at 35-45%. Ended up putting them on the sides.
i have to disagree, i love mine. zero problems and its over a year old.. in my opinion its the best wavemaker out. i have a sicce sdc wavemaker and i hate it compared to the mp10
And how many $1000s of dollars of anemones have you lost due to these...? Not even the ecotech anemone sponge protection stops them getting in all the time.
Guys...... How could you NOT warn people against testing the pumps out dry!?!?!? Seriously? Running them dry, just to test them out, can melt a wet side down to where it fuses solid really fast. No warning on the MP60 wet & dry sides being strong enough to seriously hurt your fingers if you aren’t careful? Disappointing video.

I saw you added the maxspect pumps and now the AI Nero 7 app aside which one would you recommend for a 6 foot tank?
Wow I'm early for once. Absolutely LOVE your videos so educational and inspiring. Love you guys so much!!❤❤❤❤❤
Super helpful for when I get one of these!!
Excellent video, one note - clean them w/citric acid and LUBE them with Vegetable Glycerine (preferably kosher)
Okay

I just got a waterbox 105.4. Would I need 2 mp40?
Nice video. Not related, but what kind of lights use on the tank behind randy?
That tank is running two Hydra 26 LED fixtures. The Hydra 26 has been discontinued and replaced by the newer Hydra 32.
the Vortech Pump Flow Calculator on website is not working no more. How many mp40's would you recommend on a sps dominand red sea reefer P650 ?
my mp 10 has been working flawless for over a year. i have nothin but positive things to say about it
Bought 2 mp40qd one is bust on dry side 5 months in. Hands down worst pump ever bought.

If I have a small 30 gallon tank and its too thick for mp10 will the MP40 adjust to work on it or too much power?
You certainly can turn down the pump speed of a MP40 enough to not over power that size of tank.

If you have an older model, make sure that you have the correct wireless chip, which enables them to be connected to the Mobius app.
Will these also perform wave making functions?
You bet! There are all sorts of pre-programmed functions that you can set your Vortechs to 🙂
