Keep in mind that these are all artistic renderings based on data that is picked up via telescopes, probes, etc. They don't actually know what most of these things look like to the eye as they can't actually see them. A lot of people have the misconception that these are real photos of whatever they are describing.

Astronomical objects are tracked using a celestial projection known as ECS or Equatorial coordinate system. It uses right ascension (RA) and declination (DEC), which is similar to our longitude and latitude. Many of these objects are given alpha-numeric designations because it would be near impossible to standardize the names of every object found in situ given the vast number of objects observed daily.
"Not proven" does not equal "Made up" These things are based on hard evidence, but think of it like a criminal trial. Innocent until PROVEN guilty. You can't say for a fact that an area is the hottest place in the universe if you haven't explored the universe. But with some high tech instruments and extremely hard math you can show that something is almost certainly true. Still they can't say it's a fact. And I guess for some reason that gives you (or Daz specifically) the impression that it's just not true. What motivation would someone have to make these things up? I have no clue.

@@Sobbayi You'd better have some good damn evidence fabricated if you're getting space exploration funding making stuff up. You just as easily described why someone *wouldn't* make these things up, all of their funding is on the line. They need to *wow* the public sometimes.
@@jacket5456 Funding in any field is finite. In case you don't know what that means is all funding runs out. To secure the next round of funding they need to justify it currently. They do that by making stuff up. If a round of funding is 3 years for example and nothing new is discovered then chances are the next round of funding will be reduced if not cut entirely.

It's funny to me that y'all complain about the scientific names, when the letters and numbers are a very complex system used by scientists to basically give "addresses" to each thing in the universe. They give the spacial coordinates that have been assigned to them because actually naming every star, planet, galaxy, etc would take forever and would fill entire libraries.
Also, these scientists don't just "make shit up", they take years to develop their theories, write papers literally HUNDREDS of pages long to defend them, and have discussions with their peers about this crap. They operate and theorize under established laws about how the universe works, and use what we know to try and find out what we don't know. Everyone thought the first guy to say the earth orbited the sun instead of the other way around was insane, but turns out he wasn't making it up, it just took a while for him to prove it.

The official sizes of black holes are Miniature, Stellar, Intermediate, and Super Massive. You have small black holes like the recently discovered “Unicorn” that’s 3x the mass of our parent star and Super Massive Black Holes like the one at the center of our galaxy Sagittarius A*.
The long series of numbers and letters in the names are addresses that describe where to find them. There trillions and trillions of stars. Naming them each would quickly become meaningless and have no utility. Significant stars that peak our interest are of course given a more friendly name.

I took a Astronomy class in collage because I thought it would be cool, and everything had to do with math. I like finding out all the cool stuff like this, but I was never that great at math. However I do at least know that many that were good at the math understood that all these things actually exist. It just would be more complicated trying to show people like me and you guys all the math to prove that it exists. Funny thing because I got into that Astronomy course, and you actually needed to know Calculus, Geometry and many other math courses for everything in it. I was lucky I passed with a C, because of a understanding professor.

If they told you that Usain Bolt could run 100 miles in 4 hours you might want to believe them because at his top speed the math checks out. However, you shouldn't believe them because he can't maintain that speed and endurance for that amount of time. Even if the science seems plausible that doesn't mean that their guesses are correct.
Certainly true. Scientists are experts in their field for a reason as they’ve spent decades devoting themselves to answering previously unasked questions. All science is rigorously tested and verified and if it doesn’t stand up to scrutiny then it doesn’t continue on. How it gets reported is the biggest problem with how science is received these days. We see the headlines of the cliff notes of what is actually said in research papers and results. Scientists have no good reason to lie about their results as the general public isn’t their audience. Their audience is the people who will be reviewing their work and those who will replicate their experiments to verify results. ONLY after repeated verification can something be considered a theory. A theory that can then be tested by new questions and procedures that might shed new light on whatever is being researched.
So to refute what another commenter added, they wouldn’t tell you that Usian Bolt can run 100 miles in 4 hours just because the math checks out. They’d tell you he can run faster than anyone else and can travel a 100 m in a ludicrous time for a man of his size. So just because the math checks out doesn’t mean that it’s correct and it wouldn’t be said that way. However due to how the story has changed, due to our society’s constant game of telephone, the message can come out different than initially written.
The only force that can act on so much stuff over such a great distance is gravity? You mean one of the weakest forces known to man.

zombie stars steal energy in the form of mass from the host star due to gravitational attraction. These stars are still huge dense objects ,and as they keep acquiring their mass from the host star, the gravitational attraction increases and it keeps on chugging more. A limit of mass is reached after which the gravitational force of the star is stronger than the thermonuclear forces that exist because the star was revived. And it goes supernova. The stealing of mass is what he meant by "stealing energy". In hindsight, mass and energy are two sides of the same coin, the coin being the speed of light, which is deemed constant by physics.

@Say Sike Right Now I will admit that my knowledge maybe quite dated, it is from a Nova from 2008 called "The Race For Absolute Zero," When they explained what happened to atoms at that temp, the easiest way to interpret what they were saying was the atoms getting out of focus/fuzzy and almost melty. Usually I'm pretty good with my random facts, but if I am wrong, I don't mind being corrected.

Pretty sure that star which emits crazy strong xrays is what my airport uses on passengers to make sure they're not hiding anything in their pockets.
This video also really shows how lucky we don't even realize we are. For us to not end up with one of those giant stars or a star that eats it's own planets is pretty damn lucky. We got a solar system with a sun that's just the right size, lets off just the right radiation, our planet ended up just the right distance away, all the right conditions on our planet were just met and life was born.
Which makes you think there's infinite possibilities of every condition imaginable and unimaginable, making it clear that we cant be alone in the universe. There's gotta be neighbors out there that humanity will simply never get to meet.
Life finds a way. Considering how immense the universe is, it's foolish to think that we are an isolated incident. Other civilizations are surely out there, but we're all destined to be alone. Thanks, physics.
I don't know if I'd quantify that as luck persay, as the only life we know to exist happens on our planet with the conditions you have described. As far as we know life wouldn't have developed on these other planets as you also mentioned in the first place. So I don't know if I would prescribe our existence to luck, maybe chance is a better concept.

Most of this stuff is a bit dramatized. To a layman actual astronomy would be rather boring - it's a whole lot of math, and pictures they get are far from artistic renderings you see in the video.

3 guys who don't know how scientists discover these things, reacting to a video that's bad at explaining them, showing real images mixed in with fake and absurd images, while describing the scientists estimations and hypothisis with confidence and exaggiration. No, scientists aren't making it all up, this video was, while vaguely basing it on actual discoveries. Also, the big bang, despite its name, was nothing like an explosion, and the great attractor is just referring to something pulling on our local galaxy group, not the entire universe. Most likely, it's just a dense region of space. That's to say, an unusual number of galaxy clusters. It's just "spooky" and mysterious because it's hidden from our view.

Scientists say that only a small number of people can understand space research and its findings. My question is if such a small number of people truly understand this topic, then how do we really know the information is really true? No matter how exciting space exploration may be, more and more I believe the "experts" are lying to everyone. If something cannot be proven, I refuse to take the word of any expert.
But it is proven... or it's not even stated as fact to begin with...
Except most of this stuff IS scientifically proven, at least to the best of humankind's knowledge
That just proves your own ignorance….. science is rigorously tested over and over again, the reporting on science often only reports the headlines and not the whole story. Yes without traveling 4 billion light years the Virgo Super Cluster, we can’t tell for certain the exact highest temp, even if we’re some how able to survive the environment out there. But we can give you a range that can be scientifically proven given our current level of technology and science. Experts are experts in their field for a reason, they’ve put in decades into their fields to know more about a certain subject, and have had their work tested and tested again by independent experts to verify their results. If the results of these independent experiments don’t match the original, the original is thrown out and the process starts again. Lying about your results or making things up is a great way to lose all of your credibility in the world of science. To boil it down even more, scientists ask questions and look for answers, those answers are tested independently and verified. If they can’t be verified, they’ll change their question and approach for finding answers.
I don’t know where you got your quote about a small number of people understanding space research and it’s findings, but if anything it’s incredibly misleading. Anyone who does research would be able to tell you that. These things are very collaborative, often multi-national efforts, especially in space research. There are THOUSANDS of highly educated people that collaborate on all aspects of this research. And there are even more that aren’t involved with each project ready to make their own observations to verify the results independently of the research.
It’s not the experts that are “lying” to you, they have no need to as you are not their target audience. it’s how the media portrays science as an absolute reality, without reading the whole paper, they read headlines and so do you by proxy. They report the highlights without substance because most normal people don’t care about the details. All you have to do is do a little digging. You don’t have to be a classically trained rocket scientist to understand this stuff. Look up information about how the research was done, the methods used and how those methods were developed. You might learn something new.
This applies to all sciences by the way. Not just space science.

@@DannL18 My point is that not all scientists/experts are correct. Some of the most intelligent scientists have been proven wrong overtime. For decades, Pluto was a planet, and then one day some intelligent scientist says it is not. Why? How come? No one seemed to want to explain the change in a way the average person would be able grasp without thousands of hours of intense study. The same thing happens in the the animal sciences as well. It seems that each year a animal is moved from one family or another and some experts do not agree with the decision. If the experts cannot agree, how is the public going to learn something new and interesting? Or have faith in the facts?
I know every academic pursuit is prime for bringing in large sums of money for universities, colleges and foundations. The scientific community is no different than the public when it comes to money. Many scientists may care about their reputations and image among their peers. But do not try to tell me that there are no corrupt people within science looking procure millions through grants in order to become rich.
All the sciences need to rethink their M.O. nowadays. Far too many experts are throwing out the facts for some sinister reason. In biology, there experts who are now questing the number of sexes there are. Now the public is supposed to relearn that there are 20, 30 or 40 different sexes? There is something really wrong with this picture.
Personally I love the idea of space travel, and I would buy passage on some spaceship to somewhere once it became safe for the general public, but there is no doubt that the scientific community is not as forthcoming with all the research. There are too many recent changes within the sciences to ignore and no one seems willing to give explanations for anything.
At this point the physicists are just guessing randomly. They have no idea really :P
