During the funeral of his newborn grandson, John (Kevin Costner) consoles Monica (Kelsey Asbille) by recounting his childhood experience of losing a baby brother. He assures her that her son’s brief yet tender life was filled with nothing but the love of his mother. (Season 5 Episode 4).

Monica always gets the sweetest side of John
yeah coz john didn't want her in the first place and she's the only one who gave him a grandchild...
The delivery of this scene is exceptional, the dialogue is heart breaking, with both characters having experienced times of loss. John's comfort, warmth, and empathy to Monica shows a softer side to him. You can't help but cry with them. 😢

Too bad Paramount and Sheridan don't understand how important Costner is to this series.
I think all sides could've been a little more flexible.
Everything I've read suggested Costner didn't want to stay and wanted to do his own western show. This is by his request based on everything I've seen.
He is the series. John is the sun and everyone circles around him.
Pretty sure it’s Costner that doesn’t understand how important he is to the series.
Once he got the greenlight to make his dream project, he was done with the show.
Or rest of us this show keeps us going.

There are a lot of time where I see my father in John Dutton. Though he could be tough on me and my brothers, he is nothing short of a stalwart, wonderful man. But he could be the most compassionate and caring person in the world. I love him. He's the best man I could ever hope to know. John Dutton is the man my father is, and I love him for it.
