The delivery of this scene is exceptional, the dialogue is heart breaking, with both characters having experienced times of loss. John's comfort, warmth, and empathy to Monica shows a softer side to him. You can't help but cry with them. 😢
@@quickstep101 no i think john now sees he was wrong about her and kayce and seeing as how monica knows why kayce hates him he's trying to repair the relationship with him through monica and his grandson. the qoute "we are all human we make mistakes its the lessons were learn from those mistakes and relationships we forge to better ourselves to not make the same mistakes is what makes us as humans grow be it for good or evil only time will tell"
There are a lot of time where I see my father in John Dutton. Though he could be tough on me and my brothers, he is nothing short of a stalwart, wonderful man. But he could be the most compassionate and caring person in the world. I love him. He's the best man I could ever hope to know. John Dutton is the man my father is, and I love him for it.
No matter how many times I've watched this scene it never fails to make me cry. "He lived a perfect life -- all he knew was that you loved him." How beautiful, insightful, and oh so comforting. Good on you, Taylor Sheridan.
Amazing scene.. John comforts Monica and at the same time he makes Kayce to understand the importance to be a father and the responsibility to feed his family by keeping the job for a while..
This scene has stayed with me, i think about it often, i tell people about it. I've no kids of my own and have never lost any but it's one of the most emotional, well thought out points of view I could imagine. Well done to all involved.
When you lose a spouse, you're a widow. When you lose your parents, you're an orphan. There is no word for losing a child, no name that can be given to that mother&father... I think it's because it's a pain that is wordless.. there are no words for that pain you feel because nothing will ever compare to that loss... it goes beyond pain.
not original, this has been written so many times... for some different types of loss are greater than another loss but this isn't the same person to person
@KS-cl8br that's not the point of the message, my dude.. and as someone who's had 6 miscarriages.. I think i have some warrent on what it's like. The point is that sometimes there are no words for your pain. SOMETIMES, all we need to hear is nothing at all, and just have someone near you to understand that THAT pain is unimaginable and there is NOTHING to say... that's why I think there's no word for it.. losing a child is unnaturally painful. I lost someone i didn't even get to know, and it has crushed me.. so i can't imagine the pain someone would go through losing a child they raised!... Was that more person to person for you? Next time, I'll remember to trauma dump so it feels more ORIGINAL for you 😅 Peace out, girl scout ✌️
You left out the loss of siblings. We’re always the forgotten grievers. Everyone always asks about the parents, as they should, but if you look for self help books on sibling loss grief, you’ll find a couple at best. The number of self books to help you get over the loss of a pet (and that’s not to say they aren’t valued family members) far exceed any on a sibling loss. Our siblings are our first friends. And the ones we expect to be there for every milestone, and the ones who we expect to outlive parents and spouses with us. When you lose parents, you lose your past, when you lose your spouse and kid, you lose your dreams for a future. And when you lose your siblings, especially when they were your only sibling, you lose your past present and future.
Everything I've read suggested Costner didn't want to stay and wanted to do his own western show. This is by his request based on everything I've seen.
Pretty sure it’s Costner that doesn’t understand how important he is to the series. Once he got the greenlight to make his dream project, he was done with the show.
For all of how she dislikes his way of life, she always saw his best side, brought out the best in him, and made him want more... more for his family than just to continue the ranch.
Sorry for your loss. Me and my wife tried for 5 years to have a child. Finally it happened for us......a week later my wife is bleeding i rush her to the ER and they told us she had a miscarriage.....but to schedule with an OB for confirmation. Those 2 weeks were a living hell for us. I went with my wife to that appointment cause i didn't want her to be alone.......we got a miracle when our doctor found a heartbeat. I used to check on her multiple times while she was sleeping to make sure she was breathing.......i did that for 6 months or i would sit in the recliner holding her while she slept. Stuff with kids always effected me its only worse now that i have my daughter.
It’s a shame Kevin isn’t returning. It may not seem like it, but they were clearly laying the groundwork this season for John to really become a better father and repair relationships, like with Kayce and Jamie.
No greater loss of pain to be burdened with when a parent has to bury a child, Something no parent should endure, but alas nowadays it's becoming more & more frequent,
When this frist came out I watched all the seasons Peacock had Then it moved to a different paid thing ARE you going to have all the new ones Peacock ?????

I love this scene….. one of the better ones….. I have to say, I know Kevin Costner may feel his other work like Horizon is better applicationof his skills and direction, he has the right to decide what he wants to do with that,…. But this show was never better when it included him in scenes like this……. Think it was one of the best series I’ve ever seen in my 59 years……. I’m not sure if the directions it’s taking now is still in that same caliber……

I mean the entire series revolves around everybody trying to “live up to” John Duttons expectations and earning his respect so I get the feeling the best of this particular series is already behind us and it’ll slowly decline until it becomes as atrocious as the Walking Dead did….

Its rea!ly sad that Yellowstone wil! End because two grown men can't accommodate each other without involving lawyers. They are both at fault. Sheridan can only spread himself so far with all the projects he takes on, when his biggest one is lacking attention. And for Costner...you signed up for this. You should see it through. I already predict Costners show will not draw the attention he thinks he will get. If a man can't start a job and see it all the way through, then you are more of a child throwing a temper tantrum! At this point I will not invest my time in series like these. Ill wait till it's done.

Monica always gets the sweetest side of John

This is the best scene from the entire series on a few levels !! No better words could be said to a grieving mother if any at all
I like how Mo is always there for Kayce, what a great guy
I dont think any character on the show is hated less than Mo. he’s chill, polite and every time you see him everyone’s like hey Mo. lol

Kevin Costner actually had a brother who died at birth so I can imagine some of that personal loss was channeled into this scene.
I wonder if Costner told Sheridan about that and they used it for the show.
This scene has stayed with me, i think about it often, i tell people about it. I've no kids of my own and have never lost any but it's one of the most emotional, well thought out points of view I could imagine. Well done to all involved.
Perfect writing, couldn't have been written, planned or acted any better.
Indeed. I find the show to be well written and in scenes like this heart-rending.

One of the best scenes to ever be put on the screen, absolutely incredible ! The heart & soul of Yellowstone is & was Kevin Costner as John Dutton.
This is a shattering scene-it tears me up every single time.
Too bad Paramount and Sheridan don't understand how important Costner is to this series.
I think all sides could've been a little more flexible.

Powerful words for when the heart is the weakest…
I hope at my times of sorrow, there is someone like that to lean on….
Powerful moment Costner is a terrific actor and made this series!!! Pride is a terrible thing!

This series is something serious and valuable. It has sense , heart and emotions. It’s deeper than i think
The crazy thing about these two is that they're more alike than any of his children
Taylor Sheridan can certainly write some incredible and memorable lines and dialogue.
