The cistern that Gaius and Simon are fixing during episode 5 of Season 3 of the Chosen is actually the key to understanding the entire episode!
Now, I know what you’re thinking: you’ve got to be kidding, right? So much happened in this episode!
The healing of Veronica!
The resurrection of Jairus’s daughter!
Eden’s miscarriage.
It’s easy to see how the events involving Simon and Gaius could almost get lost in all of that. But it is actually this act of repairing the cistern that shows us what we really need to understand about these events.
And when we see all of this through the lens of the context, history, and scriptural connections of these key moments, it will become so much clearer!
So, if you’re interested in seeing those connections and diving deeper into this event, then join me for this episode of The Chosen Explained.

Brandon, I am a Catholic Christian but you have taught me so, so, much about the Jewish culture. Thank you!!!!
Same here! I use the shows’ Jewish morning prayer and prayer before bed.
Did anyone else cheer when Gaius shakes Peter's hand? I found that so wholesome. I squealed like a fangirl
Ikr?
Yep, sure did!
I surely did
I was happy
It was awesome! But then “ooops”!
The healing of Veronica was extremely moving and brought me to tears. She did a great job.
Thank you, Brandon, for your teachings ❤ ! I learn so much from everything that you post ! God bless you and be with you and your family as you teach and help others to understand the word of God and the ministry of Jesus 🙏 ! I'm 58 yrs old, but I still enjoy being a student every day and getting more into the Bible 😎🙏❤️ ! Peace and love be with you always.
I am a trauma therapist, but I am very spiritually evolved , mentored daily by Arch Angel Gabriel. . I have had the company of Christ, and God, and been counseled by Mother Mary for weeks.. Gabriel once recently took me I thought before God again and we spent an hour in this beyond description sacred experience. Gabriel then informed me I was not taken before God, as this is who I am. I can bring beings into sessions to assist with healing and I now connect others to their Souls. I often experience a refusal to assist hearing: they must do the work. Our lessons are prioritized by the Spiritual community.
Great message Brandon. It seems that our own government is nothing but a broken or a bad sisturn and it keeps getting worse. I believe only God can fix it now. Keep up the good work and God bless you and your family 👪
I agree..God Bless You All
Agreed. Keep praying 🙌🏽🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🤲🏽
I believe....
you hit the nail on the head my friend, may the infinite Creator and may all people start living the True Way of the teachings of Christos ! and be showered by their Blessings always , ALL PEOPLE , GLOBALLY !
@@tonyc7689 thank you and God bless

This episode seems to be centered on family. The way Gaius talked about the servant whom he loved like a son, I'm guessing Gaius will turn out to be the centurion whose beloved servant is healed by Jesus in Luke 7 and Matt. 8. Jesus even marveled at his great faith.
Yes, I think he is the Centurion in Luke 7 too. The Lord bless you all
Wow!!! The level of understanding and revelation that you bring amazes me. Thank you for your teaching. it is SO truly appreciated!!!
@BrandonRobbins My brother in Christ, just a quick thank you.......started watching you I believe almost a year ago. I came to you (lol. obviously I was led, but didn't know it at the time) from an interest in anthropology in the M.E. and everyone was talking about something called "The Chosen". blah, blah, blah, I've returned to church, and have a 1:1 with a pastor priest next week. I know you do this for His glory, but you should know, I appreciate you letting Him work thru you! I am still learning, and that's actually been fun!
Good job Brandon. Your insights help further understand Jewish culture and first century life. Thank you.
That moment between Gaius and Simon made me cry, which I do often with this series BUT that moment at the cistern was huge Roman soldier willing share drink with Simon, the story when they talked make me realize he is the Roman to trust Jesus to heal his child, but to see it acted out with compassion, was beautiful. Thanks Brandon for being a great teacher. I love that you are using THE CHOSEN to help teach. It's hard to understand the Bible sometimes therefore seeing what we have read acted out with so much love and turns of emotions sticks it to my brain. ❤️🙏👉The Chosen I love our worldly Chosen family.
Clearly Gaius is the military man who will later have his beloved servant die.
Brandon, that was a very profound explanation of the metaphor between cistern water and living water. Thank you for that. For me, S3E5 now has deeper meaning as well as emotional imagery that reflects Dallas' incredible talent to capture the events surrounding Jesus' life and miracles. Thank you, too, Dallas, for sharing your God-given talent of telling the story of Jesus and His Apostles.
These guys are doing a great job. It is refreshing to see someting of "quality" put out in the Christian world and beyond. Wonderful tool for evangelization. May the Father continue to bless it.
Thank you very much for choosing to analyse further these episodes for us. You are really graced to do this. I bless Almighty God for raising up to do this.
Please read Isa.42 , the whole of it and please give it to Jonathan to read also. The Lord continue to bless and keep you and all connected to this Chosen project. Amen.

I didn't know that I needed the Gaius-Simon team up!
Water is everything isn't it? I think I enjoyed the interaction between Gaius and Simon more than any other part of this episode. Working on the cistern was important for everyone, and brings together 2 men from very different worlds.I wonder if eventually, these 2 men will work as 1 for the living water of Jesus. We'll see won't we? Thank you Br. Brandon for the lesson of the life giving love of our Lord. Living water. 🥤💧🌊✝ In addition, I thought the actress who played Veronica was excellent! She and Jonathan Roumie responded so well to one another with their portrayals. Veronica was desperate to be healed and Jesus instantly realized someone had touched him and needed help. Well done!
I forecast that Gaius will be the Centurion at the Cross of Jesus. And will he come to the tomb?
@@activateabundancenow6726 I'm also wondering if Yussef might turn out to be Joseph of Arimathea.
@@activateabundancenow6726 have you ever wondered if perhaps Quintus is the Roman killed by Barabas? Plausible??
@@debjacobe3099 yes! I think so too!
@@debjacobe3099 that's a great idea ,I believe it night be as Josef has known Jesus from the beginning , I personally would also like to see Nicodemus again .
Fabulous. You give us the most wonderful insights into the truths presented in The Chosen. Thanks 😊
What an amazing message Brandon! I didn't connect the two. THANK YOU! Jesus IS the living water!
Amen. Thank You Jesus!!
And thank You Lord for giving us brother Brandon
My son passed 11/26/22 I was denied to positive I’d him, he was in the hospital overnight a day and half before he died. No autopsy reports or police reports as of 1/11/2023. I never saw him, his clothes or was allowed to bathe and prepare his body for cremation and a final goodbye here on earth. I need Jesus.
Praying for you 🙏
Praying for you ❤
After watching episode 7 & 8 at the Cinema this weekend, we now know the sick child was Gaius kid.
I love and appreciate all of your comments. You have so much knowledge. Thank you for sharing with us!!🙏
Brother Brandan thank you very much for expanding and explaining this episode of The Chosen. Thank you.
Excellent explanation of customs & rituals. Thank you for clarifying the Jeremiah reference 🙏
Loved this breakdown Brandon. I was actually thinking a lot about that scene of Simon and Gaius talking of the broken cisterns and the passage in Jeremiah. Gaius was talking about all the different Roman gods and that it depended on what you wanted, which god you were to rely on, and comparing them with the Jewish God Simon shared about. I have a feeling that Gaius will realise that he's been looking to broken cisterns in looking to his god for his needs very shortly. And Simon whose been taking advise from Gaius on his marriage to Eden will need to turn to Jesus rather than away as he's been doing a little lately.
That said I'm looking forward to see how this early friendship might develop moving forward considering what might be coming in the next episodes.
What an excellent interpretation! That added an extra layer to this episode I consider the best of the entire series so far. Well done!
As always, thank you so much for your insight! This episode had me crying from the memories of when Jesus healed me of my shame. One of my absolute favorites in the Bible. When He calls he Daughter! 💗😢💗🙏🙌
Hi Brandon!! So happy to hear your breakdowns of the Chosen’s season three!! I love that you give the context of Scripture as it relates to the show. Thank you for all you do!! I pray that God continues to use& bless you and your family & ministry to reach all of us for His glory. May you& your family be abundantly blessed in the new year & beyond!!😍😍😍😍🙏🙏🙏
Great video. Christ's use of the living water metaphor is powerful. Here and for the Samaritan woman at the well he made the point the water HE provides enlivens and enlarges the one who consumes it so that it can also feed others. Living water also cleanses by washing away the old filth and restoring cleanliness to the washed better than a dip in dead water.
Thank you for again, doing such a great job at explaining ancient cultures during Yeshua's time. I love this show and I always look forward to your teachings afterwards. You're an awesome teacher. Thanks for doing all the research. After listening to you, for verification, I also look up your info for myself. Deepens my understanding so much more. Thank you!
I love these episodes, I am learning so very much. My heart and mind is overflowing with my love for Jesus. Understanding all that God wants of us and why. ❤🙏🏼 Thank you so much. 🙏🏼❤
Brandon, you are so very articúlate and do such a great job of filling in the blanks.Bringing out historical context is one thing The Chosen has done well. You highlight that and then synthesize those elements. Well done!
Amazing breakdown of the episode and tie in to Jesus and the concept of "living water."
Thank you for showing me that the value of life is the thread that connects these seemingly disparate stories.
I don’t know what to say anymore… Thank you so much brother for being obedient to the Lord and continuing to serve for His ministry. Such a blessed and anointed teaching. To Him alone be the glory.
Thank you so much for this work you are doing! You have helped make something great even better!
Another exceptional commentary, Brandon. Thanks for all the hard work you put into providing added layers to our understanding of The Chosen and to Scripture. People must know!
Thank you Brandon, I truly appreciate your insight into this episode. I had missed the depth of the analogy, cistern water and living water to the Jewish belief of the day and the repentance/ forgiveness Jesus was teaching. You presented a wonderful explanation! Good blessings on your work. Thanks 🙏🏻 again.
I love your teaching! I pray the Lord keeps blessing your site. I have shared your site with many people. God bless
One thing that stood out is Jesus' response to the mourners that the girl was asleep. From what I have learned is that the Jewish people believed that when a person dies they basically are asleep (from Daniel 12:2) and wait for the resurrection at the Messianic age. So Jesus was in a sense telling the truth in response to the mourners in which he was mocked and went even further to resurrect her.
BrandonnRobbins I love your analysis. You do a great job
Very powerful message and insight. Guilty of not relying on God alone although He told a few yrs ago I’d have to believe Him for everything. I learning to more and more!
Soooo good Pastor!! Thank you for this awesome deep dive. You are very appreciated.
Speculation: Gaius is going to be the Centurion who had the paralyzed servant (perhaps his son's playmate, who he cherishes as his own?) Gaius' faith is growing, and he is also very aware of the Jewish protocols that would prevent a rabbi like Jesus from entering his house.
Brandon, you do an excellent job on explaining the scriptures.
Thank you and God Bless
Thank you so much sir for the crystal clear explaination. Watching from Cyprus.
You are bringing me to tears! With every episode😥😃 so True
Brother just watched your video. I have watched others and appreciate your insight and wisdom. So many of us Christians do not understand the culture.
I learn something new every time I watch your videos?? Thank you for sharing this with us. God bless you. 🙏
Jeremiah 2:11-19
“My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.”
My cistern is broken. I’m never satisfied.
So blessing ! Praise the Lord for your gift !
Thank you for the powerful breakdown of this episode. Beautifully done brother Brandon 🤗🌹🕊️🔥🌈
One of Brandon’s best 👍🏼
Very insightful. I would have missed this as just stories from the Gospels. Thank you.
They did clearly show the tools that Simon and Gaius used and how they used them. Is this a reference to how Rome would help spread Christianity throughout the Roman Empire?
Thank you for helping me understand what's going on in this episode 😊😊
What great insights !! thank you for the time and effort yo put into these video's ❤
Living water....this is the best analysis I've seen from you. Thank you
Jesus is the living water ❤️
Amazing and powerful message, thank you soooo much for this explanation. I’ve never fully understood what living water was, until now! Thank you, Yeshua!
Thank you Brandon for another great explanation . Also , I've watched this episode several times & thought that the woman having the miscarriage was Eden but thought surely if it were Jesus would have addressed this with her & Peter ,so dimissed it just wondering why she felt so outside the group. Thank you for clarifying this. It makes much more sense now . Love & prayers from Australia 🇭🇲
Dasha, her mother, is clearly visible and with that thought in the back of your mind you'll reognize Eden more easily
Theory here: Gaius is the soldier that asks Jesus to heal his servant/son that is found in Matthew 8:5-13, Luke 7:1-10 and John 4:46-54. To me it makes sense plot wise. Gaius has a connection through Matthew. He is seeing what Christ is doing first hand and to be honest I think he is starting to believe. Gaius also is, kind of, going out of his way to help the Jewish people/Christ/disciples by the way of fixing the water problem and, in a past episode, told Matthew that he would be looking out for the women by doing extra patrols around this old house.
Ps I never understood " living water" until you taught this message. Wow this was a very big lesson. Thanks Brandon
SO good! Spot on!
Thank you! This was really good!
Thanks for the update and take on the series.
Daaaang! That is really good. Love it!
Very insightful. Thank you
Thank you for your insight.
Thank you for explaining this video.
Thank you Brandon !
This is brilliant. Thank you, Brandon!
Rosaries near me help me pray. My tzi tzi.
Fabulous insight regarding the cistern. Thank you
Man, you are great. Very thankful for the explanation. I have felt so much near Jesus now, after this series. Thank you all.
Thank you Pastor Brandon
That was awesome
I love your reactions and insights
Brandon, would love to hear more about Jairus’ role. What exactly is a “ruler of the synagogue”?
Thank you brother and God bless you!!!
Really good exposition of the cultural context. One note, however: I believe Jairus' daughter was raised from the dead. My understanding of the word 'resuscitation' is restoration of normal breathing and circulation of someone who still has life signs, has momentarily lost consciousness.
Very well explained. Thank you.
Thanks for going through that. That information adds a lot to my appreciation of this powerful episode.
Thank you, Brandon. You explain everything so well.🙏♥️😁
You give a depth insight of that episode. Thanks
Great video!
Amen and Thank You 🙏
I heard your thoughts today and was inspired and uplifted by your words. I just subscribed so I can hear more from you in the future. God bless you for your good heart.
Jesus gives us fountains of living water flowing up from within.
A great commentary on a great episode; thanks Brandon!
IV got the angel app and this is my second time around watching the chosen, but this time I see and notice more ..thank you for showing us what things meant with the chosen, you bring it more alive bring Jesus Christ alive .God Bless
Thank you, Brandon!
That was a fantastic explanation of that episode, thanks so much, have a great 2023 from sunny Barbados
When I’m sad I can’t watch the video cuz I haven’t caught up still
Another great video
WOW!! Thanks for breaking open up the Easter Eggs!!!😍
G'day, Angela W! Could you possibly explain what is meant by "Easter eggs" in a context such as this?
Thankyou Brandon great explanation
Brandon, thank you, I think God has given you correct understanding of this.
I have a question - the women was sick for 12 years and the girl died at age 12.
So about the time the girl was born this woman became sick.
I am sure this is no coincidence - but how do you interpret this ?
I if Gaius's foster son is going to get healed. Since the kid is the son of a servant that died while with Gaius. Then the kid may be a servant as well. and reading into Luke 7:1-10 it kind of makes sense.
Well done thank you
Very True there is definitely more feelings between Simon & Giaus
