It seems Russia is getting real world experience improving not only their tactics, but electronic warfare, missile technology, and drone technology. The US and NATO are not getting the same level of real time improvements. The west has not fielded anything new in their inventory of weaponry given to Ukraine, while Russia has put in several new improvements on their anti-tank and drone-jamming technologies.

I think the wests attitude on Russian technology is 'they keep trying, poor things'. So weapons from the '70's to 00's are sufficient to counter what Russia is fielding to date

It makes sense. Ground-based radar will always be at a disadvantage. The profile of the terrain and the curvature of the ground will always limit it. Radar in the air does not have such great limitations. If the technical range of the missile is 250 km, but the range of the homing radar is 140 km, then the potential of the missile is untapped.

It's balance . Yes you have to sell weapons to make weapons . Yes I get that .Having said the both the Russians and Ukrainians have had a rough go at it during this war . I probably would leave an air of mystery especially if 24 aircraft were shot down over such a short span of time . Eventually how 24 aircraft have been shot down so quickly in such a short span of time would be found out but delaying the reason how this took place would have served Russia's interest far better rather than letting it out of the bag immediately. Who knows you could get western press to ask the question to western officials ," how did Ukraine lose 24 aircraft in such a short amount of time ? " The western official could hem and has and then reluctantly say something to the effect of ,"well the Russians may have linked their AWACS to their S400 but we aren't exactly sure "

Is that why the Russian MoD has genuinely claimed to have destroyed 48 out of all 20 HIMARS sent to Ukraine? Is that why, according to the Russian MoD, the entire Ukrainian Air Force and every single aircraft in Ukraine (including rusted airframes in scrap yards) has been destroyed, with another 20% of them all destroyed on top of that? Is that also why Ukraine has apparently had every single tank, IFV, and armored vehicle in its possession pre war, as well as every single armored vehicle donated to Ukraine, has been destroyed twice over? Is that why Russia claimed 6,000 dead Russians in September 2022, despite at the same time, 11k named Russian soldiers were confirmed dead through local news papers and family testimonies? For a neofascist nation that is apparently fairly accurate throughout this WAR, it sure is strange how they blatantly lie and claim literally impossible things at every opportunity.

Because they are using different strategies as nobody has air superiority so everyone is at risk however ukraine could gain air superiority with F-16s here's how:
      1. Sead ops ukraine needs good jets with long ranges good armament and long range advanced detection to suppress air defences
      2. Dogfighting the F-16 is superior to most of russias fighters making it ideal for getting the advantage in the air making it easier to launch more longer range strikes at Russians
3.air defence the F-16 can also shoot down incoming missiles and jets helping keep skies clear

Soviet air defences (including interceptor jets) were already sharing target data via network as far back as the 70's. In the early 80's a MiG-31 could launch its R-33 missiles at distant targets without using its own radar, relying on target data from another 31 within 200 km. The A-50/S-400 combo is just a new usage of it, until now it wasn't needed, usually it's ground providing data to air.

Doesn't work when you can't put the AWACS in the air. This is decades old technology. It doesn't work unless you have air superiority. Ukraine will soon have western jets, which will deprive the Russians of said superiority. US doctrine is to establish Air SUPREMACY, where the opponent cannot even put planes in the air. Russia has only lasted this long because Ukraine isn't a NATO standard force. They started with subpar Russian/Soviet equipment. Putin would be well advised not to start trouble with a real modern army like, say, Poland. He'd have to be insane to take on the US. Just talk to the few Wagner Group survivors of the party in Syria...

And if the A-50's are unable to operate outside of Russian borders for fear of being destroyed? And of course Ukraine would be within its rights to down them over Russian territory. A more powerful approach is to use all radars, active and passive on all platforms, air, sea and land (and satellite), to create a fusion of all to determine targets. The best asset to bring down any threat can then be utilised. Also bear in mind that if a target is scanned or locked onto, it, or a close buddy can spoof, turning one target into dozens, or jam. Mr Shoigu's claims are surely exaggerated, probably contain many cruise missiles such as Storm Shadow salvoes, and ECM generated fake targets as well. I do not however doubt the capability of the S-400/A-50 combination, or the general capability of the Russian multi-layered integrated air defence network. The reason for that is simple, I studied and served on the previous, Soviet built version of it. As far back as the 70's Soviet SAMs and interceptors were capable of using target information from a different source to engage targets. For example an S-125 launching missiles towards a target detected by an S-75, only using its own radar in the terminal phase, or if optical tracking was possible not using the radar at all. Sure, it was analogue, slow and inaccurate, but so were the potential targets, thus it worked.
There used to be articles about Soviet interceptors relying on ground based radars to find targets, as a negativity, ignoring the fact that with such approach the target didn't get early warning from the radar of the interceptor itself - just as with the A-50/S-400 combination in the video.

This was supposed to have happened several weeks ago. I remember reading about it at the time. I have no way of knowing if this war is even really happening. It seems strange that 2 sides would go to war and put high visibility tape over their camo to make which side they're on more identifiable.
Plus there's all the obviously faked footage of taking trenches full of the opposing side's dead. And even stranger is nobody in the comments calls this stuff out.

Russia has advanced to the point of being able to relay targeting information from an AWACS to ground based air defense systems. Western aircraft, naval assets, as well as ground units can all merge their individual views into a total battlespace picture. The system can pick from available assets, choose the best option, and fire on the target. There is a capability to even change targeting data while the ordnance is en route. This Russian 'breakthrough' is decades old technology in the west.

Soviet air defences and interceptors could engage targets using target data from a different source as far back as the 70's. S-75, S-125, S-200, Su-15, that era. (Source: I served on S-75, we practiced it, thankfully only in peacetime.)

Militaries often over-stare their successes. So it’s possible the 24 planes claim was an exaggeration. Also, some might be UAVs.
But I think it is undeniable that Ukraine’s Air Force seems to be much less active than a few months ago.
Meanwhile, the Russian air force seems to be more active, increasing bombings of Ukrainian positions.
So it seems Russia has been having success against the Ukrainian air force.

Good luck with accurate numbers in a time of war however pre war numbers can be up to 250 aircraft and ukraine has lost a decent amount of that but if Russia killed 24 planes in 5 days ukraine wouldn't have an air force now so that's obviously false but ukraine probably has 50-100 maybe even more aircraft left just a guess though I don't know true numbers and we won't for a long long time

Bloody good point. Why would the west, whose only advantage is total propaganda control, allowing most westerners following the war to become huge Russian and Putin supporters?
I think it's all a ruse. If Russia was the good guy they would have called out the US and the 5 Eyes Nations for releasing covid and would have warned us that the vaccine was actually a military program.
I think the wars and the insane policies from the left are being done to create an excuse to replace national governments and allow a global totalitarian state to take over. Just wait until Trump gets back in.
