Since theres very little guarantee players can win a tournament, they may as well just play ESports games they enjoy. Even after they lose, theyll still be able to say "this game is still really fun. Good times/value per $1"
Dota doesn't have the presence that Fortnite has but it still pays out larger than Fortnite per player. The FGC just doesn't provide ways for fans to support their players. Sure it's nice that they stream and we can donate but they shouldn't have to and some don't do well streaming. I'd pay a TWT or CPT battle pass for some trivial shit or an access to a replay database of all games including the ones not being streamed. Even the Evo steam sale feels hollow if you're a fan of the games. If they at least made it upfront something like, "Hey we're selling an Evo bundle and part of the sales will go to Evo staff and the prize pool, " you'd at least have an incentive for people who bought the game to buy it again if they want to support Evo and maybe gift it to their friends who don't play fighting games and wouldn't have bothered with the sale otherwise.
Your commentary about "Where were you when NRS/KI had huge prize pool?" is killer, no pun intended. SF won 300K in 2 and a half years of competitive mortal kombat X. He practicaly won every single tournament at least once except for Combo Breaker. And even the ones that got second, earned a good chunk, like A Foxy Grandpa for example. But I guess since MKX shared a spotlight with SFIV's last year, some of the players were more into giving a proper sendoff to this game (that also had big prize pools) than to pick up X, which had huge problems regarding balance and design (even though I still think it's a really fun game to watch and play).
Are you trying to tell me Sonic Fox, one of the greatest fighting game players of all time, won just 300k$ during 2 and a half years of winning 90% of major MKX tournaments ? Knucledu and MenaRD made 250k$ in one day by winning Capcom Cup.... How on earth does a failure of a game such as SF5, considered dead by many, outclasses NRS MKX in prizes?
@@mappybc6097 Yeah SF basically won this in 2 and a half years. But that was another time, you know, MKX had most of his prizes poured in 2015/first half of 2016, in which SFIV was ending and SFV beginning. For example, Daigo by becoming 2nd best at Capcom Cup, earned 60K, Sonic by winning ESL Season 3 gained 75K. Compared to the rival at the time USFIV, MKX wasn't far behind imo. Plus, none of the NRS games made as much sales as MKX did, so they had a lot of money in store (plus the community funds with Krimson Ermac etc). SFV is a whole different beast, the game got tons and tons of support from Sony and countless sponsors. Needless to say SFV intended to be the next big e-sports thing. The next LoL, the next CS, etc. So of course that's gonna be hard for others fgs to compete with that much interest and sponsors.

On the previous gen most tournaments were on Xbox 360 for similar reasons and the story goes on. As for SFV the whole reason for It to be exclusive was the e-sports. So Sony showed interest in investing on Capcom to make SFV the next big e-sports thing. The price was the exclusivity...
The caveat here is that fortnite tournament didn't really have an entry threshold like most fighting game tournaments do, if you stacked 40 million bronze kens between them and the cup I'd say punk, tokido or fujimura would still have the same chance of winning.
I appreciate you uploading this and sharing your more reasonable opinion about things. I disagree with your ratio comparison here. Having 40 million people is a lot, but the skill floor of the game is much lower and the average player age is much lower, which I think results in things being easier to compete in. Of course you have pools that look like dumpster fires sometimes (see MK pools), but I still think the worst of those players would be better than the worst of the Fortnite players, especially when looking at the luck factor involved. I will admit it is difficult to compare those things though. One other thing that would be interesting to compare is the skill of the top players versus the skill of the top players of Fortnite. To say that that 16-year-old could possibly be compared to the calibur of GO1 would be very difficult, even when you consider the differences in the genres. Thanks for uploading.
Lets not compare one game to another. Instead lets consider that professionals of any sort should be paid at a very minimum, liveable wages.Travel expenses alone can be worth all of the prize money for smaller tournaments and that's for winning/highly placing players and anyone outside of top 8 gets...nothing. Many top players have twitch streams or youtube channels as their PRIMARY source of income become tournament money is not guaranteed. Its really more like the FGC sponsors need to pitch in a little more because the more money on the line the better the payouts AND the more enticing the tournament will be for players to sign up for. You would be lying to yourself if you said that every one of those 40 million fortnight players just wanted to be there to play fortnight
The money and opportunities being spread across multiple events in a tournament series is much better for the community and pro players as a whole than just having one big event.
I respect Sajam for engaging with people in his stream. Some of the views of the people in his chat are truly stupid. He’s talking about prize money and the mindset of the “wrong game” someone in the chat states that “but 39 million of Fortnite players are 9 yr olds” this has nothing to do with the point.....
I'm still perplexed that some of these tournaments, the sign up is like 20-50 dollars at times(No venue fee) but yet, the prize pool for up to 3rd place for that respective game is just a couple hundred which barely covers your travelling and staying out of state expenses. I'm hoping EVOs prize pool is consistent on how many entered and all of it is going to the players and commentators of course.

No. Being a pro in what you can get good at is always better. If money is what you're after.
