    A poignant yet beautiful story about unacquainted love is truly timeless in a Shakespearan way, Alex Sharp totally nailed it with his subtle but stunning performance. Also really glad the writers moved Will's story from Book 3 to season 1 (Yun TianMing in the book), at least we know D&D are great at adapting when they actually want to adapt a story.

    Ye Wenjie lost faith in humanity due to a series of betrayals and disappointments. In the Netflix adaptation, her mother and father were betrayed during the Cultural Revolution, the girl who killed her father showed no remorse, her lover exploited her, and Mike Evan never acknowledged Vera as his daughter until after her death. These betrayals left Ye Wenjie feeling abandoned and isolated. In the Tencent version, her mother and sister both turned her father in, and her superior at the Red Coast Base took credit for her work, leading to further disillusionment. This betrayal ultimately led to a confrontation where she was forced to kill her future husband and the father of her child. These experiences left her with no empathy for humanity.

      Yes but irony is in the book it revealed that an alien who sent her the warning would have only dreamed to be on her place and alien's world 1000's more cruel that Chine in 60's because going through chaotic eras only the most totalitarian and cruel civilizations survided

    Absolutely, this is the best episode of the entire season 1. Many people loved Episode 5. But I love Episode 6. This one is absolutely beautiful! The song by Lana Del Rey made the ending flying to heaven.

    I read the whole trilogy and I have to admit it's really hard to adapt. Considering that, they did a really good job with it, the essence of the books is preserved, the changes make sorta sense. I'm quite content with the outcome. What's even more important, this will bring more people into the books.

    Books made me a little bit more sympathetic towards Ye Wenjie than the show knowing what she had been through... It's more brutal in the books...

    This episode reinforces something the San-Ta said to Mike Evans earlier, that to survive a species must have fear. Humans were doomed because they forgot how to fear. But now that the San-Ti have taught humanity to fear again, humans are coming together to fight back, to survive. With out causing Humans to fear again, projects on the scale of the Stair Case project would be impossible. With out the fear of the looming alien invasion, the could never get countries to agree to change the international space treaties or to give up the nukes to make that project work. They would never be able to build the space fleet base on the moon. The San-Ti, if they loose this war with Humanity, they will lose because they made us fear. This proves that despite the immense superiority in technology the San-Ti have, they are capable of making mistakes. And to win, the Humans will have to take advantage of those mistakes.

      I mean...logically the shortest path between the Alpha Centauri system and Solar System is a straight line. And the sophons must know everything about the plan. So, the best bet is to set the probe on a straight path to the Alpha Centauri system and hope for the best.
      As for your second question, they simplified the staircase program for the TV. In the books, it is mentioned that each bomb has positioning thrusters attached to it for precise maneuvering in order the propel the probe on the right trajectory.

    a lot of the story that people are missing from the books are in the mannerisms, mise en scene, and character dynamics. the fact certain things i realise in this show are also things that people are claiming is missing from the book is funny. do people not know how to watch film anymore? has visual analysis died?

      The money the agency gets by "selling" the stars is going to fund the defense projects like the Stair Case project. He is, in a round-a-bout way giving the money to Jin.

    Bro, I'm back again. As a reader of the original work, although I'm not very satisfied with this series, I must admit that the portrayal of the cancer patient is quite well done. In the original work, this plotline only appears in the third part, but it does fit in the timeline at this stage. In the original work, the man was pursuing a very beautiful and kind woman who was single and had no boyfriend. The cancer patient was more introverted and shy. His life was very lonely, and no one had ever shown him genuine love. Before his death, he came into a large sum of money, but his illness was incurable. It was only then that he decided to purchase a star and give it to the woman. This episode portrayed his sense of despair quite effectively.
    As for the idea of sending someone into space to meet the fleet of Trisolarans, it was actually discussed for a long time. Moreover, someone with Cheng Jin's status originally wouldn't have had the qualification to speak, but her plan impressed the experts present, and Wade spared no effort in pushing forward with the plan. This setup becomes very important in the subsequent plot.

    This episode is the weakest of the series. A pause to examine the human side of the story, that is a bit of a snooze-fest. The series really should have been expanded to only cover book 1 in 8 episodes because episode 5 is the end of book 1 and to do that it was too rushed. Even just one more episode worth of time before episode 5 could have expanded on a few scenes, and in particular spent more time in the VR game. they didn't explore the trisolaran world enough through the game to make it believable as a recruitment tool. They left out so much that it almost makes the game pointless in this series. And a lost opportunity for some more epic visuals too.

    • @sorkaem
      @sorkaem 7 месяцев назад +14

      I agree that they show is rushed and that they should have made the 1st book in 8 episodes !
      But as a book reader, I loved this episode soooo much ! It foreshadows so much ! And Will is the most fascinating character / actor in the cast. His story is heartbreaking and way more compelling than Tianming's story in the books.

      When it comes to hard sci fi with great characterizations, I think season 1 Westworld probably did it best.
      It’s not like ensemble actors on 3 Body are terrible but they can’t hold a candle to Sir Anthony, Jeffrey Wright, Ed Harris, Thandie Newton or even Evan Rachel Wood. 3 Body’s characterizations are uneven and a bit simplistic.
