I still love that at the very end, despite being our enemy for so long, far longer than we were allies, Themis' memories of Pandaemonium were good enough that he could still consider us a friend. Many other stories would fail to make it feel genuine, but it works here.
"This I swore! ... to.. someone..!" this hurts so much. It must be agonizing to be ready to give your everything, for something you don't even remember, having to hold on to the thought that your goal was just, that your millenias of struggle were rightous, when you're not even sure who you are fighting for anymore.
Ah yes we interacted with him in so many forms: The Emissary, preserver of Equlibrium The Paragon of the Source Elidibus of the Convocation of the 14 Puppet Zenos, Bringer of Ruin Puppet Ardbert, the Warrior of Light Warrior of Light, Incarnate The Young Ancient, clamouring to the memories of his lost Friends Themis, the inquisitive Inquisitor Themis, the Ephemeral Justice and Themis our friend.
@@oJaymey As we fought him, yeah. Zodiark in it's original instance held Themis, Child Bearer of the Seat of Elidibus, as it's heart, or brains, I suppose would be more accurate. In the aftermath that caused Venat to sunder the world, Elidibus, through force of will, seperated himself from Zodiark and turned himself into a sort of Proto-Primal, which feeds on faith instead of aether, to continue his duty.
@@ezekielbaskerville2710 ah right yeah now that you say that I do remember it thank you for reminding me it is appreciated. Elidibus really did fulfill his role as emissary perfectly
What I most enjoy about Elidibus (and I love how it's rendered in your tribute) is that, at every point, he seems both extremely potent, and yet impotent. Extremely potent because there's hardly any threat as powerful as he is, whether it be because of his birth, his origin or his prowess. Impotent because he couldn't handle the task he has been given, incapable to defeat us even though we've battled against him several times - and always in a sort of pinnacle of a narration. Fighting against him never feels like encountering an end-game boss, it's a more universal battle, as if we'd confront Fate altogether.
I said this in a different video (spoilers up to EW) Much is talked about Zenos, but Elidibus gives me much more of a true rival vibe. The Emissary and the Traveler, he/she who would oppose the summoning and the Heart of Zodiark. The defender of Eorzea and the prince of Garlemald, the Warrior of Darkness and the Warrior of Light, the guiding star and the watcher. And always we must fight, always crossing paths, always in opposite sides, always clashing, but never losing respect for one another, never enjoying the struggle of having to finish off the other. And after each fight, saying goodbye, only to be drawn to each other again. In the Ghimlyt Dark, in the Seat of Sacrifice, in the Ocular, and finally in the Aetherial Sea. And maybe even in Amaurot long ago. Elidibus and his relation to us is subtle and often overlooked, but I really enjoy and feel it.
I'm not crying.... I'm weeping.... Wonderfully well done video. Left me a tad emotional, and that's the best compliment I can pay it. Thank you for sharing.
"The rains have ceased..." Me: No! NO! NO! DON'T! "And we have been graced with another beautiful day." Me: Oh my god... here it comes. "But you are not here to see it..." Me: I turn into a blubbering mess.
Still a character I consider to be the most heroic in the whole game in how he fought without cessation for his people's restoration after their unjust end, and even after Zodiark is no more, he still helps the main character in the name of the star when he could easily just have folded his arms and said no, after his hopes were ended.
This is phenomenal, amazing, fantastic. I love Elidibus/Themis as a character and the latest raid tier really elevated the character for me. The parallels you have so beautifully picked and displayed in this tribute were chefskiss. You picked amazing scenes ( The Azem flashback right after him recalling his promise to someone "most likely Azem" ouuuch) I wished you would have included the "You are death and only in death shall you find your purpose." shb scene together with his last cutscene in Paendemonium "And among these uncountable stars, it was yours that crossed my path. For that I shall be forever grateful." I think that contrast is such a nice display of how much the WoL/Azem (soul of azem, whatever) mattered to Elidibus. All in all amazing tribute, I'll be replaying all of these.
Poor Elidibuddy, i love this and the Emet-Selch videos. This video puts it in prospective that He remembered the promise for all that time, and was actually his driving force even after so long. Evento the point of forgetting it was us he made the promise to. It also makes you realize he was actually talkin' to us after the end of the SoS fight, and question if at that moment he remembered.
This is a beautiful tribute to an amazing character. The music choice, the scenes and lines are a powerful combination. Elidibus/Themis is one of my favorite characters. Thank you for making this.
Thinking of it now, it's very well maybe that his Warrior of Light primal form was, in fact, recollection of his memories of WoL back in Elpis. And if so, then in hatred for 'us' in present he called for something that he adored so much from the past, which also happens to be 'us'.

When he first appeared at the Waking Sands I thought he'd be just another Lahabrea.
Ishikawa, you monster
I could listen to his voice forever.
Ah yes we interacted with him in so many forms:
The Emissary, preserver of Equlibrium
The Paragon of the Source
Elidibus of the Convocation of the 14
Puppet Zenos, Bringer of Ruin
Puppet Ardbert, the Warrior of Light
Warrior of Light, Incarnate
The Young Ancient, clamouring to the memories of his lost Friends
Themis, the inquisitive Inquisitor
Themis, the Ephemeral Justice
and
Themis our friend.
The last one my heart he was a true friend no matter how long we were enemies he’ll be more of a friend to me I’ll truly miss him
And Zodiark.

He is the antagonist of the story, he's the weaver of everything that happens in the game long since the Waking Sands.
I'm so glad we got another dialogue with him. And the version that has a mostly clear mind.

Elidibus is my favorite Ascian. Such a tragic tale.
