Imagine if Blizzard would introduce Hyjal, the Emerald Dream, Karazhan Crypts etc. as actual zones and raids in classic. Same level cap, but more, new, classic, content.
Players : Look we found this thing! Devs: that's the Emerald Dream being considered for development and implementation. Druids: OMG finally gear and stuff for us!. Devs: NVM.
This is actually such a nice video. Wrath baby essentially and never played private servers so i dont want to rush to 60. Cant wait to explore the old world
Found GM Island long ago on Vanilla with my druid. Had no clue you could get banned over it. I was discovered by a GM who was impressed at my rp having probably watched me beforehand and after telling me the place was off limits, I kept up the rp and I guess he was impressed enough that he ported me to Orgrimmar (I was Alliance) as punishment.
Maybe emerald dream will be the content after 60 a couple of years from now and it will hopefully be "exceedingly difficult" so Classic actually gets some more real hard content. But TBC/WotLK servers with char copies are imo the safer and allmost more fullfilling way to go
Dude i feel you.... Back in the day my favorite thing to do was exploring in wow... thats why i never got to lvl 60 during vanilla (58 when TBC came out RIP) :D i was a noob and got too sidetracked exploring always... the only places i haven't been in that you showed in the video are designers isle and the emerald dream. And the Emerald dream was the thing i wanted to visit the most, it also left a void in my heart. I played in Legion and yeah they had the emerald nightmare and they had a encounter with the 4 dragons that had portals that had you going through them, but i'm really sad that because of that they have checked over doing the Emerald Dream since "oh yeah we did a raid, that's enough". I wish it was in TBC/Classic too.
Many of these locations were discovered by Dopefish back in the day. His WoW videos on exploration is still among the best videos ever made about this game.He even discovered an early version of Outland two years before TBC-release. I recommend checking the videos out, they are here on RUclips. Adding the links here in case anyone is interested, hope thats OK. Quality editing even 14 years later. Exploration the Movie: ruclips.net/video/UWMz7-7SGlo/видео.html Nogg-aholic the Movie: ruclips.net/video/UDQyEe06Q-M/видео.html
As a kid watching those videos, I cried at the end of Nogg-aholic in that credits roll when they said they wouldn't be making any more videos, and still to this day the song Where is my Mind is emotional to me because of it. they were so inspirational to me because I just loved exploring and finding little secret places, and those videos gave me so much to work with for methods of getting outside the intended boundaries, they greatly shaped my vanilla wow experience for sure.
In other words: enough great potential for content after Naxx if that happens at all. Btw: Holy crap The Emerald Dream looks BEYOND epic, it's just so beautiful!
You forgot the developer's playground for early outland elements below deadmines. If you have never seen it, jump onto the pipe right behind the portal, then clip through the wall in front of you. You will need some time and slowfall, though. Go forward, down the cliff, then turn left and run for a while. You can see the Dalaran shield glittering in the distance. There it is. Looks awesome.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who remembered that.. the island was still awesome though, and a secret to most! You get a swim potion to get to the island on retail.
Mark Kern explained not that long ago that the Emerald Dream was supposed to be an after death experience. You die, you enter the Emerald Dream. An area where you can do quests, explore, whatever. With a way to get to life, back to Azeroth as well.
Didn't speak about the clickable bell in BB (doesn't do anything tho') and the lost farm along the south coast of tanaris. drank beers with some guild mates and a GM there in retail, Epic moments of my vanilla life :p. Great video btw, leaned 2 or 3 sweet places !
Every single place mentioned is still accessible in classic wow except for gm island(maybe) emerald dream and programmar island. I've been to a lot of these places myself. some of the old methods that were used back in vanilla still work in classic, but not all of them unfortunately. It would be awesome to see more videos like this from you! i've been a fan for awhile but somehow missed this upload. :( great video!
no mention of the secret shrine in org. it felt pretty bannable but some dude showed it to me like in bfa and its still there. its got a shrine with the initials of a dev who was working on wow and passed away before it went live.
Also, yes, there was a reworked Emerald Dream in Legion as a raid - "The Emerald Nightmare". It is canonically inside the Emerald Dream and at the end there's even one of the OG statue heads in the ground. Have a look on youtube because it was actually really fucking cool - though not in the sense the original would have been. I really hope they use the unfinished and teased content (specifically Emerald Dream, Kara, and Hyjal) as content after 1-2 years of classic. Going the OSRS route while keeping some servers on "forever classic" mode would be perfect and a dream come true.
A cool thing is that in the new revamped version of darkshore used for warfronts in 8.1.5 the shatterspear village is a world quest area for alliance where you have to fly on a hippogryph and throw elven glaves at the trolls which still have that insane density
I'm late to the party on this video so people have probably already said it in the comments but: -the trick for getting through the glass in the tram (maybe you didn't say for fear of ban) was just setting up a macro which took up a lot of bandwidth, make your character toggle sit/stand hundreds of times per second, while walking forward, lag yourself out and log back in and you're on the other side. -as for GM Island, wasn't it that you swim to coordinates 0,0,0 on the map (northwest of teldrassil WAY into fatigue waters and then swim straight down way past drowning level) and when you reach that spot it teleported you to gm island, I never tried it in time for that to be removed back in the day, but that makes sense to me from a game design perspective, because they way gm's could just reset their character's location and it would automatically teleport them there easily
Good memories. And fyi, yeah there was a raid teir in legion that took place in the Emerald dream. No open zone tho :( Worth a visit tho, the visuals, lore etc were pretty good
In Stormwind, at the canals by the bank, of you jump from the barrel onto next to the torch you will fall through Stormwind and be underneath it and it's just a large flat plane but it's still cool and accessible in the classic servers
You forgot a lot of places that was accessible easily in the public normal servers: 1. Stonetalon Mountains: was the easiest to enter and with a lot of stuff there. 2. Thunder falls - also easy to enter. 3. Stormwind below the city / stormwind the huge empty area north of the city. 4. Wetlands Farm - access from IronForge airfield. 5. IronForge mountain top. Very hard to enter / almost impossible: Old IronForge (by correct jumping from the gate to no-where near IronForge airfield. Also at last back then it was possible to change the commands to/from the WoW servers so it was possible to change your character location a little bit to the side of your current location, so it was possible to access almost any other places by just telling the server to move into them. For example: If your current location was X,Y,Z and you only need to be a little top/left to enter a secret zone, then just send that location to the server. Even with the any hacking check from the server it'll work because you didn't move too much from your current location.
What gets me is that we used to have devs that cared so much about players that they added stuff for us to look at while we were on a long flight path. Most of the time I would go on a long FP and just grab food or use it as a 10 minute break.
Man I play druid back in vanilla wow and would have been so happy if they amped up druids with some Emerald Dream element. Idk what they were thinking, but I bet it could have been a amazing addition to Vanilla.
If you jump into wetlands from IF airport there are some cool farms there. There’s also a way to get to where those dwarves are fighting an elite dragon above Elwynn forest. From there you can get to a waterfall and cool little pond in the elwynn hills. The SW flightpath goes over this area. It’s fun to get there as horde and wave to alliance as they fly by lol.
I tried getting into the emerald dream countless ways in vanilla and the closest thing i could find was a giant green light/orb off the side of ashenvale. You have to go through a insane series of wall jumps just to find this light but each time I jumped to it, it teleported me. Be interesting to see someone find this green light again.
I think that headless statue is actually in the game at the entrance of uc. On the wayside of where the rosepedals are spreaded on the ground. From which we know how they got there through the Warcraft 3 cinematic. :-)
The Emerald Dream was actually supposed to be the next Expansion after Burning Crusade.. then Blizzard got lazy and ruined it, and gave us a shitty version of it later. Big letdown. I want to see the original Emerald Dream as it was meant to be seen. Great vid.
Emerald dream looks like, WAOH!!!!!!!!!!! ( never seen till today xD) Im praying for a classic+ content, thanks for the video, i really like the secret zones. Peace
Some of this stuff you mentioned that was "just put in as scenery for a flight" was actually in the Alpha and Beta versions of WoW (like the airfield, which originally was accessible from Old Ironforge) ac actual player areas. In fact, in the Alpha/Beta clients of WoW, Ironforge, Orgrimmar and The Undercity were _dramatically_ bigger than what came with Launch. Those were known, collectively, as Old Ironforge, Old Orgrimmar, and Old Undercity. Multiple levels, not just one or two, and very VERY easy to get lost in, which is probably why all three were scaled back. While Old Ironforge was for some reason still accessible through player tricks in Retail, Old Undercity and Old Orgrimmar were wiped out completely, and could only be seen through old videos of run-throughs from the Alpha/Beta clients, and are very rare indeed. You mention that "the structure of Karazan was included in the Vanilla client, and this is actually not true. The original structure, as seen in a couple run-through exploration videos of the time, was DRAMATICALLY bigger even on the outside, and much more menacing-looking. As a fun little aside....not only was a rudimentary Emerald Dream zone in the Vanilla client, but also was an early Hellfire Peninsula, complete with a (much smaller) Dark Portal.
The earlier stuff you said is definitely right, and I feel ive heard that before! Good information, you know your stuff. I mentioned the "old Karazhan" structure while showing the clips of the older version of it. Im also aware of the hellfire zone and older dark portal!
Why did I expect this to be a bad vaulty video ? Thanks god it’s not, nice video man, I wonder if Blizzard will scrap them in classic or they will still be there
They literally changed the client side of things to read the original game data, and didn't edit/re-create the whole world or anything. So it'll all still be there, but there is speculation as to whether or not the necessary wall jumping mechanics will still be in place, because the client, world and anti-cheat code has evolved.
Surprised the Twilight Highlands (Cata) aren't in here. I got in their by wall jumping in the northwest corner of Loch Modan. No structures or mobs, just a few large holes in the ground.
9:50 It was just a part of Karazhan, but blizz realized that won't be ok in china and china buys a lot 4Head You know, they wanted the least age restriction for the game, which actually paid out, and the reason crypts are scrapped is simple, really. :D But imagine the crypt with like 3+ bosses and tons of trash. *Damn. :D*
There is another spot outside karazhan dungeon, but just available for female Undead characters. You must face the main entrance, then go to the back, then in one of the corners of the building is a hole on the floor. You can go down on it and you will see a smiley face on the floor.
I don't know if you just didn't think of them or don't know about them but there are 2 other zones i know of that you missed. Azshara crater and Old Outland those are really cool places.
The Emerald Nighrmare raid is you basically kill a boss go into all these portals that take you to different places I believe it’s suppose to be the Emerald Dream equivalent of TB, Grizzly Hills, Thunder Bluff, Moonglad and one more that I forget but corrupted by Xavius and there Old Gods anyway you kill Xavius and the Emerald Dream is restored though you only see a tiny piece of it and you can see a tiny piece of void corruption inside the big tree in the middle of the area. Then in BFA there’s a quest that takes you there and you can acquire the piece of the void which has grown a little which is just a white item with some flavor text. Not what we were promised but something is better than nothing
New content for classic after nax is a great idea. 18 months in we will be burned out otherwise. Get Kevin Jordan and Mark Staats a short term contract to over see new content.
Love the video, but same time i feel shitty, was such great memories from back then, remember going to some of these places, felth so damn great and it was a time i never going to forget, i loved the game, maybe to much, but up to now i never ever found a single game like wow ever again, i really do miss those times so fucking much, playing with friends exploring crazy places and having dreams of the future of the game to, like hyjal you see raids and such great areas, but in the end blizz started focusing more on the money than game play and all we got now is a mill dailys and 1 click dungon/raids. Really wish they had made classic+ could added emerald dream and hyjal for that sake and added raids and such, but instead just copy pasting tbc for some quick cash and adding a store to tbc to will earn them more money in the quick runn....
I think the crator at Hyjal is supposed to be a result of the Battle against Archimonde. And the Emerald Dream DID come in Legion, so if you didn't play, it's a shame since you missed on that amazing raid.
Imagine if Blizzard would introduce Hyjal, the Emerald Dream, Karazhan Crypts etc. as actual zones and raids in classic. Same level cap, but more, new, classic, content.
I think the No-Changes Squad would be really upset.
i would LOVE that. simply convert/open up some sort of classic+ servers and let the no changes crowd stay on the old servers.
unswenko then you’re gonna further split the subscriber base. It’s alrdy gonna be bad enough with classic vs retail. CAnt really split classic too
OMG WHATS NEXT LFR!?!!1??!
jk 😉
Classic WoW no more

Cool to see in retail WoW you actually go into Old Ironforge to get your Heritage armor. And it looks similar today too
who else is binge watching punkrat videos

Pretty harsh considering that exploration is part of the game....
Mount hyjal might be one of my favorite raids ever. Just overall so much fun!
Man, I didn't know you could just walk up there... I wall-hopped up the end of the ridge to get to the Ironforge Airstrip.
Maybe emerald dream will be the content after 60 a couple of years from now and it will hopefully be "exceedingly difficult" so Classic actually gets some more real hard content.

I do like how the dragon guarded portals eventually became of use from the druid class hall. That was a nice touch by Blizzard.

Just the video I needed after Asmon/Esfand piqued my interest after getting into Kara
Noone of them even mentioned the giant smiley face that's under Karazhan. Or tried accessing it in the Beta. Definitely more secret than the crypts.
The South Sea Islands look like a scrapped bg, since it’s gnome buildings on one side and goblins on the other.
Goblins were all neutral in vanilla tho...
It’s part of the scarab lord quest.
Good stuff dude! I loved this video... I am very excited to see the Classic servers a month out. Ready to enjoy a blast from the past!

yes! good call

Really wish they had made classic+ could added emerald dream and hyjal for that sake and added raids and such, but instead just copy pasting tbc for some quick cash and adding a store to tbc to will earn them more money in the quick runn....
Is that a modified ashenvale forest song towards the end?
Basicly classic is open for future content with unused teritory
You forgot the deadmines blink trick that took you below deadmines and had outland floating trees and such.
Robert Morris
He didn’t forget he picked his top 10....
above deadmines is pretty cool
The South Seas islands aren't really secret considering there is a quest in the game that sends you there. It's a Vanilla quest.
Godspeed friend! Love your videos!
I, for one, am gonna make my goal reaching the "Bengal Tiger Cave"
I miss nerd-jumping into Mt Hyjal and visiting Archimonde's skeleton
They should have a wow classic dev team that creates new classic content
What's the soundtrack around 19:10 ?
What the song at the end?
World of Warcraft Soundtrack - Song of Elune
That headless statue is outside undercity.
Isn't that statue one of the ones uptop above Undercity?
Emerald dream was early nagrad iirc, they wanted outlands in classic
Good video my dude!
I wouldnt say deadwind was useless since youd get the lvl 60 strenght enchant from ogre mobs there
No quests etc, just wasnt an active zone with towns etc.
great video man :)
I think the crator at Hyjal is supposed to be a result of the Battle against Archimonde.
And the Emerald Dream DID come in Legion, so if you didn't play, it's a shame since you missed on that amazing raid.
Here before the channel blows up
I HOPE THEY USE HYJAL IN CLASSIC WOW 2019 ! :DDDDDDDDDD
Punkrat whered you go i miss you so feels like its been forever since you did show
Us a youtube video
Sadly I think Swifty might be losing his mental faculties. At least it appears that way when you watch his Classic stream :P
Old Outland hidden in the deadmines :)
