      Not only that, the fact he addresses Carlton not as his "son" but as "someone dear to Will" is so smooth and better. It's not alienating Will from the "main" family nor making uncle Phil resentful towards him, it shows he cares for Will as if he was his own son and wants Will to realize that.

    I'm equally impressed with how Uncle Phil dealt with it. He didn't explode in a fit of impotent rage or start yelling at him abusively; he countered every defence Will had with rational, valuable responses - that he shouldn't even be contemplating taking drugs, that his carelessness almost killed someone close to him, and could have hurt him as well. Then, knowing that Will owned up because he felt remorseful, he decides to make him apologise to the family because he knows that doing so will drive the point home. And then when Will breaks down crying, he goes and hugs him, just to let him know that the lesson has been learned, and everything's okay. Like a proper father.

    I love that Uncle Phil’s anger and fear are not just because of Carlton, but Will too.
    He treated Will and Carton as equal sons of his.
    He was just harder on Will because he needed it. He needed a father, a strict but loving one.
    In my head cannon Will didn’t get into “one little fight and his mom got scared”
    I bet she could see he was heading down a dark path in the future. Living in a neglected project, surrounded by gangs, drugs and crime.
    I mean Will was all she had, and she sent him across the country. She’s lucky she had the chance to give Will a new life in Bel Air, a life with lots of potential.
    I mean can you imagine how much it hurt her to decide to send him away for his own good.

Honest to god, this is some of the best acting I've ever seen. 100% relatable, and it makes you wonder if there was actually something going on at that moment because it looked so real, it makes you doubt it was even acting at all. If an actor can manage that, they are top notch. I saw this show when I was a little kid, but never in its entirety, and never with the capability to fully comprehend everything. I always love the simple detail that, while Will picks on Carlton, anyone else does it and Will steps up immediately to shut it down.
      He is a big brother to Carlton. For all his cousin's goofballness, nobody bullies Carlton but him.
      He loves his cousin a lot, so nearly causing his death must have been devastating to him. Absolutely devastating.

      The way it was said and delivered never ceases to amaze me or make me sob a bit. Will knew he did something horribly wrong and owned up to it like a man and while he broke down, he had the family there to help him through and give him comfort. THAT, is family. Real family. Something a lot of shows don’t show anymore. Easily one of my personal favorite episodes

    What I liked about this episode is the fact that when I was growing up in the 1980's, sitcoms showed that kids were forced by other kids to use drugs in order to fit in with the cool crowd. In this episode, we know that Will is cool and that he would not do drugs to fit in with the cool crowd, nor would he ever tell anyone else to do them to be cool.
    Kind of makes me wonder how Jazz would do with drugs.

    This is why I love 90’s sitcoms and this show cause it showed comedy, social justice, emotional topics that got us touch bases in our heart. Uncle Phil will forever be will father in fresh prince of bell air. Even though he was angry at will for what he did wrong, will own up to his mistakes and apologizing for what he did. Uncle Phil really didn’t want to get angry cause those stuff happen in our life blood is thicker than water. That why uncle Phil will be a legend of fresh prince

  • @andywang8125
    @andywang8125 3 года назад +7

    For people saying Uncle Phil is solely blaming Will, remember earlier in the episode, Uncle Phil and Aunt Viv already scolded Carlton for taking random pills and for "ruining Will's prom" as a result.
    Carlton told Will he wasn't going to ever tell anyone where he got the pills from so he definitely took some blame on himself as well. Will's conscious got the better of him at the end when he realized this whole thing happened because he had those pills in the first place and it was his turn to apologize.
