  • Big Boy 4014 is one of the most famous locomotives in history. It was built in the 1940s, and has been recognized as the “most famous and celebrated steam locomotive in the world”. The locomotive has played an important role in the development of the Union Pacific Railroad, and holds a place of pride and admiration in railway history.
Big Boy 4014 was built in 1944 and is the only one of the Big Boy class steam locomotives still in operation today. The engine and its thirty-one cars are over 300 feet long and are capable of pulling a 3,600 ton load. It is one of the largest steam engines in the world and has run up to 90 miles an hour in the past.
Since 2013, Big Boy 4014 has been part of an ongoing national tour and has made stops in numerous cities, giving people a chance to witness a piece of history in action. It is truly remarkable to see this locomotive in action, especially knowing that it is the only one of its kind. Even more incredible is the spectacle of seeing thirty-one cars all coupled together, being pulled by the mighty Big Boy.
Big Boy 4014 holds a special place in railway history and its power and grandeur are something that all who have had a chance to see it in action will always remember. It is a testament to the legacy of the Union Pacific Railroad that has helped move this great nation forward.
