  • The Nea Genia group of the Orpheus Hellenic Folklore Society presented songs and dances from the island of Paros at HDF in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
The presentation is centered in the carnival (Apokries) season in the island of Paros, where the main dance is the Ageranos, performed thru a variety of songs, along with the sounds of tsabouna, that dominates the dances of that season. The celebration here takes place in a home setting, among family and friends. We would like to express our gratitude to Giorgos Liaros for his advice and sharing his resources for this presentation.
The Nea Genia group was awarded the Bronze Award (fourth place) at the Senior category.
The group was also awarded the Costume award for their Nea Vyssa costumes.
We would like to also acknowledge the musicians that accompanied the Paros suite: Izaki Metropoulos (violin, vocals), Sophia Metropoulos (laouto, vocals), Thodoros Katsimaris (tsabouna, vocals) and Katerina Periali (toumbaki)
Directors: Yannis Economou and Christina Kokoris
