I've finally decided that 2025 is going to be the year where I attempt to write a novel and start writing properly. I've got an idea, need to develop it, and learn how to make an outline. On an unrelated note, I just like to say how much I love your videos. I've been watching for a few years and your advice is so genuinely helpful and practical.
First, a writing recap video and now a goals video - We're eating good 😌🙏🏾 Jokes aside, your goals feel completely doable! I want to finish writing and publish two books this year 😅 A little delusion might go a looooooong way lol
hoping to be able to write a bit more in 2025 but I don't have any established goals because my top priority rn is to not be homeless and sort out my mental health crisis (I feel like so far the 2020s have been my life falling apart in the even number years and me recovering from my life falling apart in the odd number years so here's hoping to a recovery year next year and not more shit)
I like your goals! They sound very doable! 😍 Can you make a video explaining how you got agented for a short story collection? I feel like that’s harder than doing it for a novel. I’ve queried one of my novellas before and it was an experience! Some of my 2025 goals: - Read 100 books - Be the best writing instructor I can be (teaching three writing classes online this year with Women On Writing or Clarion West: a one day workshop, a six-week class, and an eight-week class) - Finish the first draft (and one or two revisions, maybe) of my YA horror novel - Write more short stories - Keep submitting the short stories I already have - Apply to any TV writing fellowships/opportunities I haven’t applied for yet - Write 1 or 2 new TV pilots - Keep querying my PhD dissertation novel until I can hopefully get a literary agent
Ahhh love love love your goals!! Best of luck this year!! I didn’t get agents for the collection itself, per se; my agent reached out to me after reading my work. My short story collection is the most finished manuscript which is why we’re going down that route at the moment (though that could change etc)!
Happy new years, Rachel! Excited for another year of your vids :) weirdly in 2024 I also ran more than I wrote (weirdest outcome possible for me let me tell ya)
Is Lost Gods part of the Fostered Extended Universe (FEU) or new characters entirely? Personal goals are revising my thesis novel (and writing the rest of the thesis as well woops), and maybe starting another novel in the fall (actually also a novelization of a previous work!)
FOSTERED EXTENDED UNIVERSE LOL I LOVE IT!! It is, sort of. I can’t write it properly KNOWING the character is canonically Harrison haha, so he’ll go by Harry most likely so I can have that distance, if not it’ll feel too weird to write him haha. Basically pitching it as if Harrison was playing himself in a movie, the same but different! Nice to hear your goals!! Good luck!!
It's good to know it's still fresh feelings when you've been doing it for awhile! Keep dreaming! F**k the fear, achieve and succeed!
Love that you gave yourself a year of goals to chill and rest your mind. Hope you accomplish all of your 2025 goals!

I am so proud of you. This is the year I write my first Novel.
2:35 Few goals means focused goals! They're definitely big goals, but you've totally got this :D

The case of Kenneth Lee? That was deeply upsetting :(
