cassie is definitely a deconstruction of the manic pixie dream girl trope, she does some pretty terrible things throughout the series and is a very complex, well rounded character.
Chris didn’t OD... it was a brain haemorrhage... like his brother... how did you not get that... I’m sorry but like it’s a pretty big plot point🤦♂️🤦♂️
Yeah but it takes place later in the series and that whole narrative was pretty short. I felt kind of blindsided by the pacing there... Easy to see why, despite how sad it was, someone could forget why he died and remember it as an OD
I think the manic pixie dream girl archetype is not as easily defined though but I totally get your point and I agree about Cassie. Maybe that's what's so great about skins and it's in this sense that people talk about it as "realistic". The pixie type of charachter in movies usually gets a lot of positive attention for their quirky behaviour, but in real life it's usually the opposite that happens. Most people don't like weird people because you can only like what you understand. So yea in real life people probably would feel uncomfortable around weird acting people bc they get a sense of something being off (hence why this persons acting funny). So at least imo the whole romantic aspect of the boy falling for a manic pixie is that he ends up seeing the beauty in their quirky self bc he starts caring for her. And that's kind of what happened with Sid. Not only did he not like Cassie at the beginning bc he loved Michelle, but bc he thought Cassie was weird. Just like his other friends thought. So when he fell in love with her, that was going beyond the quirky first sight of her. It was deeper because he started not only to know something may be off, but to care about it in a sympathetic way: like, why is she like this? Seeing beyond what the "normal" people would think of her to realize she's also beautiful, not only beyond her inadequacy, but precisely because of it. That's what made her unique and lovable. Exactly what an unmotivated guy like Sid needed, something extra-ordinary to cheer him up while the ordinary world wasn't enough to stirr some passion into him.
i just found your channel a few days ago, and let me just say that you are wonderful! so far, each one of your videos that i’ve seen are so well thought out and just amazing, and omg the reddie one is almost iconic and very true. keep on being great:)
I only just subscribed like,,, two days ago, but you’re so good at voicing your opinions and stuff and I feel like we have the same views and everything but anyways I love your videos and I feel like I yell “YES! THANK YOU!” At the screen every few minutes while watching them lol please keep making these videos, they’re amazing!
I love your analysis on one of my favorite shows! Would you be interested in personal criticism for a screenplay I'm working on for a high school series? I'd love more insight for fans of the genre
@@sailormooniii Then shes a pixie dream girl with depth. But effy isnt a character that can survive without others. Like, forget the whole make protagonist part, in gemeral shes a catalyst for other characters. Season 1, it was her and tony, season 2, She was a catalyst for Syd to grow a pair with Cassie and our introduction to Pandora. Season 3, shes developing freddie and Cooks characters. Shes ironically a main character but also a background character.

yesyesyes, I totally agree with all of this!! skins was filmed in my hometown so I've literally re-watched it 10000 times aha.

But was it like skins to be a teen living there haha it would be a bummer if it was not
@@flackokay2847 well it kinda would’ve been a bummer if it was
Is there as big a mix of accents in Bristol as there is with the Skins cast? Just curious 🤣

No, she’s the trope of the glorified cool depressed mysterious party girl-not the manic pixie dream girl.
