    I’m 2 weeks into my first Apple Watch and think screen scratches would definitely be more noticeable/bothersome than body scratches. (Why I’m debating a screen protector but am pretty set on not using a case for daily use.) However, an extra $300 for the SS model is just way more than I’m willing to spend for a watch. I would pay up to $150 more for a sapphire screen on an aluminum body wo cellular.

    The Apple Watch Editions in Titanium and Ceramic are the way to go. Both cases are more scratch and smudge resistant (Ceramic is basically impervious to both) than the steel, and it's got the sapphire display. Plus I think they're the best looking.

Physically my space grey aluminum series 2 has held up terribly, of course it’s usable but god damn the screen is so scratched it’s been a matte texture for a year, the body has a ton of dents and scratches that show the white/silver aluminum. @@USMCPFC1 Maybe I even read that in the apple store, otherwise in many different fora. More prone to small blemishes than anodised aluminium. However, as mentioned above, because it is not anodised it can also be buffed (or whatever, rubbing with oily stuff so it’s good as new) and overall it is much more enduring for any mechanical stress (other than those minuscule scratches), I believe. The screen is completely better, so overall it’s much more durable and maintainable, especially in the long run - even if you see little white stripes quicker (at least you can make them disappear) :/ I’m sure you’ll be happy I just started learning about it and might go for such luxury for my first one! The biggest argument against me is that apparently those devices are not meant for long term but I will help defying that! xD

    • @Aztaec
      @Aztaec 2 года назад +1

      @@USMCPFC1 yes it scrateches easier. Thats because of the mirror finish. It is very sensitive. A rough aluminium finish is a bit more robust. Of course Stainless Steel is harder. And the killer argument for the Steel Version is the saphire Glass. This wont scratch at all!

    Hi, Thanks for all of the content you create. Was super helpful in me choosing the right band, watch and accessories when deciding to dive into an apple watch. HUGE help. But I have 1 MAJOR gripe that I'm hoping someone like you can bring some light to since you seem to do lots of interval training with your watch. I NEED the stopwatch and timer app/function on my watch during workouts and in other areas of my life. What I don't understand is if I use it as an app it no matter what it will fade out and bring up a digital clock of the actual time. Yeah sure I can change it to 70 seconds but what if i'm doing a 90 second plank? Or if I swing my arm down it immediately fades out.
    I literally bought the always on watch so I could have this be always on but alas, its just not. The workout app doesn't fade out which is helpful so I can just use that and do the math in my head I guess but the stopwatch doesn't? That just doesn't make sense. Is there any pro tip you can give me as a work around?

      even 10 to 50k watches from rolex and patek are made from the same 316L stainless steel as the apple watch. I think a $250-$300 premium for the better looking material, the more scratch resistant glass and cellular connectivity which all the ss watches have, is not that bad of a deal.

    • @radicalxedward8047
      @radicalxedward8047 4 года назад +1

      Marco Elkes
      The glass and cellular, etc I agree. Maybe not $2-300, but in principle. But the steel isn’t a more premium material.
      Even Rolex isn’t charging more for steel because steel is special. But that’s exactly the sort of comparison Apple wants people to make. They want people to compare them to a luxury / prestige brand like Rolex or breitling, not a consumer electronics brand (or even a luxury consumer electronics brand)

    • @MarcoElkes
      @MarcoElkes 4 года назад

      RadicalxEdward as I do agree with you that apple is a consumer brand. They definitely are in the more premium market. They have things like a $999 stand and $700 wheels and even the $1250 ceramic watch to keep up a kind of luxury look. They can just charge more cuz they are apple and people are willing to pay more for the steel version.

    • @radicalxedward8047
      @radicalxedward8047 4 года назад

      Marco Elkes
      Totally. They used to be the Lexus of tech. Expensive, upscale, etc. but now they have the image of a Bugatti or rolls Royce, the super premium high end (same as Rolex) despite still making Lexuses.
      My point wasn’t that they can charge more because they’re a luxury consumer electronics brand. They can charge more for anything because of that and often do.
      My point was why stainless steel. It’s not like they’re making carbon fiber cases. Even the ceramic ones I understood because A. They’re far more scratch resistant (better function, better looks) and B. It’s a totally different manufacturing process.
      But aluminum vs steel isn’t dramatically different. They could have easily reversed the two and said the stainless one is the cheap one and the “light weight aircraft grade aluminum” or whatever is the more expensive one.
      I think they went steel as they more expensive one because people often think heavy = quality when it comes to jewelry.

  • @impendio
    @impendio 3 года назад +7

    I’d still wouldn’t pay for the stainless steel or the titanium watches, in the end they are consumer electronics that will get out-spec’d in 3 to 4 years top, I’d rather have the aluminium one (space grey is objectively the best color) and get a series 9 or and SE 2023 or whatever later down the line for about the same money as a stainless steel one with a fancy band.

    did Apple forget that mirror polished stainless steel only looks good for that one day when you unbox it. that finish gets a scratch on it if you look at it wrong. we went through this with the old ipods with the stainless steel back. they should have went with brushed stainless steel that hides scratches better.

    If you could get a polished aluminum watch, it would scratch just as easy, i know that is not the question here, in my opinion if you have
    the black SS it will scratch just as easy, but hide it better than the silver.

    I think the titanium version of the Apple Watch, even thought it's expensive, it also has a more matte (rather than polished) finish to the watch case. Then I also think that the titanium version would also come with a sapphire screen? If you can fork out the extra money for it, it really does seem like it could be the best of both worlds for you, Aaron

    JerryRig Everything 😱😱😱
    Thanks for you review Aaron, much appreciated 🥰🥰🥰
    Also, to be fair, one should polish the SS case with a simple polishing cloth and see what’s eventually left in terms of scratches whereas this is impossible on the aluminium body 😉 Let’s keep that in mind IMO.
    Also either a graphite or gold SS body will hold up far better...due to their respective coatings.
