A fun story - this last weekend my wife and kids and I were camping in Steamboat Springs, and we were both wondering where Dixie was along the trail. On our way home we were coming down Rabbit Ears Pass and drove past a hiker going up the pass. We didn't think anything of it at first and then it hit me - that was Dixie! We kept driving down the hill debating if that was Dixie when we drove past Aaron. So we turned around and drove back up the hill. "Hey - are you Dixie??" "I am". So we pulled over and chatted for a few minutes. Such a sweet young lady - just so nice. My kids were very excited. So, Hi again Dixie from Matt and Rebecca. Keep up the great work!

Another great episode. I'm really loving your CDT journey. I loved your other two as well but this one seems to me more of a wilderness experience, and spiritual experience. Maybe because you've been alone hiking a good part of it and that gives you more time for self reflection. Those mountain goats coming up over the rise was amazing, and the paper left in the cheese was hilarious. Thank You Dixie

WOW, Really well done and enjoyable episodes,
I agree with what Paul Smart said:
"Thank you for allowing so many of us escape for a few minutes every Wednesday."
I am new to backpacking and can't wait to get back out on the trail. In the meantime, your
videos are such a relief to watch. They wisk me away from my work-a-day world !
    Thank you

I've been sort of overwhelmed by school and that type of pressure regarding career and life, and this episode really was a comfort to me. I'm really appreciative of what you do Ms. Dixie because it inspires and motivates me to do what I do. It's much more than just entertainment. I consider what you do as godsend for people like me who still are going through the quotidian, pushin on each day until I am able to do what I love. So thank you very much.

More fabulous footage of stunning scenery! I don't think I've ever craved salt and vinegar chips at breakfast time before - but today I did :) That scree looked really challenging, you're inspiring me to do more adventurous things on my own, rather than worrying so much that I might injure myself which then stops me from doing that thing rather than just carefully going forward. Thanks Dixie.

Dixie, you are most definitely not a follower. You have led the way for many folks to find the courage and will to challenge themselves and push their boundaries. I look forward to each video you put out. I’ve not recreational hiked, but, I remember many miles in the Army with an old Alice style metal framed pack weighing about 85 lbs. along with a rifle in boots that had no arch support whatsoever and were sized by someone smoking crack. I also remember the satisfaction of making the checkpoints and clearing serious mileage everyday all the while in places few humans had been in modern times. Beautiful vistas and views and a night sky that just sparkles with wonder. Made the bullets, mortars, RPG’s and bombs worth it. God Bless you! Keep on ‘trekking! By the way, I think we need to add 2 initials to your trail name. I think you should be known as Dixie M.G. Since I feel you qualify as a Mountain Goat with the terrain you’ve traversed. Anyone else agree? 😜

In the Army, 45 years ago, the expression was " lead, follow or get out of the way". Thanks for taking us along. I now treat myself to a couple of your older videos(the AT) each day. You are a remarkable young woman with a great sense of humor.
I am a retired civil engineer and retired Army engineer officer. My 40 year career had a lot of great times as a soldier, a town engineer, and a field inspection engineer. I had two periods where I was working in corporate engineering and they were not fun. They made combat engineering look good. I suspect that you were in a corporate engineering job when you escaped. When your wandering days are slowing down, you might want to work for the US Forest Service, the National Park Service or a state's park service. It can keep you outside. Good Luck

They are going to pave the W. side of Cottonwood Pass. Thinking about your encounter with the cougar, you were very lucky. People, esp. a woman alone is easy prey. Just below N. of Taylor Res. when I was about 8-9 a mountain lion was following me about 50 feet back, but luckily another guy spotted it and shot at it. You might consider carrying one of those handheld air horns like they have on inland boats. They are very loud and will scare the crap out of predator. Love your trek through the Colligate Peak area. My Id stands for when I joined the Colo. Mt. Club, that's why I am so familiar with this area.

I haven't read the comments below so sorry if this is a repeat, but I got told that a craving for chips is often your body telling your it is short of something. Magnesium and/or Salt (Sodium or Pottasium). I get the same when I'm out for a while sweating and moving. I do magnesium chelate/orotate supplements now because it also helps with cramps and twitching legs at the end of a long stretch.

Totally understand the cheese-paper. I ate most of a sub sandwich complaining about what I thought was ham gristle/fat. Chewing and chewing and swallowing. Eventually realized I was eating the paper from between the cheese slices. Oh well. Fiber, right?Dixie, again you provide us with BEAUTIFUL views, excitement, deep thoughts, positive attitude, cool critters. Dreaming of my next hike. Will likely take my son (12 year old) on a weekend outing to have "the man talk" (Passport to Purity). Looking forward to it. Like Captain/General Li Shang says . . . "I'll make a man out of you." You know, when I'm out hiking I almost always make more miles in shorter time than I had planned and It's most always less pain during/after to. Can't enplane it but if I plan a few miles or just an hour because I only have a short time available, I end up out for longer and get farther and it makes me feel better in the end. Maybe its because there are so many negatives in my life and I want more positives.
Your making good time Dixie! Thanks for sharing! Sending fair weather and smooth travels from NC.

Every time I watch you hiking through this beautiful country I keep hearing Seals and Crofts "We May Never Pass This Way Again" in my head. I hope you do take all the time you can to savor it to its fullest and still safely make it to Canada. At the same time, I just lmao wondering what type of doo doo reference you're going to include in the weekly video!!! The deadpan remark about the porta potty being 10 minutes too late - priceless!!! Seeing that country through your interpretive eyes is a real treat... Ever On!!!

OK, really weird moment... "We May Never Pass This Way Again was released in 1973, the same year I cycled from Michigan to Mexico on my trusty Schwinn Supper Sport, Brooks leather saddle and all. The twenty year old never did pass that way again... The song was released as a single on a 45 (further dating me) and the B side of the hit was a lovely blend of harmonies called "Jessica." I think Jim Seals and Dash Crofts must have seen you out there on the horizon and knew what would be a huge part of your life. Strange stuff, but pretty dang cool!
