R.I.P. Brownsville KA We were at a lost for words when the news initially was brought to our attention. KA has been a standout artist on this channel for years so we absolutely had to make this video to let more of the community know just how AMAZING of an artist we just lost. We kindly ask that you only comment things that contribute to his legacy underneath this video as respect to both him and his family. We appreciate everyone who have been sending us love for being the ones to help you discover KA as well. (Sidenote since some think I’m not serious about this. If your comment comes off as blatant disrespect or overall untimely IT WILL BE REMOVED. There’s a time and place for everything. DO NOT choose this video to voice complaints of any form)
First time listening ka Honor Killed the Samurai first listen to this album. I’m loving i”m fan of his music rest peace Amazing lyrical rapper ever heard
I cried for an hour on my sofa. As a 40-year old-old man who has already lost so many. This hurt so much. I had spoken to Ka over email for years and he ALWAYS hit me back. He even read a song I wrote for my dearly departed brother and called it beautiful. How many people get to talk to their idol. Never mind them be an incredible person. The news honestly ripped my heart and soul out. R.I.P to the greatest writer of all time. ❤ 🙏🏼 I had some of his bars tattooed on me back in 2021! Rest easy bro. 🙏💙 P.S thanks for doing this guys.
Thanks to yall, Honor Killed The Samurai was my introduction to him and it was probably a turning point for me to start listening to More underground stuff than mainstream. RIP
Still cannot believe this is real. This man was an absolute gift to this world and I'm forever grateful for all of his offerings and sharing his art with us
DEHH's review of Honor Killed the Samurai was my intro to KA. That album played such a big role in my development during college years. I wouldn't be the person I am today without KA's music nor DEHH. R.I.P and I sincerely appreciate Feefo, Rod, Beezy430, Ken, Myke and the rest of the DEHH team for their contributions.
I was quite literally introduced to Ka because of this channel, when y'all reviewed Honor Killed The Samurai. It's been such a pleasure to be able to listen to more of his music over the years, and his legacy will live on forever. Imma feel the sadness of his passing for a long time, but I'll always have the lessons, memories and wisdom he shared through his music. RIP KA🙏🏾
I have yet to fully grieve this loss. I got the news at work, when my friend sent me the post on IG. I was at a loss and the first thing I did was play "I Wish" and almost cried at the job. I first heard of Ka through y'all back when "Honor Killed the Samurai" dropped but I was 17 at the time so it didn't fully sit with me. September 2020 was when I actually got into him and I was playing Ghost of Tsushima, perfect timing since Honor is the core theme of that game and I remembered the album. From then I sat, listened and my world changed. The second I heard "Mourn at Night" I was enamored, never heard anything like it and I really had to pay attention to every little detail in his writing. I was spoiled since he also dropped "Decendants of Cain" so I had more to listen to on top of his past works. As a lover of music I could feel Ka's passion in the way he wrote and produced, it didn't take long before he took the #1 spot on my list of favorite artists of ALL TIME. I went back and watched his interviews from Red Bull to interviews on the street. Seeing he was a firefighter on top of all that and was a full time fireman, this man was working and writing masterpieces. I was tuned in to every release, I haven't felt connected to another artist this deeply before and I'm starting to tear up as I write this comment. I could say so much about this man but at the end of the day all I can do is thank y'all for introducing me to my hero. I wish I had a chance to shake his hand before he passed on
Ka is from the same neighborhood my pops is from. Me and my father have a had a complicated relationship to say the least. When I was introduced to Ka through you guys it gave me a weird insight into my father’s world pov. My dad is 54 and seeing Ka’s death really hit me much like Ken. Gone too soon felt like he had so much more to give us. It’s a shame how much of the hip hop landscape doesn’t know we lost a TRUE ARTIST. We are loosing men of that generation too quickly. To all of my OGs take care of yourself and spread your knowledge to us youngins while ur still here. R.I.P KA 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
People don’t give enough love to The Hermit and the Recluse. That’s one of my favorites of his. The way he keeps the Greek mythology theme throughout the album is wild. He had to have researched a ton before he went into every album. What a loss.
That's one of my personal favorite albums of all time. I've been obsessed with it ever since I first listened to it. It's such a cool blend of mythology, amazing writing and production.
You all put me onto Ka back when Honor Killed the Samurai came out. This week, I had my students breaking down Ka lyrics & learning from them. All the love to Ka. Thank you DEHH.
RIP to one of the best writers of all time. Not just in hip hop and not just in music. One of the best writers period. "Forgive Me" and "We Living/Martyr" almost brings me to tears every time I hear them.
Honor Killed The Samurai was my introduction and I was a fan ever since. His Pen was truly one of one. "What you minin' for? If unaware share with blind and poor You tellin' stories that's celebratory in times of war With bars of greed, I plead, how many cars you need? When fathers bleed to fill ribs of kids that hardly read Fuck your little rhymes, and the new finds you purchased If you ain't buyin' no soup for them soup lines and churches"
Much appreciated my guys! I was honestly devastated behind this. It’s a huge loss for hip hop. 🙏🏽🕊️ I’ve been with y’all for 10+ years and y’all put me on to Ka with the Descendants of Cain review. To this day it’s one of my favorite albums of all time. Your work turned me into a fan, made me go back to catch up on his catalogue and buy some of his later works. Just wanted to share my appreciation for your hard work. Blessings to y’all! Rest in peace Brownsville Ka 💛
I'm not exaggerating by saying Ka was one of the few male role models I had in my life. He is deeply missed. Glad I had him to show me how to be a better man.
KA was one of the greatest lyricists and songwriters of any genre! Also his minamalistic, drumless production style helped lay the foundation for countless underground artists.#ripKA
i thank both you guys and Fantano for putting Ka in my radar. i was never listening to his music on a daily basis but ive always appreciated and was WOWed by his writing. there will never be another like Ka. once in a lifetime.
I’ve been listening to Ka’s albums this week after hearing he passed away. I haven’t heard of him before and I’m glad I became a listener .. this is a truly real and dedicated artist with unique contributions.
Rest In Power King Ka It felt like an eternity ago that I was introduced to Ka back in 2016 thanks to the reviews for Honor Killed the Samurai by both Fantano & you absolute madmen at DEHH. I still remember being hyped for the release of both Orpheus vs. the Sirens & Descendants of Cain back in the day. Nostalgia (for simpler times).
Thank you DEHH for introducing me to Ka. My first listen was Descendants of Cain. Orpheus v The Sirens is definitely my favorite. I watch all the way from Zimbabwe. Peace.
I was in the bathroom doing the business when I saw this news on insta. Stayed in there literally for about 20 minutes in my feelings and just listened to a couple of my favorite tracks. I’m about to go get his new album from his website soon, you guys introduced me to him through Honor Killed the Samurai. Didn’t know he was a first responder during 9/11, he’s a crazy inspiration man. RIP.
Thank y’all for doing this. My favourite song from KA is possibly “Conflicted”, the hook to it links to what Beezy said about his writing - simple but so profound: “Mama told me ‘Be a good boy, Need you alive, please survive, you my hood joy.’ Pops told me ‘Stay strapped, son’, You need the shotty, be a body or catch one. Always been conflicted, always been conflicted…”
Love this type of content! RIP KA. I first got hip to him on Honor Killed the Samurai, and I was a fan. The album that made me put him as my fav underground lyricist was "Orpheus vs The Sirens" with Animoss the producer. From there it was history. He'll live forever through his music and I feel he'd be proud of what he left behind.
Thankyou for doing this video, you are and always will be a huge credit to hip-hop and spreading the word. Honestly i feel that more people should know about his body of work, and for others to be open to this inimitable style of poetry and storytelling and wordplay in hip-hop.
Got introduced to Ka with Grief Pedigree, and been a huge fan since I heard "I own the night, the heat's my receipt". First time I heard him must've been on Pro Tools when that dropped, but had forgotten it by the time Grief Pedigree dropped. A master in writing simple, but profound lines, while still being able to be complex and having layers to his lyrics. Never wasted a word. RIP to a true lyricist, unique artist and master of his craft. This one hit hard.
Thank you for not only this tribute, but also y'all's review of "Honor Killed the Samurai" - that was my introduction to Ka and completely opened my eyes to someone that would quickly become one of my favorite musicians of all time. Prayers & positive energy for his family & friends right now. "I'm in my winter, you can tell by the snow on my beard."
I got into him when you guys reviewed him probably over 10 years ago. I was 14 then and 25 now. RIP to him and thanks to you guys for sharing his work with people every time he would drop
Thankyou DEHH for introducing me to Ka as a Canadian in highschool at the time you started putting out his reviews i dont think i would have ever found him if i didnt start watching your videos back in the day. R.I.P Ka
Its poetic that his last album is The Thief Next to Jesus. He gave us so many amazing albums to enjoy/reflect on. A true artist through and through. REST IN PEACE KA
Earl sweatshirt actually put me on to KA during his rebull radio shows. one day he played 3 KA songs back to back (Collage, Mourn at Night, Everyday..) ever since i been a fan rip to a legend still in disbelief
Searching for answers and came across this interview. Still heartbroken man, 3 years straight spotify would tell me he was my number 1 streamed artist. Can't shake it. Peace from Canada... he's that powerful
Thank you so much for this. I know you guys are huge Ka fans. I'm a huge fan myself. This is as close as I'm gonna get to talking about this tragedy and legacy with friends.
Thank you for this video. “For them to appreciate my verse, I’m the type that gotta die first” KA was pure love and pain. Edgar Allan Poe and Shakespeare would be in awe. The Thief Next to Jesus is a book from the Bible, the last testament
RIP Ka. Been listening since Nights Gambit too. Bought some vinyl off his site around 2015. Shipping to Ireland so was expecting it to take some time. Was blown away when I got an email from Ka himself telling me he was going to the post office the next day. Writing, production, distribution, he did it all himself. Such a great artist, what a loss.
I’ve been listening to this man’s music non-stop and can’t help but cry, KA’s music has gotten me through a lot especially this year. The fact I have to accept the fact that I’ll never hear another album/song form him really breaks my heart, I’m tearing up as I write this but it is what is, Rest in Peace to the great Brownsville KA 🙏🏼
These guys definitely captured my feelings in the matter. I could not and still cannot believe the greatest lyricist to ever do this is just gone, never to do another surprise drop when I'm at work, or in the restroom, or wherever I was when he dropped each time. Ka is the Moses of rap, maybe even the hood Buddha! He lead a whole new wave and generation of musicians. I hope the youth learn as many of us have. Rest well Tathagata. 🫡🙏🏿🕊️
Metal Clergy man. I kinda wish KA & Roc had already started recording the album just so we could hear what else they recorded together. I'm still messed up over the news. I almost made his last pop-up in NYC SMDH. This is a huge, HUGE loss for the culture. As a total DIY artist who did it his own way, he is a BIG inspiration for me, providing a blueprint on how to do your art. Very hurtful man. In the end I could only praise The Creator and be grateful for the art he gave the world. Rest In Power KA 🙏🏿 Some of my favorite tracks: (there's many more...) Orpheus No Downtime Unto the Dust I Need All Dat Illicit Fields Day 81 Day 13 Peace Akhi Sins of the Father Such Devotion 30 Keys
Thank you. Same as other viewers, I got introduced to his work through this channel. Descendants of Kain was the one which makes me a KA fan. Thank you for sharing this conversation.
Man, thank y'all for putting me on to Ka 🙏🏼 Been getting more and more into him the last couple years so this comes as a total shock. His absence in the underground scene is gonna hurt a lot. Thankfully, we have the music... there's something so haunting & prophetic about that last album, in particular. 😢
This loss feels like a mistake I'm ngl But I found a "silver lining" in it that I figured I'd share (if you can even call it that) Idk how true this is so I say it with a grain of salt but I heard that he passed away in his sleep. He rapped several times about how nobody he knew in the hood died from natural causes.. ("streets live, we die, we don't pass away" etc) So considering everything he went through, for him to survive those circumstances, live to be 52, make so much of his life and write his story in a manner that touched so many of us in such a profound way -- and then pass from natural causes.. It's horrible for the community and most importantly his family and friends, but for the story of his life per se, it's almost poetic.. RIP Ka, for real. This one stings
There are very few artists that have lines that stick with me through the years. Billy Woods line on spiderhole '4 million USD hovering over some mud huts, it's nuts' or E L U C I D's repeated line on Black Garlic 'Legaleese is designed to overwhelm you'. Lines that are simple, but cut right through the bullshit and have you looking at the world through the eyes of the artist. So many KA lines have stuck with me over the years. 'To get what we need, we did what we must', 'My past bent me, see it half empty, still trying to get clean from last century'. 'Used to feel bad but then in a short time was like "fuck your family someone got rich off mine"'. And now the last one will be 'I hope it's borrowed time when my time comes'. RIP to Brownsville KA.
Salute to you DEHH for covering him. Thank you for putting me to KA. Descendants of Cain and Honored Killed the Samurai I heard from you guys and it went from there. KA forever is a legend. RIP to a king 🕊️👑
Ka's music has meant so much to me over these last 8 years. I like many others in here was introduced to him by yall. I thank you. I've had the new album on repeat. It's been haunting to listen to. It's beautiful. Another track i wanted to shout out is good hands by navy blue, has a great ka feature. Needs love. Fuck it, his whole shit needs love. Every album. Every beat. Every bar. RIP KA. Legend.
My first introduction to KA was watching your review of Honor Kill The Samurai. I really enjoyed that album it was very different, I haven't listened as much of his music at the time until I started catching up and had a understanding on how he puts his music together. He is definitely one of the best. R.i.P. Brownsville KA🙏
If it wasn’t for yall reviewing Honor Killed… KA probably wouldn’t have hit my radar til years later. And I’m an indie head through and through. Thank you DEHH for putting on some of these indie legends that otherwise wouldn’t be discussed in this format and finally RIP to one of the best writers of this century. Rest easy
Ka was one of those artists that I admired and appreciated but would only listen to critically, not so much for casual enjoyment. That being said, the one project that actually clicked with me the most was Hermit & The Recluse - amazing project. Even though I was kind of a fairweather fan, it is fucking AMAZING that he released ELEVEN albums as a side project to his career as a firefighter. WHO HAS THAT KIND OF TIME???!?!? R.I.P. to a real legend.
Hermit and the Recluse was probably my introduction. Then I went back and listened to his whole catalog. Some of my favorite stuff was Iron Works, Night’s Gambit, Descendants of Cain, Martyr’s Reward, and Woeful Studies/Languish Arts. A really unexpected passing. He was an amazing lyricist. Every time I hear that song “I Love”, it gets me.🐜
R.I.P. Brownsville KA Thanks to Dead End Hip Hop for putting me on and covering his work. Favorite album: A Martyrs Reward Favorite song: I need all that Favorite music video: Off the record
In 2013, i found this channel. Yall reviewed Marci Beaucoup and I copped the album. Still jam that album. Track 2 Squeeze is what put Ka on my mandatory listen. Honor got me thru my Navy years. RIP Brownsville KA
I was introduced to Ka's work through this platform. I stay a short train ride from Brownsville, and have always associated his music with his neighborhood. Im always reluctant to go to or pass by Brownsville tbh, its probably the most eary, keep your head on a swivel type of hood in BK. The black and white videos make all the sense. Its raw, gritty, and almost like an ode to the past ( gentrification hasnt hit Brownsville as much as say, Bedstuy. It feels like how Brooklyn mightve still felt in the 90s). Whenever i would play a Ka album or watch a reaction id have to stop because it felt too real. Im ashamed i never gave the music more time. I started following him on twitter as the latest album dropped. Was very endearing to see all the smiles at the meet and greet. RIP Ka. Brownsville lost its brightest light.
Like everyone else here, Ka's music changed my life and perception of rap music in a way that no one else's music has. It truly was the rap music for when I felt the most pain, sitting alone in the dark, just trying to get through some shit. His approach to writing will be an important chapter in the Hip Hop History Books. He was not just clever, he was honest on a level that many people are unable to achieve with their writing. That's why we held onto every word. I don't really want to accept his passing, and this is the first time an artist I hold sincerely close to my creative heart has died. You guys put me on only in 2020 with descendants of cain, which is my favorite album of his. Only in the past 4 years I've listened to his catalog and his music has done a lot for me. I think one of the best ways to honor someone is to allow one of their best traits to live on in you, so as a writer myself I will try to be as pure and sincere of an artist as he was.
Appreciate this! My man’s from Canarsie BK put me on Roc Marciano and KA around the same time. This was like 2014 or so. Heard Roc then KA and was hooked.
"For me, it ain't just where I'm at it's where I'm from Through old, grew upholstered since I was young Every fellow plan from ghetto stand on how it's wrung Put Mom first, because Earth can't live with a dying son" - KA: One of the greatest writers of the 21st century
I was first introduced to Ka via reddit lol. I saw that black and white album cover for Honor Killed the Samurai and it just immediately caught my attention. It started up and I hear the Japanese movie sample and he just starts rapping. Never heard a dude rap with quite that monotone style like he did and also over such sparse beats. Part of me wanted him to go harder on his delivery, but then I just got on board with his style and now I see it as his strength. HKtS is still my favorite Ka album, but Descendants of Cain is my second favorite. As I've gotten older his lyrics have continued to deepen and resonate more with me. He speaks about his struggles growing up in Brownsville, but also speaks on so much life shit about getting older and maturing in general. Only recently did I notice how little he actually cusses in his albums. I think Ka was truly one of the best lyricists out there. Not just of underground hip hop, not just of this era, but of all time. RIP Ka.
Remember discovering Ka's The Night's Gambit in the comment section of yall's 2013 best of. Have paid attention ever since. He's truly one of the most poetic MCs I've heard; there's a simplicity, and yet so much creativity to the inages he paints in his rhymes. Big loss for hip hop, we can only be grateful for the art he's left us with. RIP Ka.
Oedipus Just We Living/Martyr Cold Facts I Love Sirens Day 912 Borrowed Time to name a few… rip to one of the best to ever do it. Kaseem Ryan you meant a lot to so many of us thank you for everything.

Thankyou for doing this video, you are and always will be a huge credit to hip-hop and spreading the word. Honestly i feel that more people should know about his body of work, and for others to be open to this inimitable style of poetry and storytelling and wordplay in hip-hop.
Blessings and appreciation for the great brother Ka.
I will be forever thankful to dead end hip hop for introducing me to KA. 🙏🏿
Grief Pedigree was my fav album RIP KA
I got into him when you guys reviewed him probably over 10 years ago. I was 14 then and 25 now. RIP to him and thanks to you guys for sharing his work with people every time he would drop
Thankyou DEHH for introducing me to Ka as a Canadian in highschool at the time you started putting out his reviews i dont think i would have ever found him if i didnt start watching your videos back in the day. R.I.P Ka
Thank yall for introducing me to ka music in 2020 with the ranking albums video. My favorite artist of all time
Its poetic that his last album is The Thief Next to Jesus. He gave us so many amazing albums to enjoy/reflect on. A true artist through and through. REST IN PEACE KA
I would buy a book of his poetry. RIP to a legend!!! 😢
Thank yall for this. 🙏🏿 Yall had the best reviews and convos about Ka work and this lives up to that. RIP to one of best ever.
9:55 "the law don't forgive what the lord might" on Just. One of my favorite tracks from him.
R I P KA
I was introduced to Ka from this platform always seen the name floating around but when y'all reviewed Honor Killed The Samurai I went check for it
Thank you so much for this.
This passing is really hurtful, man.
Been saddened since the news.
He's a one of one. He forces you to listen.
💔
I will always be gratefull to you guys for introduce me to him and his work.
RIP to Brownsville KA.
A true Heroe both in music and life
Off The Record is my personal favorite KA track
R.I.P.
Rest In Power KA 🙏🏿
Some of my favorite tracks: (there's many more...)
Orpheus
No Downtime
Unto the Dust
I Need All Dat
Illicit Fields
Day 81
Day 13
Peace Akhi
Sins of the Father
Such Devotion
30 Keys
Thank you guys for introducing me to a legend. R.I.P. KA. gone too soon 😢
This loss feels like a mistake I'm ngl
But I found a "silver lining" in it that I figured I'd share (if you can even call it that)
Idk how true this is so I say it with a grain of salt but I heard that he passed away in his sleep. He rapped several times about how nobody he knew in the hood died from natural causes.. ("streets live, we die, we don't pass away" etc)
So considering everything he went through, for him to survive those circumstances, live to be 52, make so much of his life and write his story in a manner that touched so many of us in such a profound way -- and then pass from natural causes..
Descendants of Cain is just a classic
Tapped in at Honor Killed the Samurai . This channel definitely kept reminding me to check out his latest drops. RIP KA 🙏🏾
Rest easy
Thank you for showcasing his art over years..yah put me on him at descendants of Cain .. rip too goat
Every time I hear that song “I Love”, it gets me.🐜
R.I.P. Brownsville KA
Thanks to Dead End Hip Hop for putting me on and covering his work.
Favorite album: A Martyrs Reward
Favorite song: I need all that
Favorite music video: Off the record
Favorite album Honor Killed the Samurai.
Favorite song 30 keys
Favorite music video peace
Thank you for this. Peace.
Rest in peace Ka thank you for doing this piece and dedication much appreciated!
Did you guys review The Thief Next to Jesus already?
“I dug and I held when them towers fell, how dare you try to hassle me” 23:33
Like everyone else here, Ka's music changed my life and perception of rap music in a way that no one else's music has.
You guys were naming your albums of the year in 2021 and Ka was up there. Thanks for putting me on
"For me, it ain't just where I'm at it's where I'm from
Through old, grew upholstered since I was young
Every fellow plan from ghetto stand on how it's wrung
Put Mom first, because Earth can't live with a dying son" - KA: One of the greatest writers of the 21st century
RIP Ka.
I love this channel and video bro, love from poughkeepsie ny
Remember discovering Ka's The Night's Gambit in the comment section of yall's 2013 best of. Have paid attention ever since. He's truly one of the most poetic MCs I've heard; there's a simplicity, and yet so much creativity to the inages he paints in his rhymes. Big loss for hip hop, we can only be grateful for the art he's left us with. RIP Ka.
Oedipus
Just
We Living/Martyr
Cold Facts
I Love
Sirens
Day 912
Borrowed Time
to name a few… rip to one of the best to ever do it. Kaseem Ryan you meant a lot to so many of us thank you for everything.
Ka is DIFFERENT. Maybe my favourite writer in hip hop.
I was listening to God Undefeated when I heard of Ka's passing. This one hurt man. 😢
