The best place to thrift is the midwest. The prices are so low; it's crazy. There is a lot of vintage stuff too. St. Louis would be a fun place to travel to. I've heard that the thrift stores are good, and they have a lot of good restaurants and stuff.
I agree! I'm in Indiana and we have the BEST thrift stores. I have never paid $10 plus dollars for an item at any thrift store I've been to. Bloomington, Indiana is a good place to go!
omg yes!!! i’m from st. louis and i would defintiely say we have some really good thrift stores with pretty decent pricing! i love thrifting anywhere around the midwest though :)
I agree as well, I live in Detroit and the stores here are always packed with gems for low prices. Example: $15 is on the expensive side for a pair of shoes here at the thrift. :)
I love down one the hillsboro area of OR and the prices drop so low it’s mind blowing. portland is such a hipster city that thrift stores can make bank so they make their prices higher 😅
For real my goodwill I used to go to was Super cheap. Once I found a brandy Melville shift for 3 bucks and a Coach hand bag for only 2 bucks? So cheap right?
I went thrift shopping with my friend yesterday and everything at the thrift shop I went to was 50 cents for the day 😲 (On Wednesday's it's even cheaper, at .25) I went home with five pairs of pants and two cardigans - all for 3.75 :)))
Lets leave this unoriginal overused “no one:” meme format in 2019. Your comment doesn’t lose any value, maybe even gains some if you leave out “no one:”
Back in high school, I used to love hitting up the Salvation Army right by my house. Thrifting wasn't really a thing back then -- in fact, having all new, name brand clothes was what kids felt like they needed to do to look cool in school. I'm sure, for the most part, that's the same now for kids in middle and high school. Maybe now it's more brand focused and less about buying everything new from the most-popular place in the mall. I used to find some pretty cool stuff. I loved finding super random t-shirts and other interesting items. I miss browsing the thrift stores and need to start going back. Your videos remind me of how much fun I used to have looking through all the racks.
When Alexa was saying about finding things you never knew you wanted I had one of those eureka moments! I hadn't considered that before but it's so true! I love love love the coloured jeans ❤
I live in Boston and the thrifting here is amazing! we have goodwills, but my favorite place is a store called the garment district- it’s a whole city block and it’s a lot like the $1 sale in the parking lot where they have one level that’s just piles of clothes you dig through on the floor and then the upper level is all more traditional thrift store! you should definitely check it out if you’re ever in town!!
Forever Kenzie I’ve been there a few times never in July but every time I’ve been I’ve found cool stuff so I would say yes and it’s called garment district in Cambridge mass, 200 broadway st I think! have a great trip!
Minneapolis has great thrifting, especially in the more well to do suburbs! There are even some stores that get bulk deliveries of recently out of season Target apparel directly from Target Corporate. We call them “Secret Targets.”
I live in Portland, OR and actually sell vintage clothing for a living! It's always so interesting to see people on youtube thrift in Portland because I always just want to yell "no no no the thrift stores are TERRIBLE here, dont go to that one" haha. Insider tip if you ever come back or if someone reads this who is visiting :P If you stay in PDX you're going to want to go to one of the 4-5 goodwill outlets that are in PDX or within 20-40 minutes of the city because thats where the majority of quality vintage items are found. There are smaller thrift stores outside of portland basically right by where the savers you went to are, but you really have to be there right at opening and stand in line. There are just so many resellers here since its a big vintage / goodwill outlet hub. You can also find some really good deals at Hollywood Vintage, which is essentially like House Of Vintage on Hawthorne, but not as expensive because House Of Vintage is such a well established vintage shop for tourists they mark of their items like CRAZY and folks will buy it without question haha. Great video, sorry for the novel im just a vintage / thrifting nerd. @luckymatchvintage
I went to Colorado Springs and Santa Fe, NM in October and my Mom and I went thrifting. We loved Goodwill in SF!!! And CO has a chain of thrift stores called ARC. They are awesome! They have thousands of items that come in daily. We spent so much on awesome finds! I highly recommend those areas. They're 4 hours apart but the culture in both is unbeatable.
this was so cute! portland is certainly the thrifting mecca, but EVERYONE here thrifts and wears vintage so the stores can hike up the prices 😅 i hope you enjoyed it here though! there's lots of vegan restaurants and you came at a great time of the year too ♡
That Value Village is 10 minutes from my house! It's pretty expensive unless you buy the tag color of the day for 50% off. Thrifting is super popular here and has been for years so a lot of places jack up their prices.
I’m always soooo shocked at how much things are priced for over there on the west coast! You should come to Dallas girl... there are sooo many thrift stores and the prices are so much cheaper. There’s a store I just went to yesterday called “Dirt Cheap”... it’s a lot of mostly Target inventory that either didn’t sell or was returned... literally got a dress for me and a few sweaters for my husband for ... get this... $1 each! It’s amazing. You’d love it!
I live in Las Vegas and Saturday’s at Goodwill are $1 color of the week tag, it’s usually really busy but there’s really really good finds. Also Savers has 50% everything on Monday’s IF you ever want to come thrifting here 🙃
If you ever come to the UK thrifting you should book tickets (usually free) to the preloved vintage kilo. There do them in every city so you might have to plan ahead to make sure there's one in the area you'd be staying at. It's about £15 per kilo I believe and you get given bags to take in to fill up. I've got denim jackets, lots 80s & 90s clothing like funky shirts and the amount of levis and wrangler stock they have is unbelievable. Lots of fashion from multiple decades and always find good stuff not too picked over and obviously reasonably priced 😊
Ahh Alexa this video is such great quality! This made me miss Portland so much, it's such a dreamy place this time of year 🍂☕️ I actually just posted a similar video with the REVERSE concept, most expensive to the absolute cheapest.
if you go to any doc store you can purchase inserts for the shoes!! my friend and I did that because hers were too big and because they don't sell half sizes they'll suggest buying one. it might not make it fit like a size 9 but it'll probably be pretty close if you get a bigger insert :)
The one Goodwill near me (Alabama) breaks things down by size rather than color. It has very few men’s clothes, including a limit shirt selection, and is mostly women’s clothes. I feel so envious watching your videos of thrifting in LA bc it’s so different.
Alexa Sunshine83 I lived in LA (Burbank) for two years and 12 in NorCal about 15 years ago, and the consumption is feels equal to what’s happening out here. I don’t know why thrifting is down here, but our consignments are great! I’m going to Cleveland for Thanksgiving and am pumped to check out the thrift stores there!
Next time youre in or near portland you should go to Vancouver across the bridge, its 15 minuets and theres 3 goodwills all within the same area, great prices and amazing selection, they also have smaller thrift stores around and a salvation army, bunches of great places to visit
Also, I see a lot of comments saying Portland thrifting is expensive...it’s no more expensive than any other major city. I currently live in dc and prices here are about the same
Your videos are such an inspiration! Just came from a Finnish type thrifth shop and found the cutest cardigan for 4€ it looks so luxurious and I usually hate cardigans but this one is made for me 😍
You should go thrifting in NY. I recently did it for the first time and my mind was blown away. I just went to a goodwill and a L train vintage store and I was amazed. The stores were so organized, the prices were insane and they had the best stuff. I got a faux leather brown jacket just like I was needing for $20 at goodwill and L train had all their fake and real fur plus other jackets not over $20. I’ve never experienced something like that. I was so happy haha. You’d love it.
Woah! You look great on your outfit for the haul part. Plaid headbands and a lacey sleeve top! Woohooo! Thanks for your lovely vid! Lots of love from Philippines.
Come to Nashville girl! There’s a buffalo exchange that always has cool stuff along with there’s a ton of goodwills all over! About an hour away there’s another thrift store that is my go to and I always find stuff there!
when i went to Portland a couple months ago i did not like any of the stereotypical thrift stores around. my hotel was dead smack in the middle of downtown (with no car) so thrift stores had to be walking distances most of the time. BUT platos closet was SOO GOOD! i found my first pair of denim overalls which were calvin klein and a black harley tank for a grand total of $20!!!
Yup, more and more people are into Thrifting. I never started until I was in my 30s and then not very often. I was more interested in yard sales. Anyway I thrift with my sons. So I started a You Tube channel to record our adventures. We have both had second hand boutiques in the past. I miss that.

If you ever go back, I would recommend thrifting in Beaverton. It’s The town over they have a couple of goodwills and they carry better stuff and the prices are better. Also this video is making me miss Portland. I lived there for four years and just moved to Nashville in August.
I'm from Forest Grove, OR (spent lots of time in Beaverton) and have lived in West Tennessee for several years. I miss autumn in the Northwest and the Oregonian personalities so much!
so Buffalo Exchange does stock a small amount of new merchandise that they buy from vendors, which is why they had multiple of that striped sweater with original tags attached.
If you are ever in the DFW area in TX you need to go to the ACO treasure chest in Allen! They are only open certain times but it is amazing - they have a great 25 cent sale every other Saturday. I recommended 100%!
Unrelated, but you could explain again how you put the Polaroid frame on your pics after the fact? I’ve been looking for the video that you mentioned it in and I can’t find it!!
If your ever in NJ/NY area I know all the thrift spots! I’m also a huge thrifter so I love seeing your videos and how others have the same interest since thrifting is deff not something every one appreciates the way we do! :)
Seems common for the bigger, urban cities (LA, Portland, NYC, etc) to have more expensive second-hand stores. Those stores also have much trendier, name-brand clothing than smaller cities, so it makes sense. It's just not as nice as snagging a gem for dirt - cheap.
In deep south Texas we have a thrift store called "Texas Thrift Store" on Monday's they have 99 cent items and half off they go by the color of the tags. 🙂
I live in Eugene, OR and omg its so much more affordable to thrift here! Plus it is a college town so there’s always sooo much good stuff at the goodwills I go to. Portland is so dang expensive for anything.
The Fall is a great season..The winters are harsh. I love the jeans & the striped sweater. The old school Singer sewing machines are the best. Your boyfriend reminds me of the lead singer from the band Weezer due to the glasses.
Alexa one day at anytime you should come to Wisconsin near the small towns. Because the prices at the Thrift Stores are very cheap and you can find a lot of nice pieces. Love you have a great sunny day.
I just realized... imagine a big part of your job being THRIFTING. Living the life Alexa
I live in Sweden and next to my house i one time thrifted a pair of doc martens 1960s high top for 4$!!!!
näää lyllos dig
Vart bor du?? 🤩
😍thats an amazing find
Det finns ju typ inga sånna butiker i Sverige😞
Jag bor i Stockholm, där skulle de kostat typ 400kr (begagnade), vilken butik hittade du dem i?

When you said $50 for a jacket at Goodwill my jaw literally dropped! That jacket would be no more than $7 here on the east coast.
I KNOW RIGHT! I don’t even think I’ve seen that at my own goodwill haha

I feel you, I have to drive +2 hours most of the time ! ❤️😬😬

OMG DANGGG
Loveeee Texas thrift store!! The one in Houston is a good mineeeee
I absolutely love Doc Martens MaryJanes what fabulous find!
FYI... The Goodwill's here in Maryland are arranged by size not by color.
U looked so extra pretty in that white top and gingham headband....
Awwwww thank you so so much !!!!
Oh and I've been loving the music you're adding to the vids...so N I C E!!!
that colorful jeans is sooooooooooooooo cool!
Those jeans are so cool!!! And I LOVE Fall in the PNW!! 🍁🙌
Zena as in Xena Warrior Princess (ZEE-nah). I remember those from back in the day, Zena jeans were the BOMB! ;-)
SEATTLE!! The goodwill is massive and so amazing! It’s like 5 hours from me so whenever I visit my family over there I try to hit it up.
😭😭😭😭 omg I need to !!!
Alexa Sunshine83 plus I might be bias but the vegan scene in Seattle is just as good if not better than Portland 😊
Alexa one day at anytime you should come to Wisconsin near the small towns. Because the prices at the Thrift Stores are very cheap and you can find a lot of nice pieces. Love you have a great sunny day.
