    hemothorax does not cause tracheal deviation and for the matter deviation is rare even in severe tension pneumothorax. Clinically, you should use absent lung sounds and sustained tachycardia to diagnose a tension pneumothorax.

    • @ianlombardo9758
      @ianlombardo9758 7 лет назад +2

      as EMTs we cannot do anything to treat the tension pneumothorax as needle decompression is not in our scope of practice

    • @royjosephtrinidad2609
      @royjosephtrinidad2609 5 лет назад +1

      Hemothorax may cause the trachea to deviate especially if there is significant bleeding.

    • @jordanthayer7599
      @jordanthayer7599 8 лет назад

      +Hunter Platt Almost all paid American firefighters are EMT's or Paramedics. Most EMT-B license courses are built into the fire protection degree curriculum in schools around the country.

    • @thestimpy2661
      @thestimpy2661 8 лет назад +1

      At least 90% of what fire fighters respond to having nothing to do with anything on fire, and everything to do with trauma or medical problems. Unless your a wild land firefighter but even then there's serious use in you knowing how to deal with medical and trauma issues in case ur buddies get hurt.

    surely the trachea would deviate towards the bad lung, as it has collapsed and the pressure from the inflated lung would push it towards the bad side, not the other way round like said in this vid.?

    • @kiradobson505
      @kiradobson505 7 лет назад +5

      The air from the pneumothorax would begin to build inside the chest, pushing the trachea towards the unharmed side and away from the tension over time.
