I remember watching this with my grandpa as a kid, I was totally absorbed in the world it had created. Now he has dementia and I just wish he could just have a swim in that pool.
I live in St Pete where it was filmed…sometimes I dream that we really do have the fountain of youth and will be regenerated by our outdoor lifestyles and beautiful scenery and weather. (but please, dont move here, we can already barely afford it 😂😂)
And hopes and wishes for you, my friends. Dementia is hard.

This needs a digital release, it’s a classic.
You don't need a digital release, just get the DVD, saves you from the requirements of internet connection that often doesn't work, compressed video quality and the expirations of contracts that take movies off the services. Nobody needs digital releases of anything. You want the film in your hands, not Hollywood scum that determine what movies you watch.

I really want to purchase this movie and its sequel for a fan, on blu-ray, playable in Region 1 (the United States), but this doesn't seem to exist. :(
I think there's a German blu-ray you can play in Region 1, but it's pretty expensive.
It's amazing how movies are starting to become reality. They are most likely going figure out how to keep you young soon and discover advanced alien life.

@@morten1 while I appreciate the sentiment for the older visual effects, to call CGI "lazy" is just not fair. I worked for ten years at a major movie studio that specializes in animation and CGI visual effects, and let me tell you that each shot, which may only last a few seconds on screen, takes a large team of very talented artists each with a specific job to do, from designing the layout of the shot, to modeling the objects, rigging, texturing, lighting, animating, matchmoving, rotoscoping, and compositing. Many of them put in twelve hour days, sometimes six or seven days a week when getting close to delivery dates. CGI is in some ways different from the older techniques, but lazy? Not on your life!

Why doesn't this have a wide-release on Blu-Ray or 4K? It's a great film.
There's some weird rights issue impacting U.S. distribution. Neither the producers nor 20th Century Fox will discuss what the holdup is, but it apparently only affects the U.S. There are import blu-rays in the U.K. and Germany - I think the German one is playable on U.S. equipment, but I have no idea if it has the original English soundtrack. You also can't stream it on any rental service. About the only way to watch Cocoon legally in the U.S. is when it occasionally plays on FXM.
I live in Brazil and never saw this movie available anywhere...shame!

I'm no fan of this new fad to make sequels of films four decades old, but if they wanted to make a 3rd Cocoon or Short Circuit, it might be a dream come true.
