I think the fact bendy historically can't exist is very inline with it's genre, featuring things such as artificial "animals", Murder Robots, Murder Robots that aren't meant to be murder robots, a guy surviving 30 years in a smelly bunny costume despite massive blood loss, starvation, and thirst. It also has massive buildings that likely wouldn't be approved due to size, a game show that features people being brutally murdered being greenlit, drawings coming to life, and ghosts and stuff.
Quite frankly the fact Bendy can't historically exist is...very fitting for the story of the game, with the whole premise of the cycle being outside The March of Time lol
This is why I really enjoyed Tattletail, everything felt period accurate, ESPECIALLY the audible motors whirring and warbled distortion when they spoke.
It’s crazy to think that in a few years we will have projects like this that nostalgia bait the early 2000’s, imagine horror/ parody projects that vaguely resemble pokemon, power rangers, Icarly, Avatar the last airbender, Teen titans, etc.
I remember thinking something like this about indie games. There's a lot of "8 bit" indie games, a partially smaller amount of "16 bit" indie games, and a very big number of 32 bit-ish indie games that use pixel graphics without even trying to evoke some kind of nostalgia most of the time. There have been a few low-poly "64 bit" indie games, but they are very, very few. Maybe we'll have some more before 2030 hits us.
@Burn_AngelME TOO!! Honestly, even though I do enjoy pixel style games, the "low quality" style also sometimes messes with my eyes because I'm nearsighted. 😅🤣 I also like to think how fun it would be if there were similar "32/64 Bit" type of games that didn't really have a "pixel style", but more of a "hand drawn" type of style too!! One thing I like to think of, is a "reimagining" of Gen 1 and 2 of the Pokémon games!! While I understand why that probably wouldn't really work, I honestly like to think it would still look 94% the same as the original Gen 1 and 2, but just have more extra detail like a painted/hand drawn styles to make the world feel even MORE alive too!! That's just my opinion, though. 🙃🙃
It always bugged me soooooo much that the Freddy Fazbear gang are represented in-universe as being mechanical. No they wouldn’t be! They wouldn’t even be nowadays! He would be drawn as a big fluffy teddy bear on all the signs and logos and THATS why the animatronic is so scary and uncanny. He’s a person-sized Teddy Rupskin.
I generally agree with a theory it was marketed towards people who liked robotics and machinery kind of kids since it would absolutely be ‘cutting age technology’ being the focus I think
As someone who's barely heard of the game I'm absolutely dumbfounded that Dandy's World takes place in the 80s/90s. based on the designs I thought they were supposed to be like, modern preschool mascots from the 2020s, they don't give oldschool AT ALL lmao
It would certainly work as a modern mascot horror with the lean into AI nowadays - they could have really done something with that Modern take on a classic horror trope - literally
I'm honestly legit impressed with how period accurate you made bendy look. As someone who grew up with those kinds of cartoons. I have to say you really nailed the 30s-40s look.
Though it is a perfect game for this kind of video considering the amount of posts from fans complaining about historical inaccuracies rival the amount complaining about the balancing, gameplay, lore and everything else that makes this game a game (if we exclude the TikTok pinheads, but not really sure if we can consider them fans.)
This continues to prove my belief that most mascot horror creators don't tend to do any actual research on the eras they pick as settings and base everything off of modern parodies of actual period media, which is why so much of it reads like fourth hand failed social commentary
This isn't just exclusive to mascot horror. A lot of young artists that try to be "vintage" do this. Either they make stuff look way older than it actually is. Like adding a 1880s film grain on a animation and then claiming the video is "90s style" Or like what Harry demonstrated with Bendy. They mix and mash stuff from various decades Like having "1920s" characters with pac-man eyes and a CalArts smile. Neither of which were actually part of that era, the pacman eyes only came a little later in the 1930s while the 20s either had regular dot pupils or small cut lines. And the bean mouth was NEVER used in ANY of those older cartoons. (They only really became a thing in the 2000s and 2010s)
@AnonymousUser-zap That is not what I said. If it being inaccurate bothers you, I understand. But just because someone got a few things wrong does NOT mean they don’t deserve to be artists!
In fairness, I think bendy could have worked as a little demon/imp in the time period, the studio would have just needed to get a little creative. Cartoons from that time period DO often feature devilish looking characters, but they serve a very specific role. They exist exclusively as either villains or figures there to dole out punishments to sinners. In this way, I think bendy could work in period as a sort of "morality play anti-hero", punishing the bad guy of the week for their various sins through impish cartoon antics, with Alice Angel there encourage the sinner to repent.
Yeah, it's weird to me that he ignored the existence of Disney's "The Goddess of Spring," released in 1934 and which depicts Hades as... basically Satan, horns and goatee and all, accompanied by several horned, pitchfork-wielding imps.
you could even use the butcher gang for that. They do something bad, and bendy comes to punish them in his usual "being an annoyance antics". Alice also doesn't have to be his love interest, and they could have some sort of rivalry on who can do their job better. Im not a fan of turning them into animals lol, and considering the type of guy Joey Drew was, im sure he would have found every single loophole to be able to produce and broadcast the cartoon, which would have been incredibly in character.
Maybe... but it might only work for one or two cartoons, not an ongoing series. 🤷♀️ The Great Depression era left most people struggling, and not just financially. The last thing people wanted to be reminded of was the existence of Hell. It was evoked to convey the seriousness of the sinful main character's actions. Depression-era audiences wanted comfort. Life SUCKED, and they wanted an idyllic escape. Not just money, but true love and happy healthy families. It's a big reason Snow White was so successful when it came out. Back then, demons were not seen as fun, intriguing, or subversive. They were reminders of death's permanence - and whatever you died with on your conscience, that determined how the rest of your sentient existence would go. Depression-era movie-goers wouldn't WANT to identify with a demon. Imagine an audience of sentient mice watching a cartoon where the sneaky rodent surviving on stolen food scraps is hunted down by a crafty, witty cat, then toyed with until devoured - except, it's just a dream, and the mouse vows to leave the house and live in the wild. Those mice aren't interested in more cat cartoons; they'd rather not even see a cat as long as they live! I know that sounds silly - but remember, subversion wasn't a big thing in entertainment back then. That's what made the Looney Tunes explode in popularity. It wasn't just funny, it was NEW! Audiences weren't used to the kind of zany nonsense where, say, a mouse could turn to a hissing cat, slap it across the face, and go "NYEEEH SHADDAP!" Audiences wouldn't have been ready for Bendy yet, not in a pre-Looney Tunes world.
Honestly, I can see Bendy (now as a cat) being Alice's pet. Bendy could be mischievous, clueless, or a troublemaker, but not outright devilish, then Alice comes in to show him what he is meant to do. In the end, Bendy knows not to do whatever he did in that set cartoon again and gets rewarded with a treat, good scratch, or kiss on the head.
he always gave cat vibes. i remember how back in the day (like 2017 lmao) people who just knew nothing about the game thought he was a cat. pretty sure my nana did, lol. god i was so obsessed with that damn game. like it consumed my life from age 10 to 12 lmaoooo. still not as long as fnaf did, that was like from age 6 to 11😭
I can see Bendy as a cat who, whenever he'd come up with a mischievous scheme, would get a sly, Grinch-like grin on his face while his ears temporarily curl into more devilish horns.
@Silentware3 i’m thinking like a garfield and odie thing. maybe boris could just like unintentionally make bendy’s situation worse because he’s just like happy to be there and doesn’t realize what he’s doing lol
My exact problem with Dandy's World is that it's supposed to take place around the 80s-90s, yet the "Toons" in the game look way too modern to be from that time period. Thank you for fixing this. You and TestMacaroni always make for a great learning source on how to emulate certain artstyles properly.
I get me so MAD every time I think about that!! honestly I expected dandy’s world to be like the Nick jr of “mascot horror.” And then I saw one of the “lore” pictures around the map said “19##, for some reason I said “oh my good bruh” out loud.. 🥹 yes, exactly like the reaction image,,,
I always have beef with mascot horror where the “original form” of the mascot is already horrific. Like I think it’s okay for FNAF because yes, old animatronics are pretty creepy and gross just bc pf the way they had to be made to be able to move or whatever, but a plushie or toy is NOT going to be as uncanny. The smiling friends could have easily been made to look more cute originally, I think the tongue is a really good feature bc you could imagine that falling off at some point which would leave the scary empty mouth. Decay making something creepier/distorting a seemingly innocent toy is more compelling to me. (And it’s just realistic- there’s so many examples online that show how old stuffed animals can become a bit creepy after years of play).
To be honest all theyd need to be more believable is just invert the eyes and *maybe* have their teeth visible more often. I feel like the blank eyes is what does it
I think I am literally unable to process the fact he actually went through the effort of animating that and getting it run through VCR. Like it feels like there's supposed to be some joke I'm not in on because that feels so preposterous, but, nah. Guy just goes all the way. EVERY TIME. Every video. There is literally not a guy that continuously outright impresses me with his videos this often. I love a lot of RUclipsrs, this is just on an insanely consistent bases, amazingly impressive.
my first time here but i picked up on his obsession with the old days so i wouldnt put it past him to take any opportunity to do his passions, animating old cartoons
I’m only just finding out that Dandy is from a horror game, I was seeing fanart occasionally and just assumed people were just making nostalgia fanart for the Baby’s First TV flower
Ngl same I thought it was from a children’s book or smth, not a horror game Also the mention of the Baby First flower just reminded me that channel existed
tbh i think dandys world would make much more sense if it was set in the 2010s, my biggest gripe with the game (besides the repetitive gameplay) is how the designs dont fit the time period they're supposed to be in at all
yeah like i love dandys world but you cant convince me the animators were ahead of their time, it just makes sense to it to take place in the early or mid 2010s
It would make the most sense if the og series was from the 90s, and the characters with the sorta calarts bean mouth style we play as are from a 2010s reboot
OH MY GOSH THE TOONS LOOK PERFECT FOR THEIR ERA NOW!!! I really like Dandy's World but I've always kinda thought the characters looked too modern! Despite not really living around the time the Dandys World show was supposed to be airing, its pretty clear that their designs dont match that older 90s/2000s show style very well and you did a really great job making them fit it better :D
5:19 "so you can satisfy your bear-sized appetite without leaving the comfort of your own cave" I LOVE THIS SO MUCH OMGGG i read it like in the ad or smth
I could see Bendy being a impish little devil around the same time of early Talkatoon-era Fletcher Studios, and then his studio conveniently "forgetting" what his species was supposed to be as the Hays Code was closing in. Instead of redesigning him into a cat, etc. Betty Boop *was* originally also a dog, but the dog-like elements got deemphasised until you couldn't tell. I could see something like that happening to Bendy. Tom and Jerry did get away with cartoon/joking depictions of angels, devils and other religious themes, more-so in the 60's onward, but there were some in the 40's/50's as well. While having your main character be a devil might be a bit much, I think Alice could maybe stick to being an angel. Probably loose the horns tho.
Aaand I like to think Bendy and would've been a big more "original looking" like on the first example, Alice having horns AND wings, while Boris was more like Goofy but also 'inspire' on those cows like Oswald's(?) Then they would chance do to legal/educational reasons(¿) Finally on the 80s Bemdy and Alice would have regained some of the original features to a 'modern' concept while Boris couls have his original personality but being less of a "Goofy's copy"
I was under the impression when it first came out that it was supposed to make you uncomfortable with Bendy being a demon and all the on-the-nose demonic references in the posters and cartoon clips. Like we're witnessing an alternate universe where that shouldn't be possible.
It's funny, cause it's reminiscent of Bosco, the first Looney Tunes character who was shelved for similar questionable design. You can look up that one for yourself lol. The youtuber Kaizer Beamz made an absolutely fantastic history of the Looney Tunes where they cover it.
Fun fact about a lot of the posters/cutouts in FNAF Security Breach and Secret of The Mimic: they're all reused concept art from the game's development. It's a really clever way to avoid letting that artistic work go to waste! ... Anyway, that probably explains why a lot of them are mismatched styles and missing details - different artists, different experiments that weren't necessarily intended to be final-product decor.
My conclusions: - Dandy's World takes place in the 80s??? I had always noted how similar the style looked to specifically the Algebraliens of Battle For Dream Island, so i just took it to take place in modern times. - I never knew I needed a passionate rant about FNAF's poster design until now - Perhaps the most unrealistic thing about Bendy is that Joey Drew Studios didn't go under *sooner* - Most mascot horror creators are younger than the eras they base their content on
My theory is Dandy’s World supposedly takes place in the late 2000s or 2010s, but at the last minute they add suppose lore that these mascots are “made in the 1980s”. Because others did theirs.
@Nobody-sf4cv its the same day that dandy was supposed to do a show too! If you looked at one of the poster you'd see dandy skating(i suppose?) On the poster but sadly i think that show didn't get its shine after the 'Malfunction' incident that lead to the Meuseum closing its doors.
@BADMFA8 That would require an entire new model sheet to be made and Betty Boop had eclipsed him in popularity, so it was simpler to just drop Bimbo all together.
@BADMFA8 Her design wasn't much different, aside from like floppy doggy ears that could easily be mistaken for hoop earrings. People just presumed she was human because she mostly looked it, and drawing her more canine features was probably a pain in the ass (and made her more marketable to boot!).
@BADMFA8they first made her human to make her more appealing, then she became really popular as a human so they couldn't really change her back without losing an iconic character, so they changed her "role" instead
It would be incredible if one day you could make tutorials on how to properly emulate art styles of certain periods, you manage to give them the texture and paper/print feel super well and I personally have no idea where to even begin emulating that!
What’s particularly annoying about the smiling critters plushies, is that when they get chased by hundred of these little torn up plushies in several sections of the game, they lose their big button eyes to reveal creepy glowing humanoid ones. So they never needed the big black chocolate buttons tacked onto their faces in the first place. However, I do have to commend them on lore accuracy. A toy that sprays a deadly airborne substance into your child’s bedroom every night is exactly the kind of thing they would sell in the early 90s. Honestly, I feel like it’s a missed opportunity that they didn’t have a tape where two guys in Catnap and Huggy suits duke it out while all the parents cheer.
Because of your comment, now I imagine some tape featuring a grown man, who's very confused that he didn't turn out as a cancer-ridden child from the stuff those plushies were spraying.
Hate to be that guy, but not really. The minigame assets (at least the ones from the original 6 games) look fairly on par with the graphics you would see on second gen systems (mid 70s to early 80s) like the colecovision or intelivision. Those systems were actually 8 bit, but still significantly less powerful than the third gen systems like the NES. Bits don’t actually have anything to do with graphics quality, just the amount of data that can be processed.
I mean the sprites aren't aligned to a grid at all. Are they meant to evoke pixel art without having the time? Are they meant to evoke pixel art but uncannily and not quite correctly? Did Scott just want to make sprites out of right angles with no rhyme or reason? Why are they like that?
@BadringerGronger thinking of making a full series reboot exactly like that but I have 0 knowledge in blender or game development so it might take a long time.
Most of these horror mascots, particularly Dandy's World and the Smiling Critters, don't even look close to the era they're supposed to come from, so good on you for giving them an accurate restyling. I also found it interesting that you took the Hays code into account when redesigning Bendy. When it comes to Five Nights At Freddy's, I know of someone who draws those characters in a 80s-90s traditional animation style reminiscent of Don Bluth.
13:41 By the way, that was the exact reason why the toys didn't sell well in the in-game universe (I don't remember the exact details, but I'm pretty sure someone from their lineup (if not all of them) wasn't sold due to excessive amounts of nightmares they evoked in children). Everyone else is ± cute, I think. The redesigns are simply awesome. :)
The main group of Smiling Critters sold well, it was the CatNap model that was recalled. The sleeping gas they strangely decided to use instead of popuri like the others gave an acid trip effect which did not mix well with the appearance of CatNap. You can see the nightmare inducing form during his boss fight in Chapter 3.
0:56 - THIS. I've been telling my friends into this stuff for ages now. It's hard to take something like Dandy's World seriously if it claims to be from the 80's but they look like background characters in Steven Universe, lol.
The dandy's artsyle always irked me so got dang much, it infuriated me that it seemed like I was the only one who saw that there was no was this was a 90s or even 2000s show. Thank you for relieving me of my grievances Harry
@GoofyGuyReal2763so where fuzzlies, care bears and cabbage patch kids... And none of them looked like adventure time or Foster's... Basic geometric shapes were only shown in sesame street
As much as I love dandy’s world, this is a huge issue I wish the developers fixed😭😭 Either make the art direction of the game lean more towards the era the show takes place in, or just change the era entirely,, I do hope they eventually fix this in the future
I don't really think that would work dude, because 1930s censors were incredibly literal, no matter what "metaphorical" excuse any studio gave, putting horns or a pointed tail on a mascot would have been seen as an immediate religious provocation that would get the cartoon banned
7:28, It is explained that depending on if a character has a soul or not, varies the appearance on them. If they lack a soul they are like the Ink Demon, no where close to the pie-eyed darling devil we all 'loved'. Boris, The Butcher Gang and Alice Angel do HAVE souls, but Alice looks ugly due to a flaw in the ink machine and requires prefect results like our buddy Boris. Same goes for the Butcher Gang.
They look adorable, and the inspiration from the Care Bears is much more noticeable, even though we weren't shown Catnap. If it already gives you the creeps with white pupils, imagine how incredibly creepy it would look with small eyes, and let's not even talk about how its experimental versions would look with those tiny eyes and enormous mouths. Catnap would be nightmare material, or even more so than it already is.
The stuff about the fnaf posters not having phone numbers or addresses really made me realize how much we get wrong about the past solely because of our modern perspective. Like, nowadays you don't really have to have anything other than a name on an advertisement, because people can just google it to from there. Back then, you had to include a lot more information in order for it to work as an ad in the first place. And the art itself, too. We're so used to digital illustration and graphic design that we don't really think about how they used to have to make these images physically, with real ink and paint. So the techniques that wouldn't have been reasonable to do in those mediums are lost on us, because they're just so common now. Heck, the purpose of the posters in the first place was a great point, too. Why is this here? What does this image being here accomplish, other than filling up space? I dunno, but this is all absolutely fascinating to me! I love period accuracy, it's an endlessly interesting topic. Awesome video!
I’ve always wanted to experience all these mascot horrors in their natural habitats… looks like this will be the closest I’ll get to seeing it brought to life. Still a great job as always Harry!
4:40 tbf i think the freddy illustration is meant to look like the showbiz pizza animatronics. as far as i can find from a quick google search, most showbiz pizza ads were photos of the animatronics themselves, but there are a few illustrations that are kinda similar to the style used
I do like both the accuracy, style AND the historical context surrounding cartoons of the time used in the bendy designs. It's also interesting, as I feel Drew is a Disney-like character who refuses to evolve or change, unlike his inspiration. Expecting things to go his way bc he dreams they can.
I know an artist called "Lucky" that makes really good content and fanart of Dandy's World, most of their content replicates very good the 80-90's style and makes it period accurate,by far they're one of my favorite artists on this fandom
I know a lot of people would say it's nitpicky to criticise artstyles not being period accurate, but it really does stagger me to see how so many of the supposed retro characters look absolutely NOTHING like something from the period they're supposed to come from. I mean I have to asume that these characters were designed by someone with a least some amount of interest in character designs (cause like, why elese would you design characters?). I putting a bean mouth on a character that's supposed to be from the 1980's... no man, that's just ridiculous. That's like if someone writes a story taking place in the 17th century and have the characters go on a steam train.
eh, i guess one could argue that the characters aren't literally supposed to be in that art style in-universe, and it's just how they look when depicted by someone who doesn't have an art style period-accyrate to the 80s. i don't necessarily believe that, but it's a possibility.
I had the biggest beef with the Smiling Critters in Poppy’s Playtime cuz of how unrealistic and creepy they looked despite being late 80s children’s toys I knew Poppy’s Playtime isn’t super period accurate but the Smiling Critters were so bleak, so I’m super happy that you redid them! They look so spot on now, you did such a good job man
14:33 i love the designs but especially in this scene, where they are supposed to be tired and scared, they look pretty happy with majority of them smiling.
@Chadjr2009 Well, I personally made this account based off the bots, but rather spreading negativity, I usually spread info that clear misconceptions or warn others to not reply to bots.
7:09 I never got the impression that he was meant to be a twist villain, it was pretty obvious from the start. What with his look, demeanor, the posters everywhere spouting about how he “killed the ink demon” and how you should trust him and whatnot. Not to mention how he tricked Audrey into turning on the ink machine, transporting both of them into the ink realm. The real twist is what he wants with Audrey and why and maybe his motivations, but I won’t say what they are because spoilers.
Alice The Angel is based off of Betty Boop, and the latter has a way bigger and more visible forehead, so this redesign is doing a lot of covering here.
@InvThePaincatThe designs are nice, but almost makes you wish that vintage outfits actually brought out the more classic style for them rather than just making a "rubberhose vibe" by giving them the cut eyes and gray scaled colours lol.
@hallowedchromee310 yeah, as much as i love the character designs themselves, the vintage skins almost always look so bad. if the colors were more intentional and the designs changed a bit to look more vintage, they'd be much nicer. vintage gourdy is my favorite, cause his proportions & eyes fit that aesthetic perfectly lol
Sure. Every single one of these games should be remade to be accurate to the time period that they're set in. /s Let's threaten and force the developers until they decide to make their games period-accurate. /s
I like how for the Dandy designs you really toward that Care Bears/MLP look but at the same time you very clearly cared for accuracy in roblox models (likely so you wouldn’t get backlash by the rabid dandy fandom kids) translating to a past era so that they still carry their charm without looking too odd
9:56 “The question is” Considering we had animations such as Hells Bells and Swing You Sinners I think a rubberhose demon sitting in the same era amongst a cartoon cat, a cultural rodent, a serious sailor, and a peppy girl isn’t so far fetched at all
i don't think major redesigns would've pissed anyone off, because 90% of the fanart of DW characters add a shit ton of extra design details that didn't exist before
This kind of behavior shows how it isn’t smart to make assumptions. Generalizing the Dandy’s World fandom, or any fandom at all, is quite ignorant. Perhaps if you’d cared to do any sliver of research, you’d see that fans produce Dandy’s World art in wildly varying styles, and are quite receptive to redesigns and personal takes. Thanks.
Something I'd be really interested in you covering is the ARG "Welcome Home" by Clown/Party Coffin, the creator is really into the Muppets and Jim Henson's work in general so the designs seem pretty accurate to my understanding, but I'd be curious on your take.
Genuinely really love how the dandy's world characters weren't changed thst much aside from the obvious style change. I've seen a lot of era accurate redesigns of them completely rework the designs, which i still find neat in other redesigns, but seeing them still look accurate with very few design changes really shows how most of them are already pretty good designs!
09:55 I didn't even know American films and cartoons were censored by something like "Hays Code" back then. I forgot not only were people easily frightened before, but also easily offended by "different" or "not-normal" topics and design choices.
I feel like we’ve almost always been like that. It’s gotten a bit less bad though since there’s things we can do now that wouldn’t have flied as easily back then.
I actually have two nitpicks with the Bendy redesign: - Joey Drew Studios isn't based in Hollywood, but is canonically based in New York- meaning that those articles would have applied differently if at all to them. (Yet again Flischer Studios is also East Coast so I could be wrong on that) - IIRC, Bendy having a separate head from his body was an intentional design choice by Joey Drew Studios as it would allow the head and body to be separately animated.
Rebuttal: -I would argue that the tone of the Bendy games is so confused that Joey Drew could easily be considered a standin for Walt, given the tech and the possible usage of which could keep him alive forever. -Felix the Cat did the removable limbs bit first, and his head was pretty attached to his body.
@daniexists6 Fair points, but bear in mind for the second bit, the separate head thing and it floating above the body is the design choice I was referring to, not it being able to be removed.
12:04 Who's telling him that canonically Boris's overalls are green (Can't blame him tho, its technically a relatively recently revealed fact.) Oh and that canonically Bendy cartoons just didnt go to color, it wasnt until it was cancelled and then bought by Archgate studios years later (post Joey Drew's death) when it finally went to color (forgot the year though so it depends on which year you're setting it, Just wanted to comment a few facts)

THAT AD WAS PEAK 🔥🔥🔥
If you placed a compilation of your sponsors, I would watch that in a heartbeat
@ElpizzagameplayI agree.
Is rambling the raccoon from indigo park historically accurate
@michaelHassler-dl9uxNo.
The fact Bendy can't historically exist makes me laugh
But he was a little devil thing!
@alexstuf AND WAS BROUGHT TO LIFE ON THE SILVERSCREEN
@FishersPROfficial USED TO MAKE EM CHUCKLE NOW HE MAKES EM SCREAM🔥🔥🔥
This video makes me appreciate how Baldi's Basics is incredibly accurate to crappy 90s edutainment games.
Yesssss
they nailed the subtleties and didn't just focus on it overall
One of the things i love about baldi
I don’t know most of the edutainment games I was playing back then had 2D character art just because 3D was just not really a thing in those days.
X2
This is why I really enjoyed Tattletail, everything felt period accurate, ESPECIALLY the audible motors whirring and warbled distortion when they spoke.
I miss Tattletail...
Fun fact: Tattletail's voice actor is a storyboard artist (I think) for Adventure Time!
TRUUE
If mascot horror ever gets a resurgence, I hope they remember to be period accurate, cuz that’s one of my biggest problems with most games.
X2 and the real reason I can't handle Valle Verde or Bendy
Agreed!
It’s crazy to think that in a few years we will have projects like this that nostalgia bait the early 2000’s, imagine horror/ parody projects that vaguely resemble pokemon, power rangers, Icarly, Avatar the last airbender, Teen titans, etc.
Honestly, I would REALLY enjoy a 2000s inspired First Person view game in an iCarly style apartment!! 🙃🙃
thats literally already happening. like, everywhere.
@oliveracious Lacey Games
HARRY YOU REANIMATED A WHOLE SEGMENT CUTSCENE YOU ABSOLUTE BEAST!!!
Holy shit Joey from Re- UH, youtube.
Oh hey Joey, it's always cool to see other people from what shall not be named in other areas than what shall not be named
What? Who’s this guy?
TWO segment cutscenes counting the ad
How funky.
6:32 “how much sweeter could honey bee?” Is not a bad slogan.
They actually cooked that one tehn
Imma have disagree with HG on this one.
“How much sweeter could a honey bee be?”
Almost as if the people making these games have no idea what the fuck they're doing..... Oh wait! They dont!
TRUEEEE!!! though i think it wouldn't be uncommon for them to make in-universe robot puns, like PTT chuck demanding to "turn off the fruitcake dog"
I generally agree with a theory it was marketed towards people who liked robotics and machinery kind of kids since it would absolutely be ‘cutting age technology’ being the focus I think
@thardump859Scott grew up in the 80s. Hes one of the few indie horror devs who actually lived in the period he is emulating
@thardump859Do you really have to be a dick head about it?
This is actually incredible, how does this not have more views? Even reanimated an entire cartoon scene. Wow.
Fr Harry Gold's videos in general are pretty underrated
As someone who's barely heard of the game I'm absolutely dumbfounded that Dandy's World takes place in the 80s/90s. based on the designs I thought they were supposed to be like, modern preschool mascots from the 2020s, they don't give oldschool AT ALL lmao
but the style seems to be a link between the 2010s and 2012s.
It would certainly work as a modern mascot horror with the lean into AI nowadays - they could have really done something with that
Modern take on a classic horror trope - literally
Yeah same- I’ve only heard of the show but only NOW am I finding out it’s supposed to be a 90s show??
They give 2010s
Agreed, it ticked me off so much like idk
I'm honestly legit impressed with how period accurate you made bendy look. As someone who grew up with those kinds of cartoons. I have to say you really nailed the 30s-40s look.
How was WW2 grandpa
how the hell did you grow up with the 30s and 40s cartoons and end up on a youtube video about mascot horror
You what
@vibingwaffles They might have watched them as a kid just not in the 30s-40s
I sincerely respect how tech-literate you are for a 90+ year old.
I was not expecting dandy’s world to be mentioned by harry gold
Me either tbh 😭
Though it is a perfect game for this kind of video considering the amount of posts from fans complaining about historical inaccuracies rival the amount complaining about the balancing, gameplay, lore and everything else that makes this game a game (if we exclude the TikTok pinheads, but not really sure if we can consider them fans.)
I saw dandy in the thumbnail and was like “oh boy what’s he gonna say about Roblox”
FR I'M SO HAPPY!!!
Same here honestly
This continues to prove my belief that most mascot horror creators don't tend to do any actual research on the eras they pick as settings and base everything off of modern parodies of actual period media, which is why so much of it reads like fourth hand failed social commentary
This isn't just exclusive to mascot horror.
A lot of young artists that try to be "vintage" do this.
Either they make stuff look way older than it actually is.
Like adding a 1880s film grain on a animation and then claiming the video is "90s style"
Or like what Harry demonstrated with Bendy.
They mix and mash stuff from various decades
Like having "1920s" characters with pac-man eyes and a CalArts smile.
Neither of which were actually part of that era, the pacman eyes only came a little later in the 1930s while the 20s either had regular dot pupils or small cut lines. And the bean mouth was NEVER used in ANY of those older cartoons. (They only really became a thing in the 2000s and 2010s)
I guess the developers, animators, and character designers of all indie mascot horror games deserve to be deplatformed now.
@Fatih_M177 Maybe those artists don't deserve to be artists if they can't be period-accurate, let alone be accurate at anything ever.
@AnonymousUser-zap Ok, I get being upset about this, but that’s really cruel!
In this way, I think bendy could work in period as a sort of "morality play anti-hero", punishing the bad guy of the week for their various sins through impish cartoon antics, with Alice Angel there encourage the sinner to repent.
or as a guy who always gets his comeuppance by the end of the episode, like a Goofus type character (showing what not to do.)
Yeah, it's weird to me that he ignored the existence of Disney's "The Goddess of Spring," released in 1934 and which depicts Hades as... basically Satan, horns and goatee and all, accompanied by several horned, pitchfork-wielding imps.
Bendy the cat is not exactly working for me...
you could even use the butcher gang for that.
The Great Depression era left most people struggling, and not just financially.
Audiences weren't used to the kind of zany nonsense where, say, a mouse could turn to a hissing cat, slap it across the face, and go "NYEEEH SHADDAP!"
Audiences wouldn't have been ready for Bendy yet, not in a pre-Looney Tunes world.
Honestly, I can see Bendy (now as a cat) being Alice's pet. Bendy could be mischievous, clueless, or a troublemaker, but not outright devilish, then Alice comes in to show him what he is meant to do. In the end, Bendy knows not to do whatever he did in that set cartoon again and gets rewarded with a treat, good scratch, or kiss on the head.
he always gave cat vibes. i remember how back in the day (like 2017 lmao) people who just knew nothing about the game thought he was a cat. pretty sure my nana did, lol. god i was so obsessed with that damn game. like it consumed my life from age 10 to 12 lmaoooo. still not as long as fnaf did, that was like from age 6 to 11😭
Ooh I like this!! What about Boris though??
@Silentware3 Boris is the ((DOGOFUM))
watch the traiders for more info!
And the art is very inconsistent
they literally have the same caterpiller grins that only got popular since 2012......
@Lemon_Channel Cosmo is based on a cosmic brownie which didnt even exist until q4 1999 lol
I get me so MAD every time I think about that!! honestly I expected dandy’s world to be like the Nick jr of “mascot horror.” And then I saw one of the “lore” pictures around the map said “19##, for some reason I said “oh my good bruh” out loud.. 🥹 yes, exactly like the reaction image,,,
@cutekyuu1 he’s more based on a twinkie and not a brownie and those were from the 1930s
caller: eh, waht's up doc?
zack: ᵒʰ ᵈᵒⁿ'ᵗ ʸᵒᵘ ˢᵗᵃʳᵗ
I'm newish here and I was baffled by how creative and good that part was yet not many people mention it in the comments?
@pontikos_XD i think they're just used to it haha. but yeah, Harry Gold is super duper cool!!
Gee i wonder who that could be
I always have beef with mascot horror where the “original form” of the mascot is already horrific.
I feel like the blank eyes is what does it
You mean Smiling Critters?
@Moth_18LMAO oh yeah
This bothers me to an irrational degree lol. Don't even get me started on that smiling critters cartoon episode
Charlie and pim from poppy playtime
Finally, my autistic need for period accuracy in my mascot horrors has been fullfilled.
tumblr post energy
Im not Autistic, but sameee. My needs are fulfilled as well!
True
@Leafyc00l-3 you sure about that?
@someweirdo157 bruh
Couldn't have said it better myself
@Wawa.candy101 Mine too! As soon as I saw the reanimating bit for the cartoon, I knew this guy would go above and beyond
Idk if its an inside joke as much as he takes his art really seriously and we're so lucky!
I’m only just finding out that Dandy is from a horror game, I was seeing fanart occasionally and just assumed people were just making nostalgia fanart for the Baby’s First TV flower
I'd never heard of dandy till this video
Ngl same
I thought it was from a children’s book or smth, not a horror game
Also the mention of the Baby First flower just reminded me that channel existed
NO WAY THAT BABY’S FURST TV FLOWER
tbh i think dandys world would make much more sense if it was set in the 2010s, my biggest gripe with the game (besides the repetitive gameplay) is how the designs dont fit the time period they're supposed to be in at all
yeah like i love dandys world but you cant convince me the animators were ahead of their time, it just makes sense to it to take place in the early or mid 2010s
It would make the most sense if the og series was from the 90s, and the characters with the sorta calarts bean mouth style we play as are from a 2010s reboot
I would like to think in my headcanon that creativity was more advanced than in our timeline
@invaderneo3227 it would be pretty innovative if part of the lore was that the calart slop reboot flopped ala powerpuffgirls
@Silvergalaxy7383 This is the opposite of creativity
OMG DANDYS WORLD ISNT PERIOD ACCURATE AT ALL TY 😭😭
THATS WHAT IM SAYING ITS JUST CLAARTS BEANMOUTH BRO 😭🙏🙏 Thank God Harry Gold came to the rescue!
That's obvious
I like to think if we entered the dandy's world universe the universe is actually period accurate
OH MY GOSH THE TOONS LOOK PERFECT FOR THEIR ERA NOW!!! I really like Dandy's World but I've always kinda thought the characters looked too modern! Despite not really living around the time the Dandys World show was supposed to be airing, its pretty clear that their designs dont match that older 90s/2000s show style very well and you did a really great job making them fit it better :D
didnt expect to see ya here
Oh, hello!
Wassup muffin
hi
MUFFIN?!?
5:19 "so you can satisfy your bear-sized appetite without leaving the comfort of your own cave" I LOVE THIS SO MUCH OMGGG
i read it like in the ad or smth
Not to mention Disney's "goddess of spring" from 1934 with its depiction of hades.
9:40 insert Tex Avery wolf whistle meme here.
[Eyes pop out of sockets]
[Wolf whistle]
[Repeatedly bashes head with a wooden mallet]
I'd smash
*Car Horn Sound Effect
Call me Quagmire cuz GIGGITY GIGGITY
_AWOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!_
14:10 Okay, This is when I know Harry is just flexing his unlimited power on us.
Yeah I'm kind of shocked he didn't do the full cartoon but yeah it's pretty amazing he was able to pull this off
Fun fact about a lot of the posters/cutouts in FNAF Security Breach and Secret of The Mimic: they're all reused concept art from the game's development. It's a really clever way to avoid letting that artistic work go to waste! ... Anyway, that probably explains why a lot of them are mismatched styles and missing details - different artists, different experiments that weren't necessarily intended to be final-product decor.
My conclusions:
- Dandy's World takes place in the 80s??? I had always noted how similar the style looked to specifically the Algebraliens of Battle For Dream Island, so i just took it to take place in modern times.
- I never knew I needed a passionate rant about FNAF's poster design until now
- Perhaps the most unrealistic thing about Bendy is that Joey Drew Studios didn't go under *sooner*
- Most mascot horror creators are younger than the eras they base their content on
Dandy's World has many posters of episodes from the show and when they premiered.
I believe the earliest is late 80s and the newest is 1995
@GalaxenekNewest is Peeble's dated late 2001, the center closed in 2002 so yeah
The show takes place in the early 90's. The actual game takes place modern day after Gardenview closed.
11:21 fun fact, Betty boop was a dog in her first appearance
If that true then why they remove the dog instead of redesign her to the dog Appearance?
@BADMFA8 That would require an entire new model sheet to be made and Betty Boop had eclipsed him in popularity, so it was simpler to just drop Bimbo all together.
@BADMFA8Presumably because everybody knew her as a human.
Yesss
I want a tutorial on properly mimicking the 70's and 80's art styles!
same here!
Samee
PLEASEEEEEE
Bros good at making drawings look vintage and he knows about my favourite Roblox game
4:01 As a FNaF fan, it will eternally annoy me that the "8-bit minigames" are actually usually 16-bit!
Why are they like that?
i'd say the "8-bit" minigames sounds very 16-bit and look very 6th gen
@KubickQ They're 3D models, when you fail the Circus Baby minigame in SL her leg and foot clip through each other
@almightykellus2585 bruh even
5:34 Wow, This gotta be one of the best redesigns / renditions of a fnaf character I’ve ever seen, bravo.
it isn't that it MIGHT be real, it SHOULD.
Honestly a whole Fnaf Fan game with period accurate graphic design and architecture would go hard.
@BadringerGronger look up fnaf dreamcatchers
word, the handpainted look is awesome holy shit.
@BadringerGronger thinking of making a full series reboot exactly like that but I have 0 knowledge in blender or game development so it might take a long time.
11:13 "Better feline than bread line" 🔥🔥
Most of these horror mascots, particularly Dandy's World and the Smiling Critters, don't even look close to the era they're supposed to come from, so good on you for giving them an accurate restyling. I also found it interesting that you took the Hays code into account when redesigning Bendy.
When it comes to Five Nights At Freddy's, I know of someone who draws those characters in a 80s-90s traditional animation style reminiscent of Don Bluth.
Kosperry?
@alecfoisy58That is correct.
@maniacaldude they got kosperry to animate a character in smiling friends
@FreddyJoe1002 I know he designed a character for that show, but it might have been animated by someone else.
KOSPERRY MENTIONED (Vaguely)
Only RUclipsr who can make me excited to Watch his Sponsors.
the zocdoc sponsor is my favorite
11:33 missed a complete opportunity to say "yes, that was his name-o."
It pains me that you are absolutely correct
@TheHarryGoldShowtragedy has struck
@DWN9 I’d imagine CatNap would now be a highly sought-after collector’s item, no matter the danger.
May I say you look very good for 97 years old.
he is in fact, not 97
@GallfTHEBOYare you sure?
He literally said so, Gallf.
I'd like to think I don't look a day over 96!
@GallfTHEBOY Yes he is, what kind of person would go on the internet and tell lies?
1:35 YOOO IM ON THE BIG SCREEN!!!!
Yayyyy
Ayye
AAAAAAAÀAAHHHHHHHHH I SEE YOU EVRY WERE
YOOO
Yay
0:56 - THIS. I've been telling my friends into this stuff for ages now. It's hard to take something like Dandy's World seriously if it claims to be from the 80's but they look like background characters in Steven Universe, lol.
i don't think you've watched steven universe if you think that's what the background characters look like 💀
Frfr
The character designs are good but not accurate to the time period.
@prageruwu69 they meant stylistically, not by raw design.
genuinely. it just reeks of children who haven't lived through the time period they want to depict for their "aesthetic" purposes.
3:44 Wtf that imitation was perfect
The dandy's artsyle always irked me so got dang much, it infuriated me that it seemed like I was the only one who saw that there was no was this was a 90s or even 2000s show.
Thank you for relieving me of my grievances Harry
Feel like Dandys World characters were made to become plushies. I know that’s definitely not the case but I still have vibe, Yknow?
@GoofyGuyReal2763so where fuzzlies, care bears and cabbage patch kids... And none of them looked like adventure time or Foster's... Basic geometric shapes were only shown in sesame street
@GoofyGuyReal2763 i mean 80s and 90s characters were made to sell plushies too
As much as I love dandy’s world, this is a huge issue I wish the developers fixed😭😭 Either make the art direction of the game lean more towards the era the show takes place in, or just change the era entirely,, I do hope they eventually fix this in the future
@Personuserguy but this he means for the game, not the lore
8:36 ngl this Bendy redesign is gas 🔥
Good gas or bad gas?
@Jaydenpb Gas, with a fire/flame emoticon, usually means something good or "flaming hot".
That's what I've gathered.
@BillyBob-en3beThank you obligatory etymology reply
Now make it gassy
@gaming_werewolf101 I want to downvote so you have -1 likes, but this ain't Reddit...
10:24 they could just say that he actually isn’t a demon or anything and that when they call him a devil, they don’t mean it literally.
Some people just cant be reasoned with
I don't really think that would work dude, because 1930s censors were incredibly literal, no matter what "metaphorical" excuse any studio gave, putting horns or a pointed tail on a mascot would have been seen as an immediate religious provocation that would get the cartoon banned
Yeah no, that wouldn't stick with people at the time.
@SuperWhipBrosNobody would accept that as an excuse for making an impish character almost 100 years ago.
@krusader9508 People now a days can barely be reasoned with, reasoning with people back in the day would be basically impossible!
14:31 awesome job ❤
OKAY. THE SMILING FRIENDS ACTUALLY LOOK SO ADORABLE
Critters 😔
Yo guys, it's me, Charlie. Hey, did that guy just turn into sand?
They look adorable, and the inspiration from the Care Bears is much more noticeable, even though we weren't shown Catnap. If it already gives you the creeps with white pupils, imagine how incredibly creepy it would look with small eyes, and let's not even talk about how its experimental versions would look with those tiny eyes and enormous mouths. Catnap would be nightmare material, or even more so than it already is.
12:18 dear god he knows everything
every single popular character ever
9:25 Alice’s face is so cute.
2:40 this is so cute
Hell naw
@Caiplays247 Obviously, You've never seen a show from the 90's.
That's you, @Caiplays247. You. :P
fr :D
Makes me wish he did Toodes, Yatta, Goob or even Ginger
ive been waiting for my king to return
Correction: WE'VE been waiting for OUR king to return.
say that again?
@Reallymation All hail Harry Gold!
@Olivia-vt5db ALL HAIL HARRY GOLD
seeing dandy on the thumbnail literally made me smile
I’ve always wanted to experience all these mascot horrors in their natural habitats… looks like this will be the closest I’ll get to seeing it brought to life. Still a great job as always Harry!
2:16 i didn't realize how confusing she was LOL
It always bugged me LOL
Omg i know you!
@Pokemonboy2468 "wait, I KNOW YOU!" aaaah moment
4:40 tbf i think the freddy illustration is meant to look like the showbiz pizza animatronics. as far as i can find from a quick google search, most showbiz pizza ads were photos of the animatronics themselves, but there are a few illustrations that are kinda similar to the style used
ITS FREDBEAR NOT FREDDY!!
14:17
this is so good!!
8:15 he looks like a Sonic character
I think it’s because of the nose idk
Sonic is actually a pretty good example of someone cribbing a previous decade’s style really well.
It hurts seeing bendy with a face like that
Classic Sonic is straight up designed to resemble rubberhose cartoons more than anything
3:37 "NO!! THIS IS PATRICK!!"
I do like both the accuracy, style AND the historical context surrounding cartoons of the time used in the bendy designs. It's also interesting, as I feel Drew is a Disney-like character who refuses to evolve or change, unlike his inspiration. Expecting things to go his way bc he dreams they can.
14:54 hear me out Poppy The Bubble
Bendy was a little devil thing brought to life on the silver screen
I've been saying that bendy wouldn't fly at all back then for AGES
10:08 In Mexico things get worse with these kinds of issues, now imagine if Bendy actually existed and was distributed in that country 🙏😭🥀
Dang
As a Mexican you are absolutely right, mothers from the 90s to the 2000s categorized everything as satanic.
Bendy's ass would have gotten a riot to happen
Fr. Even in Puerto Rico which is generally one of the more liberal leaning places in Latin America and Bendy wouldn't even fly there in the 2010s.
Same thing here in brazil. I guess every 3rd or 2nd world country had this
I know an artist called "Lucky" that makes really good content and fanart of Dandy's World, most of their content replicates very good the 80-90's style and makes it period accurate,by far they're one of my favorite artists on this fandom
do they have a username for their socials? i can’t find them due to their nickname being rather generic ;~;
@squidiskoolon yt they’re -luckycat-
@gachamac137ty! i think i saw one of their videos spring up in my recommended feed before lol
14:00 bro these eyes of the accurate verison of smiling critters is making me uncomfortable-
They still look a little creepy, but now they're nostalgically cute and really do look like kids' stuffed animals.
Might be to you but when I saw this I immediately said aw
They look cuter imo and more like toys
They defacto look less terrifying with smaller eyes instead of those gigantic black eyeballs with tiny white dots.
I think it's more safe
8:24 he looks like the Jollibee mascot lmao
You freaking COOKED with the Bendy designs, man. They look so accurate!
THIS!!! LITERALLY THIS!!!
eh, i guess one could argue that the characters aren't literally supposed to be in that art style in-universe, and it's just how they look when depicted by someone who doesn't have an art style period-accyrate to the 80s. i don't necessarily believe that, but it's a possibility.
Dandy’s World being mentioned by Harry Gold was NOT on my bingo card
I don't even have a bingo card and i didn't see it coming
I had the biggest beef with the Smiling Critters in Poppy’s Playtime cuz of how unrealistic and creepy they looked despite being late 80s children’s toys
I knew Poppy’s Playtime isn’t super period accurate but the Smiling Critters were so bleak, so I’m super happy that you redid them! They look so spot on now, you did such a good job man
I f*cking love when you put characters from Modern cartoons/mascots in the different old/vintage styles!
14:33 i love the designs but especially in this scene, where they are supposed to be tired and scared, they look pretty happy with majority of them smiling.
It's because they are THE SMILING CRITTERS.
tbf scared in cartoons around that period was usually just mildly concerned
Besides, what you said about the designs. I am shock that you are not a troll bot account. Based on the profile?!?
@Chadjr2009 Well, I personally made this account based off the bots, but rather spreading negativity, I usually spread info that clear misconceptions or warn others to not reply to bots.
They just look kinda bored to me.
Some of these complaints don't even make sense like the Ink demon Looks like a monster because He has no soul he's a failed creation.
@tristanjames9367exactly,his original design looked like a failed version of bendy until chapter 5 where he became more demon like
@PersonuserguyI mean his redesign is canonical In the dark revival I mean.
This guy looks like a predator, I did NOT want Audrey on an elevator with him
9:45 her hair 😭
Forget her hair! HER FOREHEAD AND THAT COLOR IS WHATS WRONG! She’s practically bald!
Alice The Angel is based off of Betty Boop, and the latter has a way bigger and more visible forehead, so this redesign is doing a lot of covering here.
SHE IS FIIT!
I love dandys world and its has honestly always bothered me that the game never attempted to make it more time period accurate. Your designs are PEAK
Boris would actually work better in bendy's universe if bendy were a cat.
(in my opinion)
8:14, bendy having a noise is a bit off to me
It looks cool
You know someone is a pizza tower fan when they try to type nose and accidentally say noise
@Cartender15 Sorry, but i don't know shit about pizza tower I've heard of it but i haven't seen it
@Jai-c3moh sorry lol
@Cartender15 its alright
I never got the point of making a series that takes place in a decade they didn't research
I was literally saying to myself "imagine if he just reanimated the cartoon LOL, nah that'd be too much" My god, Harry.
Damn cat Alice is looking dang fine
2:34 “im not saying my designs are better than the originals.”
Well I am. These are a thousand times better.
I agree. I feel like the designs for the toons dont really fit the era of the lore (80s/90s) but rather the era when the game itself came out (2020s)
@InvThePaincatThe designs are nice, but almost makes you wish that vintage outfits actually brought out the more classic style for them rather than just making a "rubberhose vibe" by giving them the cut eyes and gray scaled colours lol.
@hallowedchromee310I agree with this a lot. They aren't bad really they are still pretty cute but yeah.
Let's threaten and force the developers until they decide to make their games period-accurate. /s
The fact that you went through the trouble of putting it on a real VHS... That's a follow from me
2:03 dear god if that’s pebble whats twisted pebble?
Everyone’s worst nightmare
I agree 14:05 The look is too modern and minimalistic. They'd probably look more like pound puppies or the get-a-long gang.
3:43 I adore the vintage commercials so much
I know
Eeeem what’s up doc?
dude, you having the bollz to criticize the security breach art...saying it is fake old....mad respect. FINALLY someone big did that.
Thanks.
@ShieldedRoseswhoa buddy
14:38 how tf does this work without headphones on 😭😭
Something I'd be really interested in you covering is the ARG "Welcome Home" by Clown/Party Coffin, the creator is really into the Muppets and Jim Henson's work in general so the designs seem pretty accurate to my understanding, but I'd be curious on your take.
I love welcome home sm
I was thinking the same thing!
12:14 "The third chapter in the Poppy Playtime series introduced the *SMILING FRIENDS-* er *SMILING CRITTERS!* "
This got me XD
Same xd
Oh shoot pim we were turned into marketable plushy’s pim!!!!
12:26 :0 NO WAY….I NEVER GUESSED :0
09:55 I didn't even know American films and cartoons were censored by something like "Hays Code" back then. I forgot not only were people easily frightened before, but also easily offended by "different" or "not-normal" topics and design choices.
I feel like we’ve almost always been like that. It’s gotten a bit less bad though since there’s things we can do now that wouldn’t have flied as easily back then.
I actually have two nitpicks with the Bendy redesign:
- Joey Drew Studios isn't based in Hollywood, but is canonically based in New York- meaning that those articles would have applied differently if at all to them. (Yet again Flischer Studios is also East Coast so I could be wrong on that)
- IIRC, Bendy having a separate head from his body was an intentional design choice by Joey Drew Studios as it would allow the head and body to be separately animated.
Rebuttal:
-I would argue that the tone of the Bendy games is so confused that Joey Drew could easily be considered a standin for Walt, given the tech and the possible usage of which could keep him alive forever.
-Felix the Cat did the removable limbs bit first, and his head was pretty attached to his body.
@daniexists6
Fair points, but bear in mind for the second bit, the separate head thing and it floating above the body is the design choice I was referring to, not it being able to be removed.
12:04 Who's telling him that canonically Boris's overalls are green
(Can't blame him tho, its technically a relatively recently revealed fact.)
Oh and that canonically Bendy cartoons just didnt go to color, it wasnt until it was cancelled and then bought by Archgate studios years later (post Joey Drew's death) when it finally went to color (forgot the year though so it depends on which year you're setting it, Just wanted to comment a few facts)
WHAT?
