Hi Oz hope your well. Now that's the way it goes sometimes. Back in Feb when you published the video I had no need of it so to speak but only last week I purchased a fuel stove and have just this moment ordered a Crusader cook set to go with it. I wanted to see it in action and the first video I come to is yours. I think you covered most areas and have even put me onto the lid. On its way. So many thanks. Exceptional review. All the best. Mark.
Good to know a vid makes a difference. If you got it from Heinnie Haynes I hope you used my discount code they allow me to use for my Subs? I still use mine all the time sometimes in the most unusual places. Cheers
***** Now then Oz what's this about a discount code? It will have to work some other time because the orders are on there way. Let us know mate and I'll follow through next time. All the best. Mark.
Another great review. Thank you for taking the time to make and share it. I have a MK1 Crusader kit and to be honest I don't think I can justify buying the MK2 although your work is appreciated. I agree with your comments regards the heavy cover I haven't looked back since I melted the plastic lid and bought one. Be safe and be lucky. Wol.
Great video Sir. I have used the old style stainless Crusader cooker (I prefer stainless for health reasons) for many years now and have recently received the new MKII cooker. I have compared the two cookers using meths and to my surprise and a little disappointment the old style cooker burns the fuel longer and boils water faster. I have also uploaded a video showing how the new MKII cooker will work as a wood burning stove with a few mods so increasing its versatility. You have a great channel and a new subscriber. Thank you for sharing. Happy wandering. Paul :)
Got to agree the Stainless is the way to go as it seems cleaner no bit coming off into the water etc. Its a really robust bit of kit which I have used and used now. Thanks for commenting.
Is it safe to use the water from cooking the boiled in the Bag for making a brew as you did? Back in the day we used tinned rations and we couldn’t use the water for brew. Thanks excellent review
Thanks for watching, I am not aware of any issues using the water after heating a boil in the bag meal, I certainty wouldn't want to waste all that hot water and heat ha-ha. I also use Civi type boil in the bags and haven't really read if they say anything about not using the water, I am possible to long in the tooth not to waste/use the water. I too used to heat tins (24hr Rat pack type) in boiling hot water then eat the food and make a brew with the water, we never had time or spare water to waste but I do get your point what might the tins leached into the water after boiling !!!!! I have lasted this long, but I suppose that's why they come double wrapped to keep as much crud off the inner bag as possible before dropping into the boiling water. Thanks for the comment. Cheers.
nice one oz, the new crusaders look much more gucci than the older ones, but my old ones have never let me down so i'll stay with them till they break (unlikely) or i get a mk2 set as a gift (even more unlikely) haha good review though buddy, cheers, dave
Enjoyed your video, I agree this is a good bit of kit but cant seem to find the stainless lid anywhere, if you could point me in the direction I would be very thankful.
Hello, I have been looking all over the place and even asked a few people i know but it seems they are not about anymore. I shall keep my eye open for you possible the Bushcraft show or the wilderness gathering may have some stalls if you happen to be going. Strange they don't make it anymore. sorry !!
Nice video oz mate great cook set the lids are great I picked one up last year off ebay best buy ever cuts the boil time right down take care mate atb Chris
Greetings! Is the base made of steel, or it’s also Aluminium? Thinking about this kit, but it is important for me to be able to burn wood without destroying it. Thanks
Thank you very much for this comprehensive and articulate review. Just ordered one to try for a future expedition. Thank you very much! Warm regards. DisabledPrepper. p.s. subscribed. :)
Welcome aboard. Still use the stove and cup loads slightly out of shape due to me sitting on the bag it was in !! thank you for the praise also. cheers
I just looked and cant find the lid anymore !! Just those plastic types. I would possible buy the Pathfinder set now. www.heinnie.com/pathfinder-campfire-survival-cooking-kit
I still have my 48 Pattern Metal mug, issued back in 82, that also fits over the top of my 58 pattern water bottle, which if you removed the black mug you would have 2 containers for cooking, & fits on the cooker.
Good review bud, was looking at them at a country show last summer, does it take a Trangia ? be a better buy iff it did, multi fuel, and everything squared away at the end, nice 1, atb, Paul.
***** If you ever watch Hiram Cook`s video`s he says the sweet spot for a Trangia is the top of the burner 1 inch below the pot, so a happy coincidence or deliberate design? either way a good set up, how much does it all weigh?
Thanks for the video; just what I was looking for. Two questions: will a Trangia meth's burner fit in the bottom of the stove with enough clearance to fit the cup on top, and where did you purchase your heavy lid for the cup? Regards from Bristol, UK.
the kit's HUGE. one of the cups is PLASTIC. the cup DOESN'T NEST all the way down into the bottom of the stove. it's NOT STAINLESS. what do you really get that's new other than a larger cooking cup? the kit is too damned BIG over-all (not worth buying when you've already got other kits).

Fantastic review Oz, thanks for sharing mate, ATB Shaun
looks like a very nice peace of kit. pretty compact for all you get. do you put the lid at the bottom? thanks for sharing all the best John
Thanks, I'm wondering if the company has gone bust!
Instead of using a fuel, would say it is possible just to light a small traditional wood fire inside the BCB and cook over it ?
thanks for answer
Great kit, liked your stove self.
