I've heard about the Rule of the Octave and Partimento but the only information is for people that are already musicians. I'm just starting out and found this to be excellent. Hopefully with a lot of study and practice, I can get up to the level of a 3 year old Italian!!!

I can only sing. Are those partimento exercises also good for singers? Even as a singer should I learn an instrument that I enjoy to help with musical development and knowledge as well?

Yes. You should be able to play the accompaniment. In music conservatory, they make string, woodwinds, singers, etc. learn keyboard and keyboard theory (but only to an extent).

Thank you! I have two questions: 1) at 11:30 you harmonize D major chord inversion (6) by the rules of ocatves playing dominant 7th chord inversion. But don't you think that in this particular partimento the figures were intended to be interpreted more strictly because we can see both 6 and 6 5 in the same piece, even in the same bar. So probably it would make sense to play them differently? 2) The figure 8 - would not it meant in this case that octave is suggested in melodic voice?
Thank you very much for you job

Hello! I'm really happy of your content! I reply you as complete as possible ☺️ 1) in the music theory of this period is not correct think at the inversions of the chord. For that, the 6#/4/2 chord on A is not the 2nd inversion of the 7th chord on D. This is the difference between the practical harmony (of the composers) and the the theoretical harmony (as Rameau talks about harmony in his treatise). Then, we can harmonize a partimento in a big number of different ways! we can also change numbers! our goal in realizing a partimento is composing a new piece! So there are different levels ol realizations. 2) the number 8 could be a suggestion written by fenaroli of what you say, but, playing 8, 6, 5 on G, B and C, I find the melody G G G not so much interesting!
Do you find partimento and harmony really interesting?

Hi Richardus, I have decided I'm going to support your channel. Your Handel series is simply glorious. However, I have one question. I don't see a course here for grasping figured bass. Surely you have one, right? I'm ok with figured bass in general, but the way you are writing suspensions is like '4' whereas I am only familiar with something written like '4-3'. Do you have a few courses already made where you explain absolutely the way you figure the bass? Thanks, Sean Reilly from Ireland.

When you substitute a 5 3 chord for a 6 5 because of the rule of the octave, was that always expected or one could choose to remain on a 5 3 chord?

Whats the difference to put 5 or 8 or enven nothing if the result is anyway 3-5 chord?

A very nice video, but one thing I don't understand. Why don't you put some nice music in the background? A simple, improvised arpeggio figuration prelude would be nice. Something that fits the theme of the video, instead of that generic elevator music that has nothing to do with early music theory. Silence would also be okay.

Thank you for your comment. I have been thinking that thing for a long time.... The fact is that in my opinion, the harpsichord is not a good instrument as a background music. The reason its sound is pungent and it can clash with the voice.
A solution can be an organ piece. the sound is fluent and soft. Next days i gonna recorder a piece on organ to use as background music! Thank you so much for your observation! :-) I appreciate it!
      At your service!
      Bye!
