"There are too many people" means the same as " it's too busy , crowed, packed, etc..." in most contexts. They are basically interchangeably. I don't see any problem saying " too many people "
But my Australian friend cautioned me be careful when I said “there are too many Asians in Australia ”, cuz it sounds like I am complaining about it, which is racist.

Agreed. "Too many..." has more negative connotation. "So many..." is 'relatively' less negative.

其实中文的“这里人好多啊”也会根据不同的场景产生不同的涵义。比方说，可以是觉得这里人好多不适合谈话，或者是感叹这个场景人好多、很热闹，再或者觉得当下的场景人太多、太吵了。根据这些场景，翻译成英文都会有点区别。所以凡事也不能太绝对...还是很感谢Maggie分享一些American English地道的表达习惯，点赞！

觉得Maggie 讲得挺好的。我来美30年了，也在美国大公司工作了20多年，看Maggie的视频还是很有收获，因为作为一个英语非母语的人，难免讲英语时会受母语影响。我不觉得Maggie的题目在哗众取宠，反而觉得她能把中国人说英语时受本国语言习惯影响的地方指出来这一点非常好。
