    One reason I can my dry beans is because it takes so much water to soak and cook. Water is going to be a major issue if the SHTF situation. Having beans already cooked will be a valuable asset

    I don't have a lot of storage space in my home. I got plant hooks and dollar tree baskets with the handle. I hung the hooks from my pantry ceiling. I have my Sternos in one, my fire starters in another, my OTC medicine in one and so on. I was thinking of putting up a sheet you would never see them unless u know there there. One of my Tomato plants fell over n I am going to let it stay over. It is in a 3 gallon tub. In My bedroom I have 27 tomato plants all 2 plus feet tall.. In the wild they grow as a vine on the ground. I need to stake all of them. Have cucumbers one n beans. Ya all in the house. Very excited over them growing inside. I started in Jan with a couple small grow lights n now the plants are in my south facing windows. And growing fruit. Don't tell me you can't grow food. I live in Wisconsin 😄😊. Plant those seeds now if you haven't. RIGHT NOW, talk to them, water them and turn them. Give them attention and they will greatly reward you. Expect some failures but also more rewards in food. Blessings. Thanks Jinni

    On my 'must have' list is also white vinegar. You can use it to pickle for food storage, plus clean and disinfect with it.

      Another little known use for vinegar is something my grandmother taught me and I am in my 60's now so its old school. If you have a pulled muscle or even just sore muscles, wet a rag with vinegar and place it on the injured area, it loosens the knots in the muscles and reduces the inflamation in the area it can be used several times a day to reduce the pain in the muscles and makes it heal several times faster than just waiting it out. (dont use around broken skin areas) it can be used on all ages but with young children you should supervise that they dont touch the rag and then rub their eyes or nose..

    Great ideas! I keep extra packages of inexpensive shower curtain liners on hand for all kinds of emergencies but the contractor plastic bags are a very good idea to add to my supplies. Good evening and lots of love from Ohio. Duct tape!! I'm a duct tape hoarder lol. With salt, I start with sterile jars and put an oxygen absorber in and it seals itself. We hit harbor freight every month and always grab at least 1( usually more) tarps, package of zip ties and gloves. You can get a 6 pk of work gloves dirt cheap. Ohhh. I hit dollar tree Monday morning, apparently that's when ours stocks, and grabbed 32 boxes of hungry jack hash browns! First time I've ever found more that 3 or 4. Big score, easy meal makers too. Have a great night and God bless.

      Yes, I read those books and now I am constantly thinking of what I would have to live without should we get hit with an EMP, and how I could survive. Becoming more Prepper minded. Anytime we leave the house on a trip, my mind is always thinking, “this would be a long way to walk to get back home. What would I need to make it?” As a result, I have started filling a “Get Home Bag” and making one for each of my girls and granddaughter, which will be their Christmas gift this year. They may think I am crazy, but my motto is: “Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it!” Thanks for your insightful lists, Jinnie! I appreciate you!❤

    For a long-term disaster -- one lasting several years or even a decade or two -- you will want an assortment of basic hand tools and supplies to perform routine home maintenance and essential home repairs. You will also want the supplies and tools to set up a rainwater collection system and to start or expand your food growing. Such items include an extension ladder you so can clear your gutters, a couple of hammers, masonry trowels and sledgehammers; an assortment of screw drivers and chisels; nails, bolts, screws and washers; some carpenter's handsaws and hand drills with an assortment of bits; different types of caulking, varnishes and paints; spare lumber and sheets of exterior grade plywood to board up broken windows or secure a patio door set; some concrete blocks and bricks, bags of mortar mix, sand and concrete mix; spare rolls of roofing felt and extra roofing shingles. For gardening you will want an orchard ladder for harvesting fruit, pruning saws, hoes, gardening rakes, spades, shovels, irrigation supplies, metal fence posts, rolls of chicken wire and sturdier wire mesh livestock fencing, rolls of barbed wire and bird netting. You may want enough materials to construct a chicken coop and some rabbit hutches.
    With the right set of non-electric tools, some basic building supplies, some blueprints for basic garden sheds and animal shelters, some reference books on basic home repairs, carpentry and vegetable gardening and eventual mastery of the right skill sets, you can grow much of your food and keep your residence in good repair. You can also barter your repair skills, your landscape maintenance skills (such a fruit tree pruning) and some of your excess garden produce. You will also want to teach these survival skills to your children.

      Just imagine that nothing with any type of battery, electric etc. will not work at all. No fuel at stations can be pumped. For a generator or whatever. No water, no cars, no internet no lights, no freezer or fridge, no washing machine and so on. Picture yourself living before there was electricity. If they didn’t have it, then after an Emp, we won’t have it. I read Faraday box or metal trash can lined in cardboard can save things but you’d need extra to store there. Maybe store solar powered things in there? Having the money to prepare in these times is hard though:(

    • @leecopeland2061
      @leecopeland2061 Год назад +5

      I guess I'm really dumb, but I didn't know in an EMP you had to have your phones and electronics in metal trash cans or containers. I just thought you won't have electricity so you can't charge them.
      And you won't be able to use battery run things too?

    • @jillk4269
      @jillk4269 Год назад +6

    I just wanted to share a tip with everyone. Instead of spending money on expensive water proof matches. You can make your own.
    Grab a cheap block of floral foam, to stick the matches in..then you just grab a cheap bottle of nail polish..just paint a thin coat over the end you strike. Don’t go crazy and paint them like Tammy Faye’s nails. Just a light coating. Stick them in the floral foam to dry. If you feel the need for a second thin coat, once they dry, go ahead and put it on. I store mine in old prescription bottles.

We've had storms that take out the power for 12 to 14 days at a time, in the past. We've been lucky to get snow deep enough to put out camp coolers and containers out in the snow ... snow is the best, and not the ice storms. We always fill our big tub with water if a storm is predicted. And we save milk jugs, juice jugs, and fill with water, to have on hand for doing dishes and cleaning.

    We always have matches on hand and keep them in jars with lids to keep them dry. Having manual tools like can openers is very important, include openers that open other things like cartons, packages and bottles as well as for cans. There are battery operated can openers available too. If the electricity goes out and there is no internet access, having printed manuals, books, guides and such is essential. Review what information you would need such as cooking, canning, home repairs and crafts. We keep glues, tapes and so forth organized in small shoe boxes and be sure to include some scissors in the box for easy access to be able to cut the pieces. It's a good idea now while you can get some things to look at what you use everyday that uses electricity and to try to get a manual or battery operated substitute. Having a battery operated radio and solar chargers for cell phones for example would also be helpful.
